The story takes place directly after Sonic Generations. After Classic Sonic jumps into the void to go back to his own time, the Eggmans see a void portal, but not able to fit through it, however they see Sonic traveling in the void, and fire their laser guns into the portal creating a void distortion. The Void becomes highly aggravated and sends Sonic back to his time, but to an alternate universe. Sonic must collect all Chaos Emeralds to restore that time and travel to his next era...
