Mega Man II Review   uiopop
This game has been considered by some to be the worst classic Mega Man game. But is it really THAT bad?
Graphics: The graphics are mostly recycled sprites from Mega man 2&3, adapted for the game boys screen size and monochrome graphics. The new sprites (like the one for quint) are pretty well done, but not as good as other Mega Man game boy games.
Sound: The first time you hear the music, it sounds like absolute torture. However, if you listen closely you'll discover that the music is actually pretty good; it's just buried by horrible sound quality. Defiantly doesn't deserve all of the hate it gets.
Addictive: The game is severely lacking in replay ability. Although we have jumped from 24 to 576 ways to play through from the previous game, there is nothing else that would keep you playing for a long time.
Story: Similar to the previous game, Dr. Wily is causing mayhem and has created another Mega Man killer- Quint (who is apparently Mega Man from the future). The only other thing worth noting is the terrible ending, which i won't spoil.
Depth: The stages tend to be pretty short and boring, and there are only 9 of them, so i can only give this a 1.
Difficulty: The game is laughably easy, even in comparison to other very easy Mega Man games. E-tanks, power-ups, and 1-ups are all too common in the already very easy stages.
Overall: Mega Man II for Game Boy is certainly not a great game. But i won't rate as low as others do simply because it actually has some merits.

Mega Man 2 (Gameboy) Does it live up to the NES Games?   Billybo10000
Hi there, I'm here to review the game that started my adventure into the Mega Man Franchise, almost six years ago. This game is, of course, Mega Man 2 for the Gameboy. Now, for some quick back story for the game. It was made and released by Capcom for the Gameboy and featured a very different experience for the average Mega Man player. Bosses were taken from the NES games and brought to Gameboy for a whole new generation to enjoy, and I was one of those lucky people to be blessed with the gift of Mega Man.
This game holds a lot of nostalgia points in my book, being one of the first Mega Man Games I ever played, and being the first Mega Man game I completed. I was a big fan of the Gameboy Mega Man Games, and as such, I never really knew about the NES versions, except for the original.
So when I saw the graphics for the first time on this game, I was blown away by how detailed the environment was. The areas were tricky, but in a good way, and the addition of new enemies, different obstacles, and the same lovable Robot Masters, made me excited. Now, for a game that came from a system with a tiny screen, it managed to fit in more than it's fair share of Mega Man goodness, and you seemed to know exactly where you were, and when.
The black and white shading really helps to highlight the more important details, and you can easily understand what is what in the games, which is something to be commended, considering it was from the Gameboy. I loved the graphics, and I am a sucker for black and white shading, so the graphics got a 9/10 in my book. There were times were it could have been a little more tweaked, but overall, amazing graphics.
The sound is more of a controversial topic for me. The thing is, most of the soundtrack is amazing, including remixed themes, and new themes for the stages, and the stage select for the final four Robot Masters was a gem that is never recognized in today's society. But I had problems with the selection screen for the first four Robot Masters.
The music in the first selection screen is quite choppy, and very out of place. It seems like something that should have been in Metal Man's soundtrack, but not the menu select. It was an ear sore, but even so, the music was still well done in most places, and gets a 7/10 for it's efforts. Well done Capcom!
Is Mega Man Addictive? Well, yes and no. You see, Mega Man, as one game, is not very addictive. You may feel compelled to keep killing the Robot Masters, but once you finish the game, you would be at a loss. And that is why it is a franchise. The Mega Man franchise has so many games to it, that after you finish one, you play the next, and the next, and the next.
And since every game brings something unique to the table, you will never truly get bored, and the addiction factor is always high, which is why Addictiveness gets a 10/10!
The story of this game... In truth, there is none. You beat the Robots and Wily. But, at least in the NES Games, there were openings that revealed the story. In this game, there just wasn't such a thing. And thus, this game gets a one for story. For newbies to the Franchise, this game would not explain the story in anyway. 1/10
The depth of the game is the same as every Mega Man Game. Short, but sweet, and sweet it is, containing 8 Robot Masters, plus Quint, a Mega Man Killer, although that is not mentioned, and the boss battle with Quint is super easy. And the usual Wily Stages. It isn't too long, but long enough to keep you playing for more. I would give it a 3/10, mainly because it isn't that big, or expansive, but it does offer some replay chances.
And lastly, the difficulty of this game. Depending on the Robot Master, this game will prove easier, or harder. It all depends on the player's choices, and while you are free to pick whichever Robot Master you will, they each require different sets of skills to defeat. The stages are also paced rather well, getting progressively harder, although the Final Stage was rather easy in comparison to some other levels. Ultimately, it is the perfect balance between Easy and Hard difficulty, and so it gets a 5/10, the perfect score.
Overall, this game has what a normal Mega Man game has, just in black and white, with a smaller screen, and on a handheld. Is it worth the playthrough? Yes it is, and it is a great way to introduce beginners to the franchise. Personally, I can complete it in under 40 mins, with no distractions.
But lastly, and this is the most important point. My title question. Did MM2 (GB) live up to the NES Mega Man series? While both of the games have their own elements, I feel that the Gameboy games were a great addition to the Mega Man Franchise, and they easily live up to their NES counterparts... Most of the time. I feel the NES does produce better sound, but we all think that.
But ultimately, this gives Mega Man 2 for the Gameboy, a 9.5 out of 10! Thank you for this amazing game, Capcom.

An Awful Mega Man Game   tornadocam
The Mega Man franchise has put out a lot of great games as well as series. Mega Man is considered one of the more popular video game characters of all time. Most of the Mega Man games have been popular. However, Capcom did make a very bad Mega Man game.
Mega Man II for Game Boy is one of the worst Mega Man games out there. So, in this review I am going to be reviewing and critiquing this awful game.
Story: 3
Here is how the story goes for Mega Man II. Dr Wily, steals a time machine and decides to go to the future. While, traveling into the future Dr. Wily captures Mega Man. He goes back to the present and reprograms the future Mega Man. The Mega Man that Dr. Wily Captures becomes Quint and he rides a Pogo stick. Meanwhile, Dr. Wily has also brought back 8 robot masters. Mega Man sets out to recapture the time Machine and stop Dr. Wily.
This by far is the worst Mega Man plot ever. Seriously, the evil scientists Dr. Wily is trying to use a time machine for world domination. Other Mega Man games have had Dr. Wily doing crazy and creative stuff  for world domination. Examples, include, sending robot armies, disguising himself as a rich tycoon, using evil energy, creating viruses, reprogramming robots, and sending an alien force of robots to attack the Earth. I do not know what Capcom was thinking by creating a story like this. Another thing is why did Wily capture Mega Man in the future and bring him back as Quint. Quint rides a Pogo Stick of all things. I just find that pathetic on Capcom's part. I would expect Dr. Wily to capture a future Mega Man and reprogram and turn him into a hard robot master to match Mega Man. Also were is the creativity in this plot. Mega Man II's plot had no creativity to it. The plot is so pathetic and to be honest it is very dull. I give the plot to Mega Man II a 3 out of 10. Yes, folks it is that bad.
Graphics and Controls : 3
The graphics in this game are pretty much like the plot to this game, awful. The only thing that keeps this from getting a lower rating is how the stars sparkle in the background. The stars sparking in the space backgrounds was a nice touch. Sadly, it is the only good thing about the graphics in this game. The graphics in this game are very bad. First of all, the sprints are out of whack badly. Rush in this game looks like is half the size of Mega Man. In other Mega Man games Mega Man is a  lot taller than Rush. Another thing is Dr. Wily looks smaller than Mega Man in this game. If anybody has played other Mega Man games they know that Wily is taller than Mega Man. In fact, Mega Man in this game is the same height as the Wily Machine in this game. Second, this game lags a lot. When entering a boss gate, the screen scrolls behind and then it will scroll forward. I find that to be very annoying. Also it seems like there are several lags in the robot master stages as well.
The controls in this game are horrible. Mega Man feels so stiff and sluggish through the entire game. At first, I thought it might be the emulator. So, I put my actual copy of the game into my Game Boy just to see if it was the emulator. Guess what, it is not the emulator at all the controls are that bad. I found that I felt like the controls were wanting to lock up. I hate games were you feel like you have to  hit the button twice to get the character to move. I also hate very stiff controls. I never thought Capcom would make a Mega Man game with bad graphics and controls. But, they did when they made Mega Man II for Game Boy. At the end of the day I give the graphics and controls a 3 out of 10, and that is being nice.
Sound: 2
Oh my gosh the sound in this game was horrible. I expected the robot masters to have similar themes to their Nintendo counterparts. After all III and IV for Game Boy had the same tunes as the Nintendo games. I was shocked when not one Robot Master had a similar tune to its Nintendo counterpart. The tunes in this game were very bad. I can't even think of one tune that I liked in this game, which is surprising. Mega Man games are often known for their rocking music so I do not know why Capcom came up with something like this? The Robot master weapons sound awful they do not make any sounds what so ever. Even the enemies sounds in this game sound horrible. Other Mega Man games had very good sounds that let the players know their weapons were doing damage. This game not so much even the buster does not have a good sound to it. Now for my biggest rant concerning the sounds to this game. There is lots of tingling in this game. Yes folks ever theme and sound in this game there is a tingle. Just how bad is the tingling? Well for starters it makes you want to mute the game or even turn off the game. Yeah it is that bad. When I first played this game I wanted to put ear plugs in my ear. So, there is nothing good about the sound in this game. I give the sound in Mega Man II a 2 out of 10.
Addictiveness: 1
How Likely am I to play this game again? I won't play this game again. This is a horrible game. The graphics are bad, controls are bad, and the sound is awful. This game does not have any depth to it what so ever. I played and brought this game mainly because I wanted the Game Boy series to be complete. I have only played this game twice. I have no plans on playing it again. Players who play this game will find out what I am talking about. It does not get much worse than this folks.
Depth: 3
The depth in this game was horrible. The only thing that keeps this from getting a 1 or a 2 is the robot master weapons. Yes, you have weapons to collect but that is about it. Unlike, other Mega Man games there are no items to collect, nor can you purchase items. Also the stages are very short in this game. Even Dr. Wily's fortress only has two stages. Compared to other Mega Man games this is a disappointment. Other quality Mega Man games had a lot going on in them. There were items to collect as well as purchased, long stages, and usually the player would have to go through  at least 4 Wily stages to reach Dr. Wily. Mega Man II did not have that quality feel to it. I do not know why Capcom did not put depth into this game like they did other Mega Man games. I like games that have depth to them. So, I give the depth in this game a 3 out of 10 and that is being generous.
Difficulty: 2
Mega Man games are known for their difficulty. In fact, some of the best Mega Man games really shined on difficulty. The players had to work and earn the items. The other quality Mega Man games that were difficult made beating them worth a celebration. Mega Man II on the other hand not so much. This game is not challenging at all. The robot masters can be taken down easy without there weaknesses. The stages are not challenging either. Even Dr. Wily is easy in this game. When I first saw Wood Man in this game, my first thought would be this is going to be a hard game. Wood Man in Mega Man 2 for Nintendo was hard to beat. Wood Man in this game is so easy. To be honest that made me mad because I like games that offer a challenge. I like to be challenged. In addition, Wood Man was my favorite boss from Mega Man II. To see him toned down in this game was a disgrace. To top things off, the spike placement in this game was not good. Other Mega Man games had several death traps in them, but this game not so much. Yeah, there are death spikes but they are not numerous in this game. The enemy placement was lacking in this game. They are enemies in this game but other quality Mega Man games just buried the player with enemies. This game did not have anything thing challenging in it. So, I give the difficulty in this game a 2 out of 10.
Overall: 2.9
Warning more rants about this game are coming. I do not know what Capcom was thinking when they made this game. I was in shock that Capcom could make a Mega Man game this bad. I feel like Capcom did not put any effort into this game. The graphics, sound, depth and difficulty are horrible in this game. Not to mention the story is even horrible too. The whole idea of Dr. Wily using a time machine is ridiculous. Then they have Dr. Wily capture a future Mega Man game only for him to be reprogrammed into a robot that rides a Pogo stick. If Capcom really wanted to have Dr. Wily use a time machine the plot should have been something like this. Dr. Wily steals a time machine, goes into the future and captures Mega Man. Dr. Wily turns the captured future Mega Man into a very tough fighting robot. Mega Man must destroy this clone of himself, capture the time machine, and bring Dr. Wily to justice. That would have been creative. I do not understand what we got and why we got what we did concerning this game? Also, I never thought I would see or play a Mega Man game that just made you want to stop playing after a few stages. This is what this game does it makes you want to turn off the game and play another Mega Man game. I am glad this game did not ruin the Mega Man Game Boy series. Thankfully Capcom made III, IV and V for Game Boy, which those 3 games turned out to be huge hits for the Game Boy.
I never thought I would say this about a Mega Man game, but I hate this game. I do not plan on playing it again and I do not want to. This game has not creativity, nothing challenging, a horrible sound system and as I mentioned a terrible plot. Mega Man players only get this game if you want the complete collection. Do not bother to play this game  it will just be a waste of your time. Players will probably turn the game off instead of playing it through. I do not recommend this game. Save yourself some time and play III, IV or V those three games are really good games for the Game Boy System. I give II a 2.9 yes its that bad.

Just awful....   Boxia
Mega Man was one of the most popular game series of its time. It amassed a large, devoted fan base, attracted to the series gameplay. Then rolled along the Game Boy, a handheld console that was the first popular one of its kind (not counting the much less popular Game and Watch). Every successful game series had an installment on the Game Boy, and Mega Man proved to be no exception. Mega Man: Dr. wily revenge was released in 1991 at the request of countless fans. The game was decent, but fans soon wanted more Game Boy Mega Man flavour, and they needed it fast. So this game was released just six months after the first GB MM game. Fans clamored for a copy of this game........ Only to realize just how horrible it was. Let's take a look at what many consider to be the worst game in the classic Mega Man series!
Story: 1/10
Well, there's not a single bit of the story explained in game. To gather the plot together, you have to tape together excerpts from magazines, ads, and the instruction manual, which explains different parts of the story depending on your region. After all of that, the story apparently goes like this. Dr. Wily stole a time machine, went into the future, and found Mega Man. Mega Man is now pretty much a house servant because he has finally brought peace into the world, and all of his weapons were removed because they have no use anymore. Wily snatches the defenseless Mega Man, brings him back to his time, and modifies him to become the super-robot Quint. He also apparently resurrects eight robot masters destroyed in MM2 and MM3, for NES, because they are sent to destroy the blue bomber as well. So once again, Mega Man must destroy Wily’s robots and stop the mad scientist once and for all....... provided the latter doesn’t escape through a back door.
I give the story a 1 out of 10. Capcom tried a bit too hard to boast Quint as a tough new foe to await your challenge after the eight robot masters. Not only that, there's something a bit wrong here. Imagine if Quint destroyed Mega Man. The problem is, since Quint is Mega Man, and suppose he did manage to kill his past self.......... TIME PARADOX.
Gameplay: 3/10
Mega Man is tasked with eliminating eight robot masters, Quint, and finally Dr. Wily. All of these lay at the end of their own stages. Initially, you only have your default weapon to rely on, the Mega buster. If you manage to defeat a robot master, however, you will get their weapon. To aid you in the stages you also have Rush coil, Rush Jet (the one from MM3), and Rush Marine, though to obtain the last two you must complete air man’s stage and wood man’s stage, respectively. You also have numerous other special items to help you out, like e-tanks, and extra lives.
I give the gameplay 3 out of 10. My problem here is not so much the lack of innovation as it is that the gameplay actually feels dumbed down from games preceding it. You can only go up against 4 robot masters first, and then the other four. Thankfully, blowing up enemies is still fun...... if the game lets you hit them.
Graphics: 5/10
Someone playing this game for the first time would be surprised by the amount of detail that went into most of the sprites and backgrounds....... until they realized that all of these textures were just carried over from MM2 and MM3. No changes made. Now for the negative stuff. The backgrounds that weren’t carried over from an NES mega man game look absolutely dreadful. An example is the background of the final stage. Dali-styled melting clocks against a white backdrop. Not only is it bland, it makes absolutely no sense. Another major problem is the issue of sprite sizing. Some sprites look absolutely massive, even when they should be fairly small. A perfect example is Rush, who in the weapon screen, is half the size the Blue Bomber is. What the heck? Mega Man isn't that short and Rush isn't that tall!
I give the graphics 5 out of 10. I would dock points because all of the good textures are brought from the NES games, but they're the only things that keep the game from making you want to tear your eyes out!
Sound: 1/10
OK, this is a soundtrack that's sure to make you want to tear your eardrums out. Instead of carrying over the music from MM2, the developers decided to create a whole new soundtrack. Ambitious, but when you only have six months to do the job, something's bound to go wrong. Case in point, the music is impossibly high-pitched, and the audio quality can be surpassed in quality by a recording made in the 20s. The music doesn’t match the stages, either. We have a depressing tune for wood man’s stage and a serial killers anthem for magnet man’s stage.
The sound effects are even worse. The one you'll hear the most is the sound of your attack hitting an enemy. That sounds like static, and it drowns out every other sound in the game. Some sound effects don't even make any sense, like for when you pick up an e-tank. That one sounds like........ Someone swallowing, I guess.
I give the sound a 1 out of 10. There is nothing that redeems it. A two-year-old could bang on a keyboard for 12 hours, throw it into Auto tune, and the product would still sound better than any song in this game.
Difficulty: 1/10
Unlike its predecessor, Mega Man II is a cakewalk in the park. Extra lives and e-tanks are so plentiful; you'll actually end up with a storage problem. Though it's not like you'd need them in the first place. Stages are almost completely devoid of any plat forming challenges, enemies are placed in spots where you can easily snipe them from a distance, and the Mega buster proves to be the only weapon you'll actually ever need. Sure, special weapons make your life easier, but the Mega buster with its powerful "hit multiple enemies" ability, proves quite overpowered. The bosses aren’t much difficult themselves either. Returning bosses have had their patterns dumbed down and take more damage from their new weaknesses, and new bosses can be rid of amazingly quickly. So much for a challenge!
Addictiveness: 1/10
There is absolutely NOTHING addictive about this game. The bosses are ridiculously dull, and the stages are short, with little going for them other than a shortage of threatening enemies. Most of the special weapons are just retextured Buster shots, and you might not even have to use them against bosses. There's nothing fun here.
Depth: 1/10
There is nothing hidden in this game. No secrets, no collectables, nothing. As for the stages, there are 9 of them. Eight robot master stages and one stage that consist of the Blue Bombers trek through Dr. Wily’s melting clock space station. These levels are VERY short. Case in point, I can beat any given stage in 5-10 minutes, so that means it could take me anywhere from 45 to 90 minutes to beat this game, not counting time between levels. Do you really think there is bound to be much to a game that you can beat in 45 minutes?
Overall: 2/10
I give Mega Man II for GB a 2 of 10. A spectacular failure in just every way, Mega Man II is sure to make even the most hard-core of Mega Man fans want to puke after playing it.

I got screenshots for every enemy except Have "Su" Bee. Whoops! By the way, this is a fine title for Game Boy standards. I beat it just today in one sitting. It's a quality title.
