So long ago the idea of adding a service for us to change the name colours of players online was thrown around. Right now only the admins have their names changed with a different colour, and this can be helpful because it's easy to see who is an admin of the server. Would you also like to have your name colour changed to add that slight flair to individuality (for a small price, of course :p)?

I'm going to up the ante. Instead of 'not really,' I'm going with "absolutely no way."

There are already horrendous backgrounds and art in posts that make reading some of the posters' comments impossible. It's a dumpster fire to try and squint at what someone says because their layout is a mess and unreadable. I don't want to put the effort in to highlight the stuff if that person is so unaware of the look of their layout. That means they're probably not really paying attention to what they write either.

Unfair? Sure. Accurate? More than you think.

So, name color changes take effect. How soon before someone decides to make their name the same blue as the background of the site? How soon before this whole place turns into Myspace and we're all dumber for the experience?

Myspace, for you young'ns, caused seizures back maybe 15 years ago because of how garish and aggressive the graphics were. It was a nightmare.

No. Keep the names the unified color. Keep something consistent. Do different colors for trusted or for staff but that's it.

Ghostbear1111 : Just going to point this out he means on the minecraft server I can see how you misunderstood (I mean unless I missed it he never states on minecraft) but that's what he meant lol.

After thinking about it I've decided sure because not all the admins use it anyway and I would like my user name to be better than plain white so why not? xD

I know this might come of the wrong way with me being an admin and all but I really don't think this is a good idea.

Like you said, right now it's easy to tell who's an admin and who's not. I've had multiple people contact me from the map already just because they thought my red name meant I was an admin. And I think that's how colored names should be on a server, to distinct the staff from the regular users. 

What would be better would be a rank system. Something like we have on the site.

FE; You start of as a "newbie" (or whatever term might replace it), after like 20 hours you can ask to become a "member" (or whatever term we might have), after 50 hours you can ask to become "trusted" (or with whatever name we come up with) and then at 500.000 seconds (or like 140 hours) you can become an "elite".

Pretty sure there's like a plugin for something like this out there somewhere.


I also don't recall ever discussing this, and if it was before I was hired (a year ago) then we really should re-discuss the idea first.

I feel like it should be more for people whom are more dedicated to the server and for a price as opposed to someone whom is new. Everyone will want one. But it would be nice if you offered it to a select few that have shown their worth on the server.

In this mold, I suggest that we base it on those who win contests on the server.

This would serve two purposes.

1 - It would give people a reason to actually participate in contests.

2 - It would give REAL value to the custom colors.

Lord Leggy - King of IT: Unless this would be the only prize for a MC competition, Which yes, I could see people wanting that, I dont think david will be doing any more competitions on the server for a long while. As well as I dont think people would go on solely for that. Not that I think its bad, its a great idea. Like how im agreeing that it shouldnt be available at a price per say, but still be available in some way

Furret : That probably would be a better system, and it synergies well with other suggestions of it having to be earned in some form. It might be best however to let it be a way to easily spot admins on the server.

The idea was just haphazardly mentioned on the server one day, and it was agreed to see if other people were interested. It wasn't until now that I actually made the thread : P

Ghostbear111: Like Sonic said, I was referring to the Minecraft Server and name colour changes on that specifically. Sorry if I didn't make that clear.

I am going to play the apathy card here. It might be nice to have different colors and styles to a name,but at the end of the day it is useless. It is like in DC Universe Online,where you have 'auras' that surround your character. They look fancy,but are useless. And people are willing to cough up rare items,tons of in-game cash,and in some cases real cash.

I'll vote for yes, although i don't quite know who is going to have these names in the final.
