So as you probably know by now, System Shock Remastered has not only met it's Kickstarter goal but also surpassed it by a bit. The game has been a given for a while now, but recently it was revealed that the game is officially coming to the PS4. The game was initially revealed as a PC and Xbox One game, but after people continued asking for a PS4 version, the developers said they were in discussion with Sony about making it possible.
Now for those of you who keep up with PlayStation at all, this likely translated into "We will make a PS4 version" as the company (Sony) makes it a habit to do all they can to accommodate developers in bringing their games to PlayStation, but it wasn't exactly official...
Until now.
"We already had strong contacts at Microsoft from prior projects, so supporting Xbox One was less of an unknown. After we saw the overwhelming demand for PS4, we reshuffled our priorities and focused on talking to Sony about making that happen. After a few weeks and lots of emails, we are officially on track for bringing System Shock to the PS4"*
Nightdive Studio's Jason Fader said in a KickStarter update.
According to the team at Nightdive Studio, they had always been interested in a PS4 version of the game, but they had several things that they needed to do before even seriously considering it.
Now as Fader pointed out, this process will mean more costs for them in terms of both money and time, but it's something they have apparently deemed worth the trouble, and with PS4 sales looking to continue setting records, it should pay off in the end (note that Fader didn't say anything in regards to sales or profit).
The icing on the cake? Let me give it to you straight from the horse's mouth (and by icing on the cake I mean an extra touch to make it even better. And by horse's mouth I mean Jason Fader himself. I don't recommend taking anything out of an actual horse's mouth):
"No stretch goal for it. We're adding it in as a thank you to our backers that put their faith in us."**
Well Mr. Fader, you're welcome.
So there you have it: System Shock is coming to PS4, free of any prerequisites or additional burdens of any kind to the backers. However they have pointed out that the more money that is donated the better the game can be made, which is a given. So if you're interested in this title, by all means think about sending them a small donation.
System Shock Remastered is due out in Q1 2018.
