Lego Star Wars: Lego my Star Wars!   ThanatosUnraveld
So a long long time ago, a group of people decided to start making Lego video games based off popular franchises, and I kinda wished they would of done this sooner! Really though I think that this game could of came out any earlier than on the Gamecube/PS2. The graphics look just fine for Lego standards, the controls are pretty set in stone for controllers by that point. And you get a good amount of time to play the game to, as they had the space on the discs to tell the stories from multiple different movies, and not feel rushed or bloated. Lego Star Wars came out on March 29th, 2005 on the Gamecube, and it hit the ground running! And went to spawn a whole bunch more games on the Lego Star Wars side, and much in many other franchises. So lets see if this is a true Jedi Hero or more of a Jedi Zero.
{Story/Difficulty}
So I'm going to NOT spoil the plots to the Prequel trilogy, if you want that, go somewhere else! Instead I'll just give a brief overview of the beginning of each of the Lego game Episodes and you can just go from there! The first Episode starts off with you as Qui-Gon Jinn and a young Obi-Wan Kenobi. You must go through the federation level and must go from there to meet the likes of a young Padmee and Anakin Skywalker. Episode 2 starts with adult Obi-Wan and his droid R4-P17 on planet Kamino trying to find out the wonders of Clones. In this one you meet many great people like Boba Fett and Count Christopher Lee. Episode 3 has adult Anakin and almost old man Kenobi in their spaceships going after Vulture Droids and General Grevious's ship holding Paplatine, and Counter Christopher Lee. In this Episode we learn of the 'High Ground' and possibly more. The Episodes do a fairly accurate retelling of the Prequel films in Lego form with much Lego humor. I kinda feel like if you have never watched the movies you 'might' get the stories being told, but I do feel like its a lot more fun to know the stories ahead of time. And that may be why later games use full blown voice clips from movies, which this game does with sound effects. But I always loved how older Lego games could tell a story without actual words, and they actually had to use their brains for jokes. Which I feel this game excels in! So much great humor, so much slapstick, so much Lego, so little time to go over it! I also couldn't even begin with all the jokes in this game! You just have to see it yourself while you play the game to get it 100% I feel. They do kinda cut a lot out, like Anakin and Padmee's awkward conversation in 2 (and something about hating sand to!) Or the amazing character dynamics between Anakin and Obi-wan from Episode 2-3. But it has its own charm that the movies could never get, as they are not Lego! That's where I'm going end with the talk of the story of this Lego adventure. If you think that a Lego game is a hard game, well, I'm sorry for your loss. As Lego games by nature are made for way too old and way too young of people to play. You cant even really die in this game, instead its way more stress endusing. Which is the dropping of your Lego studs which physically kills me in real life! The jumps you have to make or the platforms you have to platform are never to taxing either. The camera might get in your way in one of those situations, but that's not exactly a normal difficulty thing, just a mistake, and not a happy one either. And its a bit hard to get lost to as not only does the game do a great job of railroading you through the levels. But the Lego Studs you pick up also do the same. And next to the 'final boss' all bosses are just as simple as spamming attack on them. The only Level I never want to do is the Gunship Level on Geonosis I just constantly die when I do this Level and I don't really know why.Also i dunno how useful Co-Op mode is, if you and the other player doesn't play on the same wave link, not like i know anything about that! But it still hypothetically makes the game easier. So really as long as you just keep holding forward and spamming buttons you should literally beat this game. I dunno how else easier it could be next to literally playing the game for you! So for all that ill give the difficulty a 4 out of 10, next to half paying attention to what your doing the game is just way easy. And in terms of the story ill give it a 7 out of 10, its a pretty accurate retelling of the Prequel movies, so its fun if you want a humorous retelling of them.
{Graphics/Sound}
So I'll just come out and say it. Everything should be made out of Lego's in real life, If it was, then dang it we would still have Harambe! But for realz, next to the fairy well hand painted backgrounds, everything is made out of Lego's in this game. The characters, the ships, the ground you a lot of times walk on! It's all Lego's and its all amazingly remade in lovely details. Next to Shell-Shading I dunno what else looks so unique as the Lego look. OK Yohistaka Amano's art is also up there, but that's not here! Nothing in this game really feels out of place, even Yoda's kinda creepy face looks not as creepy as Original Trilogy Yoda. The biggest problem with characters is that a lot look pretty samey. I mean almost everyone looks the same in terms of how their body shapes, and there's like 6 versions of characters like Anakin and Padmee and Obi-Wan an-.......... ANYWAYS! Next up is talking about the great ship designs! All are just great once again! From Anakin's ship to the HUGE Federation ships that you shoot down in Episode 3 they sure took a lot of time to make the designs for these and I just give them all the love and attention they deserve whenever I see them. I don't really think any of them look to samey or anything, But there isn't as many ship designs as there are characters, so there's a lot of times where you gotta kill like 8 of the same ship type. I feel that one is WAAAAAY worse in Lego Star Wars 2 but its kinda noticeable here as well. The entire concept that when you die you EXPLODE! into little Lego bits is a great touch, so is the Lego pieces just laying around for you to build into stuff into interact with. From the graphics to the sound this game has it all. But to be honest, the sounds are just the already amazing sounds and music from the Star Wars movies. I cant complain and say its bad, cuz its not, its just to my knowledge no new music is made for this game, outside of some of the gag sounds and music I suppose. Even though its all reused sounds and music, they are used in the best of ways. Like Jano Fetts and Rd-D2's death cries are forever etched into my brain for all the right reasons. And while you do hear the iconic opening....... 46 times, I dunno if I ever get tired of hearing it. They might of reused the wonders of the Star Wars soundtrack I still feel the sound deserves a 8 out of 10. And the graphics for sure get a 9 out of 10. Like I said the concept of something going Lego is an amazing concept and looks perfect in this game.
{Addictive/Depth}
Going back to the Co-Op I feel like there is an endless amount of fun to be had in this game. From just doing a Level together to doing the Podrace level or just running around Dexter's Diner, which is a completely original location only found in the original version of this game. And if you just play by yourself then you can have loads of fun as well. From just trying to 100% the Levels so you can get all the cool ships out in the parking lot. Or unlocking all the characters/Power-Ups. There's a good amount to do. Like I said you can unlock ships to look at, or use in Freeplay, which is a game mode to help you 100% the game. You get them from Minikits which holds the pieces for them. You cant get Red Blocks or Gold blocks in this game, but I kinda feel like anything past those collectibles was always way to much padding. And really just being able to use different characters in Levels they shouldn't be in or using ships the same way, will never get old. So I feel you can just do a normal playthough and watch all the cute cutscenes and what not. Then go back through again with all the extra characters and ships to 100% those Levels. Then once you get the Stud increase X111,111,111,111,112 or whatever the highest is and just go back through the game until you max the counter out! OK you might not do that last one but I do feel like you probably could get 2 or 3 good playthroughs of Lego Star Wars.I feel like for this game the addictiveness and the depth go hand in hand. This game for sure has a great grasp on how to keep the depth of a game addicting while not being either too shallow or having too much to learn. By the time you get tired of 100% it you'll be like 85 to 95% done, and once you finish it, then everything just feels right! Just to walk about and see everyone from Episode 1.2. and 3 wondering about Dexter's Diner, with Dexter trying so hard to keep up with drinks! And then to walk outside and see all the ships out there, its like all the characters drove in together in them! It's either kinda cool or I'm kinda ADHD, one of the two! So for the addictiveness I'll give it an 8 out of 10, and for the depth I'll give you a 6 out of 10.
And that is how I got the High Ground, Young Padowan. The guys over at TT games sure made a banger with this game that is for sure! Only about a year later they popped out Lego Star Wars II. And many years later they came out with the not so good (in my opinion) Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga for the Wii, and no 200% of my hatred is not from the lack of Dexter's Diner, its only 175%. The other 25% is that everyone uses red lasor blasters and no blue! But to get back to this little masterpiece that I've been blabbing about. This game will always hold a Lego piece chunk of my heart and I'll never need it back from it! I've played this game so many times and I will so many times more! If you haven't then you really should if your a Lego fan, or a Star Wars fan, or just a fan of having fun! This is a 9.2 out of 10 game and well worth your time and money.

Its a great Sunday Funday game, but better, and with Legos   THErealFRED
Well now what a very.......... different type of game why because it takes 3 things that was part of a lot of our childhood Legos Star Wars and video games so if you where to take all those and put 'em in to a blender not only would you get a lot of pieces of broken discs and some chopped up Legos but you also get a fun and sorta tangy drink that's fine to look at but its also a enjoy experience when you get to drinking this metaphorical drink. so what's so great about Lego Star Wars The Video Game well sit back and read on and find out.
So the Graphics ya.......... the graphics there, there............ interesting as EVERYTHING is made out of Legos now that in its own right is something to be proud of, but ya everything from the characters to the bushes to the ground everything is made out of Legos that must of took a lot of time to do, they also when as far as to make it so that when ever you make something go kaboom (which is always a fun thing to do right) it explodes in a shower of Lego pieces that bounce all around like it would if you walked up to your five year old brothers Lego collection and just gave it a good round house kick its flat plastic face. Contradiction time, while the area of play is made out of all Legos the background to some places are not made out of Legos any area that is in a outside environment has a kind of sorta 'photo realistic background that isn't really that noticeable but is still noticeable, personally I find that the second game has a more noticeable background but hey that's just me. But all in all the graphics are really great and they are really unique to I mean not only are they made out of Legos but they done a good job of remaking stuff like the Droid Factory to General grievous's ship to the attack on titan I-I mean attack on kashyyyk they really tried to make you relive the movies in a more Lego-ish type of experience and for that they get a 8 out of 10 in my book.
Now its time for a Sound check, well to be honest if you've watched the movies or played any other Star Wars games then you pretty much already know what to hear when you play this game (A.K.A the classic awesomeness that is the star wars classic sound track) everything is a familiar sound from the battle music to the sound that the blasters make when they fire them. They also took the sound of I think its when in Star Wars Episode 2 when Obi Wan fights Jango Fett and they start to fall off the side of the landing pad place that there one and Jango does like a grunt sound or something or another they used that sound for Jango Fett when ever he gets blown into a million Lego Pieces. To be honest while Lego Star Wars doesn't really bring anything new to the table it also doesn't take away any classic tunes either and well the classic tunes are really good (granted there isn't really, as of this time any new star wars movies so I count all 6 star wars movies sound tracks as 'the classic' ones) and there's also not really that much music that actually plays during the game when your not fighting stuff its kind of music and I wouldn't go as far as to say its atmospheric but its something and its ok with me, and with it being ok with me ill give the Sound a 7 out of 10.
So the Addictiveness of this game is kind of like along the same line as Mario Kart Double Dash as in its best played with a friend most generally one that is like 8 because it might be a bit weird if you walk up to your C.O.D buddy as was like hey lets go and play a game with Legos in it. But back on point Lego Star Wars WANTS you to play with some friends and how do I know this well the instruction manual has a entire like 2 pages explaining how the game is better played with more then one person and it also has a part where it helps you explain to your parents that it would not be a waste of time to play Lego Star Wars and you know what for once the proof is in the Lego Pudding (wow I've made a lot of food allegories in this review)as in this game is really fun, for a short period of time that is if your playing this game alone but with friends you can have hours of fun and will want to pick this game back up later on and that's a good thing too because there's no point in owning a game and only playing it once all the way through and never picking it up ever again. So after saying all that I give the Addictiveness of this game a nice 6 out of 10.
STORY TIME KIDDIES ok so its a Lego game that is based off the original three movies that is in the time line of star wars the original like stated above but it is technically by release date the sequels to the first three that was released first (episodes 4, 5, 6)by they are really the sequels because they in the time line the last 3 episodes but they where released first so episodes 1, 2, and 3 are really 4, 5, and 6 by release but by time line aspects they are 1, 2, and 3 and I wont even try to fit the Force Unleashed games into there 0,o but anyways the game is based off of Episode 1, 2, and 3 (A.K.A Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, and Revenge of the Sith) so to rate games I would also kind of be rating the movies and I have no idea how I would do that 'cuz its Star Wars but well the way the game goes at the movies is that they show Lego cut scenes and they put different types of humor in them (hard to explain it would be better just to look up its 'tongue and cheek' humor up on YouTube)and they do this all without voice acting which is really neat because its like watching one of those old black and white silent movies but in color, magic, so to not spoil the plot of the movies ill just say the first episode involves a guy with a two ended lightsaber, the second involves well clones, and the third involves the Sith rubbing the Jedi the wrong way and ill keep it at that. And sense I grew up with the original which isn't really the original but is by the star wars universe, movies I only feel right to give the storie(s) a perfect 10 out of 10.
Pull out your little flexible rulers because its time to look at the Depth of Lego Star Wars and how deep is it you might ask well to get right down to the blocky truth the game is actually kind of deep in terms of what is to be found and unlocked or bought in game. In terms of what you can buy in the game with studs (the games form of money and not a attractive young guy) well there's some characters (like 50 or more)some special abilities and some hints and in the all of the levels there are these 10 things called Minikits getting all 10 of them in a level well unlock a ship that you can look at in the hub world (Dexter's Diner) some of the Minikits cant be found in your first time through level so you will have to come back and get them and if you compete everything in the game you can unlock a special fourth door and there's a little secret behind it............ Well as you can see this is for a kids game quite big, now the way I explained it might not make it sound big but if you play it for yourself then you will see just how much stuff you can unlock from invincibly to stud multipliers all the way up to a unlockable that turn your lightsabers into just a cup........... I force you not its in the game, there's also a lot of neat little Easter eggs in the game like chairs that dance and play the original star wars theme to a room that well once again plays the classic tune in a electro type of fashion (Lucas arts sure likes there tunes) after collecting enough Minikits I have found that the best rating for the Depth of this game is 7 out of 10.
Really.......... really? Do I really have to talk about the Difficulty of a game that when you die you respawn where you died at (unless you jump off the edge of a level) well if I must then well Lego star wars has to be the easiest game I have ever played I mean there is no penalty for dying or killing your partner the only thing that does happen when you die you loss some of your studs that can be picked up after you respawn so the difficulty is a laugh and that's kind of all I have to say about how 'hard' this game is. So I was kind of iffy about rating this part but sense you can die I decided that I might as give the Difficulty a small rating of 1 out of 10.
So after a small handful of Legos and food jokes I can safely say that Lego Star Wars the Video Game has a title that tells you all that the game will be about which is great but it also tells you what age group it is meant for and that's not a bad thing per say but for gamers like me who is more based around a nice structured story and character development this game doesn't really stand out as anything but A GAME COMEPLETLY MADE OUT OF LEGOS HOW FLAPJACKIN COOL IS THAT ILL TELL YOU HOW COOL LIKE MR. FREEZE AND SUB ZERO MIXED TOGETHER COOL YA THAT COOL (I'm sure there could have been a Ice Cream joke there but I decided to be the better man and not tell it) ahem anyways Lego Star Wars is just the first in the many Lego games out there so get a copy of this game and play it and enjoy if for what it is a Sunday Funday game, with bricks, and apparently a lot of food jokes (give yourself a pat on the back if you know what Sunday Funday is)
