With it's recent newsletter, Sony gave out 20% off coupons, and to a few lucky PlayStation gamers, a $100 PSN gift card code.
The 20% off code expires on the 31st of the month, so be sure to get it and use it quickly if you want to save some money on a game you planned to nab, or on the current flash sale (which ends tomorrow morning, so hurry!).
By the way, the theme of the current flash sale is "everything goes!" Or basically, the theme is that
there is no theme.
PS3 Laid To Rest In Japan
In other news, PS3 production is coming to an end in Japan. That's right, Japan will soon have no more new PS3s, and it can only be assumed that more regions will soon follow.
This could be taken as a sign that the PS4 has defied the odds and actually been a console that caught on in Japan, a handheld dominated market, or it could mean that Sony is just ready to move on from PS3 production there in order to save money.
Indeed though, the PlayStation 4 has caught on in Japan, and sold fairly well for a console. The most recent numbers released show that it has moved well over 3,000,000 units in Japan, and that's saying something. What's more, even the PS4 pro met with high sales numbers at launch in Japan.
So while this could be -- and likely is -- the mark of a trend that's soon to follow worldwide for PS3, it's also possible that Sony finally feels confident enough in the PS4's presence in Japan to move on from the PS3 there. One thing's for sure though: there will be a marked reduction in Japanese games being released in Japan and worldwide for the PS3, meaning those of you who enjoy them will need to move on to a PS4 or a PS Vita soon.
PS4 Claims Over Half Of Console Market Share In Hardware And Software
Finally, last year's numbers are in, and they reveal that PlayStation 4 took 51% of the console and handheld sales worldwide, meaning it outsold all other systems combined.
Additionally, PS4 games make up over 57% of game sales among consoles.
That'll do it for your mini
update about the world of PlayStation gaming. I don't plan to make any more articles of this nature, but there were just too many notable news pieces to pass up on this time. If, however, you'd like to see more articles like this one, or if there's any other particular topic you'd like to see discussed, let me know. I'd prefer to keep things PlayStation focused, but I can cover games in general or Nintendo as well.
Thanks for reading, and here's to hoping one of you got a $100 voucher in your email.
