The Mega Man franchise has put out a lot of great games as well as series. Mega Man is considered one of the more popular video game characters of all time. Most of the Mega Man games have been popular. However, Capcom did make a very bad Mega Man game.
Mega Man II for Game Boy is one of the worst Mega Man games out there. So, in this review I am going to be reviewing and critiquing this awful game.

Story: 3
Here is how the story goes for Mega Man II. Dr Wily, steals a time machine and decides to go to the future. While, traveling into the future Dr. Wily captures Mega Man. He goes back to the present and reprograms the future Mega Man. The Mega Man that Dr. Wily Captures becomes Quint and he rides a Pogo stick. Meanwhile, Dr. Wily has also brought back 8 robot masters. Mega Man sets out to recapture the time Machine and stop Dr. Wily.

This by far is the worst Mega Man plot ever. Seriously, the evil scientists Dr. Wily is trying to use a time machine for world domination. Other Mega Man games have had Dr. Wily doing crazy and creative stuff  for world domination. Examples, include, sending robot armies, disguising himself as a rich tycoon, using evil energy, creating viruses, reprogramming robots, and sending an alien force of robots to attack the Earth. I do not know what Capcom was thinking by creating a story like this. Another thing is why did Wily capture Mega Man in the future and bring him back as Quint. Quint rides a Pogo Stick of all things. I just find that pathetic on Capcom's part. I would expect Dr. Wily to capture a future Mega Man and reprogram and turn him into a hard robot master to match Mega Man. Also were is the creativity in this plot. Mega Man II's plot had no creativity to it. The plot is so pathetic and to be honest it is very dull. I give the plot to Mega Man II a 3 out of 10. Yes, folks it is that bad.

Graphics and Controls : 3
The graphics in this game are pretty much like the plot to this game, awful. The only thing that keeps this from getting a lower rating is how the stars sparkle in the background. The stars sparking in the space backgrounds was a nice touch. Sadly, it is the only good thing about the graphics in this game. The graphics in this game are very bad. First of all, the sprints are out of whack badly. Rush in this game looks like is half the size of Mega Man. In other Mega Man games Mega Man is a  lot taller than Rush. Another thing is Dr. Wily looks smaller than Mega Man in this game. If anybody has played other Mega Man games they know that Wily is taller than Mega Man. In fact, Mega Man in this game is the same height as the Wily Machine in this game. Second, this game lags a lot. When entering a boss gate, the screen scrolls behind and then it will scroll forward. I find that to be very annoying. Also it seems like there are several lags in the robot master stages as well.

The controls in this game are horrible. Mega Man feels so stiff and sluggish through the entire game. At first, I thought it might be the emulator. So, I put my actual copy of the game into my Game Boy just to see if it was the emulator. Guess what, it is not the emulator at all the controls are that bad. I found that I felt like the controls were wanting to lock up. I hate games were you feel like you have to  hit the button twice to get the character to move. I also hate very stiff controls. I never thought Capcom would make a Mega Man game with bad graphics and controls. But, they did when they made Mega Man II for Game Boy. At the end of the day I give the graphics and controls a 3 out of 10, and that is being nice.

Sound: 2
Oh my gosh the sound in this game was horrible. I expected the robot masters to have similar themes to their Nintendo counterparts. After all III and IV for Game Boy had the same tunes as the Nintendo games. I was shocked when not one Robot Master had a similar tune to its Nintendo counterpart. The tunes in this game were very bad. I can't even think of one tune that I liked in this game, which is surprising. Mega Man games are often known for their rocking music so I do not know why Capcom came up with something like this? The Robot master weapons sound awful they do not make any sounds what so ever. Even the enemies sounds in this game sound horrible. Other Mega Man games had very good sounds that let the players know their weapons were doing damage. This game not so much even the buster does not have a good sound to it. Now for my biggest rant concerning the sounds to this game. There is lots of tingling in this game. Yes folks ever theme and sound in this game there is a tingle. Just how bad is the tingling? Well for starters it makes you want to mute the game or even turn off the game. Yeah it is that bad. When I first played this game I wanted to put ear plugs in my ear. So, there is nothing good about the sound in this game. I give the sound in Mega Man II a 2 out of 10.

Addictiveness: 1
How Likely am I to play this game again? I won't play this game again. This is a horrible game. The graphics are bad, controls are bad, and the sound is awful. This game does not have any depth to it what so ever. I played and brought this game mainly because I wanted the Game Boy series to be complete. I have only played this game twice. I have no plans on playing it again. Players who play this game will find out what I am talking about. It does not get much worse than this folks.

Depth: 3
The depth in this game was horrible. The only thing that keeps this from getting a 1 or a 2 is the robot master weapons. Yes, you have weapons to collect but that is about it. Unlike, other Mega Man games there are no items to collect, nor can you purchase items. Also the stages are very short in this game. Even Dr. Wily's fortress only has two stages. Compared to other Mega Man games this is a disappointment. Other quality Mega Man games had a lot going on in them. There were items to collect as well as purchased, long stages, and usually the player would have to go through  at least 4 Wily stages to reach Dr. Wily. Mega Man II did not have that quality feel to it. I do not know why Capcom did not put depth into this game like they did other Mega Man games. I like games that have depth to them. So, I give the depth in this game a 3 out of 10 and that is being generous.

Difficulty: 2
Mega Man games are known for their difficulty. In fact, some of the best Mega Man games really shined on difficulty. The players had to work and earn the items. The other quality Mega Man games that were difficult made beating them worth a celebration. Mega Man II on the other hand not so much. This game is not challenging at all. The robot masters can be taken down easy without there weaknesses. The stages are not challenging either. Even Dr. Wily is easy in this game. When I first saw Wood Man in this game, my first thought would be this is going to be a hard game. Wood Man in Mega Man 2 for Nintendo was hard to beat. Wood Man in this game is so easy. To be honest that made me mad because I like games that offer a challenge. I like to be challenged. In addition, Wood Man was my favorite boss from Mega Man II. To see him toned down in this game was a disgrace. To top things off, the spike placement in this game was not good. Other Mega Man games had several death traps in them, but this game not so much. Yeah, there are death spikes but they are not numerous in this game. The enemy placement was lacking in this game. They are enemies in this game but other quality Mega Man games just buried the player with enemies. This game did not have anything thing challenging in it. So, I give the difficulty in this game a 2 out of 10.

Overall: 2.9
Warning more rants about this game are coming. I do not know what Capcom was thinking when they made this game. I was in shock that Capcom could make a Mega Man game this bad. I feel like Capcom did not put any effort into this game. The graphics, sound, depth and difficulty are horrible in this game. Not to mention the story is even horrible too. The whole idea of Dr. Wily using a time machine is ridiculous. Then they have Dr. Wily capture a future Mega Man game only for him to be reprogrammed into a robot that rides a Pogo stick. If Capcom really wanted to have Dr. Wily use a time machine the plot should have been something like this. Dr. Wily steals a time machine, goes into the future and captures Mega Man. Dr. Wily turns the captured future Mega Man into a very tough fighting robot. Mega Man must destroy this clone of himself, capture the time machine, and bring Dr. Wily to justice. That would have been creative. I do not understand what we got and why we got what we did concerning this game? Also, I never thought I would see or play a Mega Man game that just made you want to stop playing after a few stages. This is what this game does it makes you want to turn off the game and play another Mega Man game. I am glad this game did not ruin the Mega Man Game Boy series. Thankfully Capcom made III, IV and V for Game Boy, which those 3 games turned out to be huge hits for the Game Boy.

I never thought I would say this about a Mega Man game, but I hate this game. I do not plan on playing it again and I do not want to. This game has not creativity, nothing challenging, a horrible sound system and as I mentioned a terrible plot. Mega Man players only get this game if you want the complete collection. Do not bother to play this game  it will just be a waste of your time. Players will probably turn the game off instead of playing it through. I do not recommend this game. Save yourself some time and play III, IV or V those three games are really good games for the Game Boy System. I give II a 2.9 yes its that bad.
