Ever wonder how someone came up with the idea for something.  Take Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles for example, when you hear the title you're just left wondering how the heck did anyone come up with that.  This game is about an anthropomorphic police dog who goes around in a mech that can grab things and shoot bubbles.  How the heck did anyone come up with that.  Also who came up with the title for this game?  I mean why Tail Concerto?  This game has nothing to do with music.  I mean you could have called it A policeman's Tail or Legend of the Iron Giant or Dog days and it would make more sense.  Questions aside this is a pretty fun game.  I found it while browsing through games made by Atlus and it looked interesting.  I heard it was short so figured it was worth a quick playthrough.  And I'm glad I did.

Graphics (9):  This game looks very nice, especially the cut scenes.  Now by nice I don't mean that it looks incredibly detailed and hyper realistic buy rather it has a more cartoonish style.  While there are games I can say look better objectively I just really liked the graphics and they complimented the more comical and comedic style better than a more realistic one.  I also thought the character designs looked nice.  The cutscenes are done in 2d animation rather than 3d and I think these cut scenes were the best part of the graphics.  There were a few minor graphical errors that kept this from being a 10.

Sound (7):  The music to this game was pretty good, I mean I didn't hear anything that really got stuck in my head but at the same time I didn't dislike any of the music.  The voice acting was pretty good as well, matching the characters well.  The only character who's voice I didn't like was the main character himself sadly.  I didn't hate his voice it's not irritating to listen to or anything, but he really didn't put much emotion into it.  This game does get bonus points for having the main villain sound like Meowth though.

Addictiveness (5):  The game managed to keep my attention through the first playthrough but was not enough for me to do a second playthrough.  The gameplay is rather simple but works well for the most part.  Some minor gripes are the lack of a strafe ability and a bit of sluggishness in my movement speed.  You can move forward or backward without changing your direction with the r buttons but no sidestep.  You can do a side jump but it's not the best and hard to do and they don't tell you how to do it so you'll end up doing it when you don't want to.  Also I feel that I move just slightly slower than I should be, especially when fighting bosses.  The bosses were rather challenging but felt fair for the most part.  You have two ways of attacking, shooting your bubble gun that does low damage but you can shoot it as much as you want.  The second is to grab bombs that your enemies throw at you and throw them back.  This does more damage but is more risky especially since the aforementioned sluggish movement speed making it harder to throw the bomb and then run out of the way.  The combat is a bit tedious at times, but fortunately there isn't that much combat in the game.  About halfway through the game you start doing platforming.  The platforming sections were actually my favorite part of the game.  You also have an area you fly around with a jet pack, but I'm just sad it's only in one section of the game.  All and all the game was enjoyable to play through once but not something you go and play through it again right after you beat it.

Story (5):  The story is rather simple and quick.  Because of this it's hard to talk about the story without spoiling anything major and at the same time having much to say.  You start off as a policeman who gets called in to stop the Black Cat Gang and shenanigans ensue.  The main character is a rather simple character and I feel like he's the strait man of the story, not much to talk about him.  The antagonists are interesting, they have that classic 3 character set, the leader, the kid, and the reserved one.  And while this is a classic set I do enjoy listening to them.  Also at the same time I like them as characters.  The main villain wasn't really fleshed out as much as I think he should have been.  Your rival also should have been built up more.  He's more of a joke in this game with little build up so when he fails it's not as funny as it could/should have been.

In this game you find yourself collecting special gems.  You might be guessing "These must be the 4 gems that represent the elements like every other game out there."  Actually no, they're special gems but their are 5 of them and they don't have any elemental ties to them.  This might seem minor but I like how it's not going down the cliché route.  You also have a princess and while yes she gets kidnapped once she doesn't feel like the damsel always in distress.  All and all while this game's story isn't stellar, it also doesn't fall into super cliché routes either which I can appreciate.

Depth (4):  You can easily beat the game in 5 hours, 6-7 if you want to 100% it.  The game is rather quick especially if you know what you're doing.  You also have some bonus boxes you can pick up.  Each one gives part of a picture, get 4 for one picture and you can look at it in your photo album.  I hear that if you find them all you'll unlock a new one but I feel no need to play through again just to get it.  Other than that there's nothing else to really do in the game.  I think they probably could have done a little more to the game, and help flesh out some of the things in it.

Difficultly (4):  This game is rather easy, with all the continues and healing items you'll find, the easy enemies and platforming you won't find yourself dying much.  When you do die it will probably be from the bosses who are somewhat challenging.  But because there are save points before almost every boss it makes them easier.  Also when you beat an enemy they're beaten and you won't run into them when you leave and renter.  I actually like this because while yes it does make the game easier it also makes your actions feel like they have more of an impact.

Overall (7.5):  Over all this was an entertaining game.  The graphics were nice, most of the voice acting was good, the gameplay was overall fun, and it was overall an easy but fun game.  I probably wouldn't have liked this game as much if I had to pay for it, the lack of content in it is a drawback.  Playing this game is like watching Hyper Police, while it was a little awkward at times, it was not perfect and a bit underdeveloped at times, it nevertheless has this charm to it that makes it fun.  I liked the characters in this, and the story while not great was interesting.  I really liked how the game looked, and honestly if this were an Anime I would probably watch it.

I've played this before actually

It's pretty good

if you're a furry

Jokes aside nice review and stuff, I do recommend some people try this game after reading your review of it. It's one of the better platforming games on the PS1
