All right, I am sure that you all have been there. You are fighting a particular person online, and you are kicking their butt with nearly every character you pick. Then, without warning...they pick THAT character. The character that annoys you, the one that you think is nothing more that a cheat code for smash bros. or perhaps just one you have not been able to figure the fighting style of. But suddenly, they are there. I actually just came from playing smash bros wii u at the time of this post. Before I came here the last 4 people I played did the exact same thing. Picked the exact same character after losing to me a couple times. Some of them just beat me up and the others just were really annoying. For me, that character was Cloud.  Bayonetta used to be there and is still a character that I despise (for a number of reasons) but, the rage for this character seems to have died down and I almost never have to fight her. When I do, it's usually someone who doesn't fare very well against me and is just trying to get an edge. Some of them work, some not.

I feel like Cloud especially is way too powerful for his speed and range. Granted, his recovery isn't that great, but if he has a limit break stored up, there goes that disadvantage. It's just been really difficult for me to find a way around this character. The only time I feel like I have a shot of outdoing him is in neutral game, which usually doesn't last long. His disadvantage game is annoying. His advantage game will keep you in the air unless he screws up or doesn't play that way. And last but not least, the limit break moves. These make it so difficult because so many times I have just been tearing up the other cloud, and I'm at 50% or so, I miss like one hit and he's right there to blow me away with a stinking limit break move. It just doesn't feel fair that some who is already as powerful as he is can just luck you out like that. Especially when you were cleaning up a couple minutes ago.

There's probably going to be someone that sees this and just rolls their eyes, and says i'm just whining about it because i'm not that good. This is more of a rage post than anything, but I do feel like it is an issue in competitive online play. Feel free to talk about the characters that just infuriate you when you were having a good time. Thanks for putting up with my rant!

I don't play sm4sh because I don't have a wii u but I can say that I've looked up plenty on cloud, there are some disadvantages you can get him with, but they're usually pretty rare. He's probably the character that needs nerfing the most, but at the same time I don't want him nerfed because I like him being super OP

While I exactly haven't played Smas4h as It's called.  I used to play smash brothers brawl against my family and what not.


So Basically it was me and my family member against two CPU's in a 4 player death match.

The problem was that my family member constantly picked Sonic...


Now I don't think Sonic himself is OP, but his final smash is. 


I came close to beating Sonic using Kirby(because Kirby is a relatively good character) But I lost again due to that stupid Super Sonic final Smash.



The problem I have with it is once Super Sonic is active, there's no defense against it.   It damages you regardless, and you have no reaction time.



Yeah Super Wario can be argued to have an equally Overpowered final smash , but there's some catches to it(rare but still).

SuperCrash64 : I can both agree and disagree with you here. Yes, the sonic final smash is crazy good for brawl. (But wait till you see some of the finals in Smash4!) Also, I enjoy playing sonic the hedghog in 4 mainly because of his speed, which gives you a more generous reaction time. Also like playing as kirby, meta knight (but not as much as I used to) Lucario, Toon Link, Ike, pikachu and yoshi (newly started up)

Also, Brawl is the best for single player smash action, thanks to subspace emisarry!

I usually find that what matters most is the skill of the user of a character, more than the actual character itself. But I've noticed a trend that the characters who get used the least (the "bad" characters), if a player knows how to use them well, the other will not know what to do with themselves. For instance, I know abos***ely no one personally that ever even tries to play as Lady Palutana, but I have faced people who know how to use her online and they are nothing short of terrifying.

taterii : I'm with you. A good player who knows the combos, knows the weaknesses of other characters, like Cloud, and knows how to match up against them is going to win more often than the guy who picks the strongest character in the game.

If you know Cloud is overmatching you with raw stats or skills, do the research and find who's the best counter. Then go practice them and get really, really good so it's natural when you do their moves and attack with them. Find a way to overcome. You know it's coming so it's no surprise when your friend picks Cloud.

Learn the ins and outs and the weaknesses and go practice. Then you'll laugh the whole time the other guy is busy getting beaten.
