Pacman Namco Review MechaMento
Pac-Man (Namco) - NESI am not sure there is anyone on Vizzed.com who does not know what Pac-Man is. The arcade classic still is very popular today even if it is a 31 one year old game. This game was ported multiple times with the same map, same characters just different consoles and in some cases graphics. Today I am going to be look at the NES port of the Namco masterpiece. I will point out now that I am comparing the game to other games on the NES so do not be surprised if some of the game ratings are lower than you expected. I hope you enjoy reading on...
Graphics 6/10As we all should know the NES had a 8-bit processor, so graphics and more importantly file size was limited. The games were relatively simple, not quite as so as the likes of the Atari but yet the video game industry was far off HD quality graphics and gameplay. PacMan was a very simple arcade game. The sprites were single coloured apart from the fruit and the dreaded enemies of the game, the ghosts. Making a compatible port for the NES was a piece of cake, everything was put into the game without any obvious change. Unfortunately that is where I think Namco and Nintendo went wrong. The NES was far beyond the power of the original arcade machine so there was certainly room for an upgrade. Just take a look at the beauties of Super Mario Bros 3 and Mega Man 2, those games had perfected the graphics of the NES and could be mistaken for not being playable on an 8-bit console. Comparing that to the basic single colours of PacMan and we begin to feel a little disappointed that nothing was enhanced.
Sound 7/10Again we can compare the games sound to other game on the NES but for me it is not about the quality or the music on this game. Not because this game has no music and limited sound effects but it is really how it makes you feel. Games have Iconic soundtracks or sound effects, such as the 1-up (1-man) sound effect in the Super Mario Bros series or the theme of the first level in DOOM. When you hear that certain sound or song you can instantly ressemble it to the game. The same applies for PacMan, when you hear that iconic "wah woh wah woh wah woh" sound that Pacman makes when he eats all of those yellow biscuit looking things or even before that when you start the game you just know that person is playing Pacman. There are many children, adults and teenagers which will all know that sound. 31 one years on from it's original arcade release people still recognize the game.
Gameplay 10/10Who'd of thought a game so simple like pacman could come to be this addictive. The game just plays exactly how you want it to, I really can not complain about anything about the games gameplay. I tried going into nitpicking mode but I could not even find anything to complain about so this section of my review is going to be really positive.
Most games strive for the movement experience to be perfect since in most games it is one of the starch requirements of a good quality game. Travelling in Pacman is an enjoyable easy. You do not travel in Pacman the game lets Pacman do all of the work, though your job is to direct his path because Pacman is just going to walk forwards forever if you don't stopping.
There is also a certain fast feel you get from the game which you rarely see in modern games. Pacman just feels very fast pace, all of the action is happening now and you just can not stop it from coming. It may not as fast as sonic the hedgehog games because they are fast in a literal way, this just makes you feel fast and you need quick reactions to play it. It sort of reminds me of the original DOOM game. DOOM is quite easily the fastests First Person Shooter ever made and it is because of the same feel you get from Pacman even if they are very diverse.
Difficulty wise this game increases in it and can increase fast for the newbs to this game. Not long ago when I first started to really get into this game, I could only manage to reach level 4 out of the endless many. Now having come back and back to this game I have exceeded to level 9. In modern games level 9 sounds really bad but lets face it there is not much challenge in Pokemon and Super Mario 3D Land. Each level you progress the AI of the ghosts will be harder to compete against. The ghosts get fast and faster leaving you to be in the hands to make the correct decisions. Also the time in which you can eat your foes decreases each level as well making your life as Pacman even more tough to endure.
OverallI can really see this game continuing to be famous, I am not sure the people of 5 generations after me will not know of this game. Not necessarily this port but the PacMan concept in general. The graphics and sound may be rather shocking negatively especially for this console but that is easily overruled by the stunning gameplay. There are not many games around that I have enjoyed as much as Pacman and the same does apply to many true retro gaming fans. I hope this game lives on after my death bed because it certainly deserve the right to.
Thank you for reading my review. If you enjoyed it please remember you can rate it. Also if you want to give me feedback or future games that I should review then please feel free to, they both help me out a lot and I do appreciated it. Have a nice Day!!! :D

Port review: Pac-Man(NES) toadnick
Today, I'm taking a look at Pac-Man on the NES. This game had 3 releases in the US: Official Tengen release, unofficial Tengen release, and Namco release. All of them are based off Namco's 1984 Famicom port, and they're all the same, bar the copyright information on the title screen.
This port screams NES. The colors, the sounds, everything. It's faithful to the arcade version rather nicely- if you've played Pac-Man, you probably know that it's about a yellow circle named Pac-Man. Pac-Man has to eat dots and avoid ghosts. If Pac-Man eats all the dots on a maze board, he gets to go to the next level(tip- all the mazes are the same). However, each maze has four Power Pellets. If Pac-Man eats one of these, the ghosts, Blinky, Pinky, Inky, and Clyde, turn dark blue and can be eaten by Pac-Man. But beware! It's only a small amount of time before the tables turn back.
Now, on to port differences. Along with the sounds sounding very... NESish, there's something odd about the graphics. Can you guess what they are? I don't know, maybe it's that THE CHARACTER'S BODIES DEFY THE LAWS OF MAZE WALLS. Seriously, Pac-Man and the ghosts stick through the maze, and it looks weird, but it's not really that distracting, but it looks a little weird when you think about it. However, that obviously wasn't the goal of this port. The goal of this port was to provide a great gaming experience close to the original arcade version of Pac-Man. Did they do that?
Well, what do you think. Of course they did, and while this isn't held in regard as a nice Pac-Man port, because, let's be honest, no one has ever really bothered to look at all of them, this port is great. I give Pac-Man on the NES a 7 out of 10.

PacmanandMariofan's Review of Pac-Man for the NES! Pacman+Mariofan
Hello! This is my review of Pac-Man for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES). I've been playing this game for 6 years and I still love playing it.
Graphics: 8
The graphics are really impressive, especially for a game released in 1993. I find the graphics in this version of Pac-Man to be even better than the original arcade version. The pellets are now yellow just like Pac-Man and everything is shaded darker and it looks a lot nicer that way in my opinion. That truly is all I can say about the graphics.
Sound: 8
The sound may be a little weird compared to the original, but it's an NES game and all consoles aren't built to sound exactly the same. I prefer the sound in this version over the arcade version as well as the graphics. The sound effects may seem completely different, but they are still sound just like the regular Pac-Man sounds. The only music in this game is in the intermissions between certain levels. During the actual game, all you hear is this weird sound in the background which is basically just one note repeating itself over and over and it gets faster as you progress throughout the level. You'd think it'd be really annoying for everyone, but no! No one seems to mind that weird sound, which is awesome!
Addictiveness: 8
Even though it's just the same maze over and over and the game practically never ends (I don't even know if it does end!), you'll be surprised with how addicting this game can be. Eating pellets and avoiding ghosts seems to be really fun for most people who try it. The other reasons this game is so addicting are because you have to try to get a high score (which is pretty easy for most of us) and to see how far you can get in the game before you lose all of your extra lives. That can become addicting really fast.
Story: BLANK
There is no story. You just have to eat all of the pellets in a maze and avoid contact with the ghosts for fun (and a high score)..
Depth: 8
There may be no real point to this game besides seeing how far you can get or how high your high score can be, but this game does have a lot to do. There are way too many levels (the game could be endless, but I will never know unless I use savestates and/or cheat codes!), there are 4 ghosts to avoid and 4 ghost-eater pellets you can use to eat the ghosts and keep them away from you for a few seconds, and a preset high score of 10000 that you can try to beat!
Difficulty: 7
This game isn't too hard if you develop a good strategy or pattern to use in each maze or if you know what each ghost's secret is.
Overall: 9
This game has a lot to do and it can be a lot of fun for almost everyone who tries it! I suggest you try this game if you haven't already and if you want a good challenge, this game is just right for you! I hope you enjoyed this review!
