Dragonquest 8 Journey Of The Cursed King Walkthrough

Hi guys! Here is a game I simply adore. Now this walkthrough will be spilt into parts. I mainly did this because the guide I did before, I felt that I didn't gain enough cp. so I am doing this one to boot it up. so then it can equalize. Before you all start barking at me saying I broke the rules for the game guide forum. I didn't. I know fully well what the rules hold. I spoke to eirinn about this for a reason ahead of time, and some others as well. This game as a whole when I do it will break the word limit. Plus any person who has played the game can see how extra long it is. Not only that there other bunch of different sections. That will be explained in the second half. For the first half will be on more focused on the story better yet your long journey throughout the game. And after the main storyline I will do the secret story. Which can only be unlocked by completing the game the first time. I do hope what I put down here will be helpful. Also I'll be adding stuff like the best place to train and to get money as well.

There are many cutscenes in the game and of course the main characters talk. Not all of them. Anyways when you have chosen the name for your hero then continue on. The a cutscene will happen which of course will build your curiosity. When that's over it won't end there. You get to meet some of the main characters. Yangus, a troll, a Horse and last a handsome young man who looks like goku and gohan from dragonball z. This young man sadly wasn't created to talk so he is the silent protagonist.

There are 4 in total. At the start you only have hero and yangus the other 2 can be found further into the game. But anyways you will be guided a bit on how to use the controls here are some pictures

You can also lift and break barrels. That also goes for vases storage. When you come across them they will be on the floor and have gray colour. When you have gotten the hang of moving the hero around go and talk to Yangus a small dialogue will happen then the troll who's name is actually Trode will panic asking where medea is when you guys look around a bunch of water looking things called *Slime* come out to attack you here is a glimpse of what they look like

And so here is what the battle mode looks like

It's good so that you get familiar with how it works and I am going to explain parts of the battle mode so you don't get confused some people can be if they are not too familiar with this typical battle. As you can see from the picture it says

Battle mode

Fight
Flee
Intimidate
Tactics

When you hit fight it opens up another section but I'll get to explaining that in a bit. As know for flee means run away. Now for the next one I actually laughed. There isn't many games you find that you try to intimidate your opponents. That's what it is for all I can say that it works sometimes while most of the time it doesn't. As for tactics here is some explanation of what it does

The screen displays each characters name in the current battle party on the left, and their current tactic to the right of their name. If you want everyone to have the same tactic, choose the All option underneath the names. When you choose either an individual character, or the All Change option. these six strategies will appear

Show No Mercy
Fight Wisely
Focus on Healing
Don't Use Magic
Get Psyched Up
Follow Orders

Show No Mercy - When this strategy is used. The party members go all out in offense mode using their most powerful attacks and spells. But this will mean that they won't focus so much on healing.

Fight Wisely - When this strategy is used. The party members balance out their attacks with offense with defense. So at times fighting all out while watching their backs with defences.

Focus on Healing - This is defensive strategy. This will help heal your party members and increasing all of their defences as well. This strategy is very helpful and useful against stronger monster's above your levels.

Don't Use Magic -
As it says no magic will be used at all. Meaning no cast of magic in the battles. With this the party member or member will build tension. Psyche up.

Get Psyched Up- With this one your party members will build a lot of tension to cause some serious damage to enemies and bosses as well.

Follow Orders - This of course if following the leader hero is the leader. So then you can control how your party members will and how they attack by.

Now for the fighting part as you saw from the picture it says

Attack
Spells
Defend
Abilities
Items
Psyche up

When you use attack it will inflict damage and also I shows in numbers how much damaged you made like this

For Spells you learn them more as you level up you will learn different types of Spells to heal, to attack or other ones as a matter of fact lemme show you, but for each person their Spells may not be the same as each others.

Spells list

Here are Hero's Spell List

For Field

Heal – Is at level 3 this spell helps to heal one party member.

Squelch – Is learned at level 4 this spell helps to remove the effects of poison cast on one of your party members.

Evac – Is learned at level 6 this spell helps to evac from any caves and certain places as well.

Zoom – Is learned when skill points for courage has reached to courage 8 this spell helps you to previously go back to a town or city you last visited and can be for many others as well.

Midheal – Is at level 18 this helps to heal more to your party members better than heal.

Holy Protection - Is learned when skill points for courage has reached to courage 28 this spell creates a barrier of the sort and will not allow monsters to randomly encounter you for battle. So when this spell is cast you'll be able to run freely without having to fight any battles until it wears off on its own or you enter into a town.

Zing – Is learned at level 29 this brings back one party member to life. But with this spell its 50/50 so it will not always work.

Omniheal - Is learned when skill points for courage has reached to courage 82.

For Attacks

Sizz - Is learned at level 11 this burns your enemies with a fire move.
Tingle - Is learned when skill points for courage has reached to courage 16. This spell helps you to remove effects of sleep and paralyze that was cast on your party members.

Sizzle - Is learned at level 20 upgraded version of sizz.

Fizzle - Is learned when skill points for courage has reached to courage 40 prevents enemies from casting any magic.

Zap - Is learned when skill points for courage has reached to courage 48 decreases defences of a single enemy.

Kazap - Is learned when skill points for courage has reached to courage 100 decreases defences to all enemies. That are of the same kind for instance. Not slime and she-slime. Like 8 slimes that is how the spell will work out.

Yangus Spells List

For Field

Whistle - Is learned when skill points for Humanity has reached Humanity 4 this calls out monsters to battle. So like you don't have to keep on running around to encounter them. But stay in one spot and let them come to you.

Heal – Is learned when skill points for Humanity has reached Humanity 10.

Nose for Treasure – Is learned when skill points for Humanity has reached Humanity 16 this is basically yangus telling you how many treasures are in one area.

Share magic –
Is learned when skill points for Humanity has reached Humanity 32.

Midheal –
Is learned when skill points for Humanity has reached Humanity 68.

For Attacks

Kabuff – Is learned when skill points for Humanity has reached Humanity 42. This raises defences for all party members.

Kerplunk – Is learned when skill points for Humanity has reached Humanity 82 < (Don't go learning this move unless you are really advanced in playing this game.)

This may be a nut cracker to explain but I'll do my best too when your characters reach lv 4 they will start to gain points to raise their skills. This is called skill points. And this also connects with Spells as well. When you start to lv up from 1 you should start to learn the simple Spells anyways here is a picture

The skill points come at random numbers when you lv up. Like sometimes you gain 3 points or 6 it depends so I can't really pint point. Use points on places you want to train up more

Sword
Spears
Boomerangs
Fisticuffs
Courage

For me I don't really like using boomerangs and fisticuffs so I mostly lv up sword part, courage and spear as well. I do that more for yangus. Also in the description it explains when you scroll down what each skills can do.

Here is Yangus's one

It's not so different from Hero's one except his weapons as said before read the description to see how it helps you having a choice of which ones you want to lv up. You use the Defend button to defend and then there is Abilities you gain new abilities when you use your skill points in certain areas. Like for instance when you level up hero or use your skill points on certain places for sword or spear it also unlock other abilities. As for items There may be some ones that can confuse you in a way. So make sure to read the description of when wanting to use a certain item to heal one of your party members. Like these ones for an example

Medicinal Herb – This restores 30 or more hp to a party member.

Antidotal Herb – This heals when an ally is inflicted with poison.

Chimaera Wing –
This allows you to warp instantly to a selection of places you have previously visited.

Holy water – This temporarily prevents weaker monsters from attacking the party.

Amor seco essence – This restores 60 or more hp to a party member.

Moonwort bulb –
This cure the entire party of the effects of paralysis.

I hope that helped in a little way so when you adventure more further on you'll see items that will be used for different things. Now as for *Psyche up* this move is very important I'll explain what does. It actually helps in many ways including boss fights. When you use the move it basically causes tension and build up power and how this works it starts like this

5
20
50
100

100 is the highest. When your character gets pumped a lot and reaches the highest tension successfully they will look cool and that’s the truth. You know how goku can go super sayain? That’s what it is. And here is a link to show you

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VOldiyyYEkM

Status Ailments

Snooze or Sweet Breath - Puts a party member to sleep or all. Sadly this prevents them from fighting. It also removes any Psyche up move you used previously. It eventually wears off during battle. Or when an enemy attack them that can also wake them up.

Spells and items you can use to wear it off faster - Greater Panacea and Tingle spell

Fuddle - Your character will be confused and can attack both foe and ally. It sometimes wears off on its own. But my best advice is to get the item to take it off sooner or a spell. But if you don't do this quickly it can lead your character to be paralysed. Or if you are lucky an enemy will attack you bringing your mind back to normal.

Spells and items you can use to wear it off faster -
Greater Panacea

Paralysed -
The Character is unable to act as in can't fight at all and no action can be done based on fighting wise and help as well. This also removes any psyche up that you stored to attack any enemy. If all party members are paralyzed, you will not get an game over like in the other previous games. It eventually wear off during battle. So its quite annoying when then move happens. When it does act fast!

Spells and items you can use to wear it off faster - Wears off after a battle, Moonwort Bulb, Rose-Wort, Moon's Mercy, Lesser Panacea and Greater Panacea.

Dazzle - One of your party members gets temporarily blinded, and has a hard time hitting a target with attacks. It eventually wears off during battle it depends though. The more the enemy casts on that single character the more blinded they get which makes it impossible to hit. They can still hit when they are blinded but it depends. And if I can remember the more attacks your blinded member does the more clearer his/her sight becomes breaking out from that on their own.

Spells and items you can use to wear it off faster - Wears off after battle, Greater Panacea.

Fizzle - This spell doesn't allow you cast any magic. And with that cannot cast any spells. This eventually wears off during battle.

Spells and items you can use to wear it off faster -
Wears off after battle, Greater Panacea.

Poisoned -
During battle when someone is poisoned and the battle ends. When you walk around you receive more damage as each walk step you take. Which will less your health. So make sure to heal it off or use an item too. And sadly this doesn't wear off on its own.

Spells and items you can use to wear it off faster -
Antidotal Herb, Strong Antidote, Special Antidote, Lesser Panacea, Greater Panacea, Squelch spell, Purification from a church.

Envenomated - This basically links to what I said about poison, its really dangerous and doesn't wear off.

Cursed - Your character loses a turn. And it will remove any store Psyche up move you wanted to use to damage your enemy. It wears off after a loss of turn or so it depends.

Spells and items you can use to wear it off faster - Greater Panacea.

There is a different Cursed effect - Which is received from equipping certain equipment you brought from the weapon shop, found somewhere or got as a gift. The only way to remove the curse is by going to a church and asking for Benediction. Hero cannot be cursed in this way. Since he is immune to it and all.

Dead - When your character dies he or they can't do anything in battles even if there are like 2 people still alive the only way to revive them back to life is using a certain item and spells to do that.

Spells and items you can use to wear it off faster - Yggdrasil Leaf, Angel Cheese, Zing spell (this spell isn't always helpful since sometimes it works while at other times it doesn't) Kazing spell, use of the Staff of Resurrection, Kerplunk spell (I would not suggest this move at all...because it makes you to sacrifice a party members life for another.) also using Resurrection from a church will help.

Also another thing some Accessories can prevent some status ailments. Hope that helps.

There also still some thing's I need to explain. This game has a night and day thing. And you really need to be careful. When facing monsters the day monsters are easier to manage. The night ones however are not they are a lot more stronger. But they do hold a lot of exp points to lv up more. Just make sure you have enough healing herb on hand. If you dunno what I mean by that I'll be explaining that one in a bit. So when you save the game it will be day again before night time decides to come around. Also in this game when you go into houses you can look into cupboards and look at books as well. These do help in ways you get either an item, armor, or weapon maybe. There are rare ones you can find. But ones you will find regularly. Also you can go down into wells, there you can find some treasure or items. And from some animals you can collect items like milk from cows when you see them.

When you press circle you will get to see the main menu and other things as well to explore. And when you press select this comes up. It’s a battle record page and among other things. There are so many selections you can do with this game you can even talk to your party members by pressing the start button. They can help you give hints and remind you of your next destination.

Ok with that done let's move on onto your quest!

The Journey Begins

Farebury

So there will be an opening to the game after some cutscenes and whatnot. Afterwards trode will help by saying what you need to do next. Before that I need to show you have to save your game for when you need too. This was a little funny to me of how I came across this. Apparently you have to save the game by going into a church. There are other things you can do there as well which will help. Here is a picture of what you will see when coming across a priest or a sister of the church.

Also here are a few things you should know about.

Confession – Is for saving the game.

Divination – Is to tell when you hit your next level and how many exp point you have to go to reach it.

Resurrection – Is to bring back party members to life. Sadly....this will cost money so. Make sure not to die so often in battles. Also the money count for this will get higher to pay. Oh yeah! When you die your characters would be in coffins.

Purification – Is to heal any status your party has come across while in battles.

Benediction –
Is to lift curses. You will come across that when facing dead priests later in the game.

There are some other few notes to take in. There will be places you can rest your party to heal them. Buy weapons, armor and items. There are also pubs as well. I've screenshot them for you to see so that you know when you enter into any town or city you'll be able to find them and go there quickly.

After that you need to find an old man by the name of Master Rylus. It will be confusing at first to know. You'll need to go to the pub first when you go to the pub there you will unlock something else to further into the story. You need to talk to this man by the name of *The Great Kalderasha* as you approach him he would be talking to the bartender about something or someone and that happens to be Master Rylus. Sadly you find out that Master Rylus is dead and was killed in a fire. When that ends go up and talk to him. When all of that is done some guy with blond hair say there is a monster in their town. Go and investigate sadly one way has been cut off so you'll have to go the long way to find out what it is. Here is the route to take If you get stuck

Sadly it would be trode that they meant as the monster. These people are mean so. They drive you guys out of their town rudely. After that king trode would ask about Master Rylus like if you found out anything about him. When that happens press yes. With sadly nothing to gain from the town you guys start to leave. But stopped when a voice calls out. It appears to be a young woman she asks for a favour. She introduces herself her name is Valentina. The daughter of the great fortune-teller Kalderasha. She says to go to her town its by a well at the far end of her town. It will be tricky to find so I will help guide you there. Trode says that you will have to give her a helping hand. Hero asks if trode will come along and he says he will stay outside with the princess so that no more stir of trouble will be made. So after the convo make your way back into farebury to find her home.

As you enter into the house you will see that she is alseep. Wake her up. And she will start to explain why she asked for your help. She will start to talk about the crystal ball. But it would be a bit confusing when she asks if she wants you for her to explain from the beginning say yes. Her father was once a famous fortune-teller, and he used to help people with things, lost treasure missing people. There was nothing that he couldn't help with. One day he lost his powers. So what he foretold was now things that was untrue. It was because he stopped using his real crystal ball. The one you see before you isn't a real one. And...this is when her father steps into the house.

So Kalderasha will says whatever she has asked of you not to do it. And will ask her to see you to the door. Valentina will ask you if you can go and find the crystal ball for her father so that he can retrieve his powers back. Say yes. She will be ecstatic you say yes. Then she will say she dreamt that there is a crystal ball hidden deep inside a cave near the waterfall. This would be to the south of town. So after the convo. Gear up save if you have too then head south to exit the town. Sadly the gate to the south is closed during the night time. But during the day its opened. Go through the front to report back to trode with what happened. So a small cutscene will happen after that you will rest up in the inn. And then head to the south gate to get to the waterfall cave. There is something you should know. From time to time when you sleep at the inn you will wake up in the middle of the night to see trode trying to fix something. This will keep happening until he has fixed it. That will all be explained when the time comes.

Preparing for the Waterfall Cave

Make sure that you train before you go to the cave. Its always good to train. Because with any RPG game there are bosses. So train before going to the waterfall cave because I guarantee the waterfall cave monsters are going to be hard to fight if you don't train properly. Also to lure out stronger monsters to gain more exp for your party go into the deep part of the grasses which would look like some forests in a way. When you think you have trained up well enough take the road you see before you to the waterfall cave.

And you will get a reminder of when your health is low and what you should do. This will come up.

Monsters found in this region day or night

Slime - A very weak enemy but watch out further in the game when you see all 10 of them. They will join together to make a more powerful foe.

Candy Cat - This is not your normal average cat it has a long tongue out from its mouth. This enemy doesn't always attack but at times it does.

Lips - When they do the move by licking your face one of your party members will get goosebumps preventing them from having their next turn until it wears off on its own.

Dracky - A bat monster has no abilities and just attacks.

Satyr - Watch out when he plays *counting sheep* on his horn it causes sleep. There will be at times your party won't be affected by it.

Capsichum - These enemies look like peppers that you eat don't let the fool you though they are not easy to beat when you are at a low level. Also another thing you need to watch out is their spell called *Sap* that basically lowers your defence so watch out when that happens. It also depends at random numbers how much your defence lowers by

Bunicorn - At first these guys are really annoying to beat so watch out for their attacks because its powerful when you are not trained well enough.

Firespirit -
These guys can cast a spell called *Frizz* which is a small fire frizzyball so watch out when that happens.

Bubble Slime -
Can poison you so watch out when it does use magic or an item to heal. Its body is made out of poison slime as a whole.

Dancing Devil - This guy may look funny, and make you laugh in the most oddest ways, but don't let his funny looks deceive you. When he uses he move called *Sultry dance* this can make one of your party members to dance and miss a turn. It eventually wears off on its own in the middle of battles.

Sultry Moves
This move will be used by most enemies you will encounter further in the game. Some will be different while some others will be a same. So take note on that.

The Waterfall Cave

Monsters found in this cave
Slime
Dracky
Firespirit

Mischievous Mole - These guys are also annoying to deal with when they are overpowering you level wise. You need to watch out as this enemy uses *Psyche up* so when that happens be quick to finish them once and for all.

Mecha-Mynah - It uses *Accelerate* to boosten its speed so watch out he will attack you a lot more than you. So defeat this enemy as soon as.

Bubble Slime - Can poison you so watch out when it does use magic or an item to heal. Its body is made out of poison slime as a whole.

Dancing Devil

Skipper - Now these guys are annoying to deal with. Watch out for his *Decelerate* move it will lower your defence badly. And this move lower defences all party members.

Optional – Hammerhood -
Now for this it's either you fight him or don't. So make sure to answer wisely with his question towards you. When he asks are you brave enough to take me on and you say no. He will engage in a battle with you. But if you say yes he will grant you access to go further into the cave.

Now when you have entered the cave it should look this

So explore the cave and train as well because you need to train. There are some treasures to find in the cave also. When you feel you have trained enough proceed further into the cave to find the crystal ball. So when you go in to explore you should come to seeing the first chest ahead of you it will contain a map to help you to get to where you need to go. So you should get to a place like this

This little guy you see will be blocking the way and you will have to fight him in order to go through the path further in. Or not. If you say yes to that you are brave. Then he will let you through. If not then you have to end up battling him. When you have managed to do that proceed on. You should come to a path that splits into 2 first of all go to the path on the left as you will see a slime

Talk to it and he will say there is a dead end and not to go there. He will ask if you believe him. Say yes. And in return he will give you a good telling. He says there is a treasure chest in that dead end. So after finish talking to the slime go after the treasure and in there will be copper sword. Equip it to hero since it would be a much stronger sword to use. Then head back to the split path and go to the right. Then you should come to some stairs that will lead you to the lower floor. When you come into another room the music will change this will only happen when an upcoming boss comes up. Head to the waterfall and you should come across seeing a crystal ball. Reach out to get it and something will happen. A small cutscene will happen. And you will come across a fish like thing called *Geyzer* he is the master of the waterfall. He will start to accuse you thinking you were the one who dumped the crystal ball into his waterfall. He will ask if the crystal ball belongs to you. Even though its not. Just select yes. And then he will say he will teach you a lesson you will never forget. Then the first boss fight begins.

Boss fight 1
Geyzer Master of the Waterfall
His Attacks
Cursed Mist
Slashes with his claws
Attacks with his tail

So for this you need to psych up hero and yangus or one of them while the other is on attacking and healing. Just make sure its balanced out so then you don't end up letting them both die. Make sure to watch your defence as well. A good thing to know as well is that hero is immune to curses so he never ever gets cursed unlike the others do. When you have defeated him and you will know trust me. You will gain a lot of exp and gold coins as well.

After the fight there will be a cutscene on some important things to do with the storyline. When that has ended leave the cave and head back to farebury where Valentina will be waiting for you to bring the crystal ball back to her father. Once you head back to the house another cutscene will happen Kalderasha will be in the house while Valentina is nowhere to be found. So go and talk to Kalderasha to activate the cutscene. The talking will wake up Valentina and she will convince her father who is not really her birth father to use his crystal ball again. After that cutscene hero and yangus will sleep over at their house. When you have rested and it is morning move hero to wake him up and then head down the stairs to see how Kalderasha is doing. As you will see he is doing a lot more better than he was before. Then he will see through the crystal ball and tell you where you'll next be headed in the main storyline. And other surprising things as well you'll get to know about. Go and meet trode outside as he will still be waiting for you with medea. Once the cutscene is over you will head to your next destination. Go to as if you are heading back to the water fall. If you can remember you saw it the first time around and its straight. There is a path to the left. That is where you need to go next.

Jessica's Unfortunate Situation

Monsters found in this region

Bodkin Archer - Use ordinary hitting attacks and, this guy can use a magic called *Buff* its basically a move that doubles your enemies defences and that is something you do not want. So kill this guy as quickly as possible.

Skipper - Quick enemy for you to face and also uses as spell called *Accelerate*

Drackmage - These guys will come to annoy you. They can use *Kazap* which lowers your defences.

Beetleboy - Their attacks are quite brutal so watch out and don't die in any means, necessary.. He can also use an attack with its horn that will knock over your party member to the ground. So it will make them lose a turn it depends on when they can get back up and join in the battle again.

Funghoul - This enemy can use *Sweet Breath* on all of your party members at the
same time. Which will put them to sleep so watch out for that.

Fencing Fox - Uses a spell called *Fizzle* which of course doesn't allow you to perform any spells.

Hammerhood - This enemy can also use *Psyche up* as well so watch out and beat them down quick.

Alexandria

This new story section is kinda sad. When you come to see Alexanderia on the left and you should see it enter the town. You will come across two boys name *Bangerz and Mash* Kinda reminds you of sausages and mash right? Anyways. They will block your path and try to battle you. But is stopped by one of the townspeople an old lady. She will apologize on the behalf of their actions. Take her advice and talk to the village people of what has happened. Once that’s done if its night time then head to the inn to sleep. When the day comes head to a giant looking house. You'll see it. And then talk to the residence people there the staff. Head up the stairs and then talk to some woman sitting on a chair. This woman will introduce herself and is Jesscias mother. Then talk to Bangerz and Mash next they both will be blocking Jessica's room on her orders. This is where you'll be a bind to know what to do next. There is a door not so far off from Jesscias room head in there then head up the long stairs. Talk to the maid and then send munchie through a mouse hole.

Mini Playthrough as Munchie

Ok, so you can control munchie this time. Try and get down by using the slope the rear of the stairs if you don't know what I mean which looks like a slope. Then you you'll find out that Jessica is not in her room. She has left a letter. You will see a long broom climb up onto it to get onto the table. Take the letter and get back to Hero. And that will be the end of the playthrough as Munchie.

Once Hero has got Munchie again head back to Bangerz and Mash to show them the letter that she has left. Once banger find out she is missing. He will take you to tower of Alexandra. This will be a good way to train to get more powerful things for your party. So when ready head back out and take a left. You should see the tower before you so keep going straight. You will come to a path that takes a right. You wouldn't need to go through there yet. Keep going until you have reached the tower. Once you reached it the door will be closed. So Bangerz will demonstrate to you how to open it. Funny as it sounds it opens from the bottom. With that done Banagerz will return back to town after helping you.

Tower of Alexandra

Monsters found in this tower

Bubble Slime – Its the same as before make sure not to get poisoned.

Drackmage

Beetleboy – Watch out for when it does its horn move which of course will knock one of your party members over and make them miss a few turns.

Imp - Watch out. This one uses *Thwack, Kaboom, Kamikazee and Cool Breath* as well. It may be tiny but this thing packs in quite a punch.

Funghoul – It uses sweet breath as you know.

Healslime – Yeah.....these guys are annoying to deal with because once you attack them they will start healing themselves so just end them very quickly.

Frogface – Now for this one. You really need to be careful. When you first encounter it. It looks nothing more like a frog who is weak. But it has a weird looking face on its back. So when you attack it once it will switch over to this

And in this stage its magic is very, very dangerous. It can kill you easily because you didn't see it coming. Don't underestimate this enemy. Best way to go around beating this baddie is using by Psyching up to 20 and hit. It will die easily so then you don't go through stress. Now the tower is a maze but I'll do what I can to explain. Since you can easily get lost. And because the monsters here are strong you are most likely to die, if you don't know where you are going. When you first head up the stairs there will be a door to your right.

Sadly this door is locked and will need to find another door to open from to access it from the inside. Which would be this door here

Once inside go down the stairs and through a path over a small river you will see another door that you need to go through. You'll be back outside again. And you will see a treasure chest. That holds the map for the tower. So you have a good idea where you are and where you need to be headed next. Ok so once you got the map head to the right and as you come through a corner you should see another pair of stairs to climb. The first door you see to your left will be a blockage so don't go to that door. Go to the next one you see which is a little further out. Ok once you enter the door you should be in this room.

On the left you will see another door. Remember the first door at the beginning that was locked? That is the door go up to it and unlock the door. So it will be now in access to use. So when you need to go and heal your party back in Alexandra then you can do that by going through that door. Don't worry it won't lock after you leave through it. There you should see two ladders go down to the bottom one first. Because you will see barrels and vases to break. Also a treasure chest to open. When done go up the ladder and up the ladder again. You will see another door go through it, then you will be outside again. There will be a door in the not so distance go to that door. Ok you should be in this room when you arrive.

It looks a little confusing to do. But don't let that bother you in the slightest. Its actually easy to do once you know what you are doing. And of course the amounts of replays you played with this game for you to remember what to do. Ok so you will see 2 faces. When you touch one of them it shifts making you to appear on the other side. There will be stairs to climb so climb up. Ok when you get to this place.

There will be two door shifts for you to use. The path on the left will lead you to a dead end but there will be some vases and stuff to break so still explore that part of the room. The door on the right is actually the right path you need to take. There will be another slide door for you to go through. Go up the stairs. Here is something you can go through the slide door or go the long way around it. When you have come to a decision take the path you wish. And you will see another pair of stairs to go up on. In this place you will see another slide door. Use it as there will be a vase to break and a treasure chest to open. When you have done that. Go back out then turn to your left and keep going to the end of the room till you come where you saw the steps. Take the steps up.

You should come to a sort of peaceful room like. To trigger the next story go up to the angel and press x then Jessica will come in. And assume you are her brothers killer she will attack you. Then a voice will appear stopping her in her tracks. It would be her brother talking from the statue. And this scene is indeed sad because of the music and all. Yeah this scene is really sad. Alistair will explain how his death occurred and what happened. So after all the emotional staff finishes. Head back to the village. Go to the inn and Bangerz will be waiting for you there. He paid for you to stay at the inn so it will be free with no money coming out from your pocket to pay. After you are well rested head back to Jesscias home to go and talk to her. Go up the stairs and you will see her confronting her mother. When that scene is over Jessica will leave the house. So go and follow after her. Ask Bangerz where she went. Which is *Port Prospect* that will be your next destination. Get what you need. Because it is going to be a very long journey to get there. Once you leave the village when ready. Head as if you are going back to tower of Alexandra but take a right that I mentioned before. That route will lead you to Port Prospect.

Port Prospect

So head out of Alexandra go straight and when the split path comes along head to the right. And like I said it’s a really long journey to get there. So make sure you we very much well rested and stocked up.

Monsters found in this region

Bodkin Archer

Drackmage – And again careful when facing these guys. Sometimes they come in groups of 4.

Beetleboy
Funghoul
Fencing Fox
Hammerhood

Jailcat – Uses *Crack* an ice spell move so watch out for that it might take you by surprise.

Frogface

Spiked Hare –
They will be slightly stronger from the previous ones you faced at farebury. So its always good to be on guard. And also will use Psyche up.

See Urchin - They are very fragile in a way so.....they are quite easy to beat.

Man o' War - Pretty much like healslimes. So there is not really much to say.

Yabby - A crab like monster which claws and such. He does a spell called *Drain Magic* so watch out some of your mp or most will be sucked out.

Ok after finally reaching Port Prospect. Rest up if your party members are at low health. After that save the game and then find Jessica she should be in the port area. If you are confused on that this is where she is

Enter in and got on the right until you see Jessica talking to some man. Go up and talk to her. She wants to go into see but apparently as you heard some sea monster is causing havoc. Which means it will be your next boss to fight. Train up well before seeing Jessica again and heading out to sea. To face the net boss. If you dunno where the church is. Its onto the right when you come into the town. If you are still not sure here it is

So go there to save the game before carrying on with anything else. When ready to fight you guys will aboard the ship to meet with the sea monster that has been causing trouble. Also they play a bit of the opening song while you guys are on the ship. Which I find pretty cool. Anyways not after too long you sailed you will encounter the sea monster named *Khalamari* he is your next boss to fight so get ready!

Boss fight 2
Khalamari the Sea Monster
His attacks
Fire breath
Mows down attack on all party
Squash attack like a flat pancake

Just have hero heal while yangus is on all out attack as in using Psyche up. It will do the damage and since it is balancing out. Don't get hero attacking not unless all of their health is full. And the battle will come to an end after a few hits from Yangus.

Khalamari will explain what happened saying a jester walked on the sea and on top of his minions as well. That is the same guy you are trying to hunt down. You will head back to Port Prospect to make the final preparations before leaving. When you are ready go and speak to jesscia again and you will finally get her to be an ally on your team! So once that is over you will be on your way to head to your next destination which would be
*Peregrin Quay* poor trode was kinda of left behind but he and medea managed to catch up. Now you will be watching a scene how yangus came to meet hero. So afterwards explore the ship and then go and find where trode is. And he will talk to you about something called *The Alchemy Pot* this is the thing he has been fixing while you were sleeping in the inns. He will start to explain what this pot is. Since its not any normal pot. This pot is very special it makes you to mix different kinds of weapons, armor and items. Making them more powerful. I'll be doing a list of it later to show you so when you get it yourself. You know the right ingredients to use to mix.

Here are Jesscias skills

Jessica's Spells List

For Field

Evac – Is learned at level 11 this spell you an use to evac from most places like caves for instance.

Kazing - Is learned when skill points for staff has reached staff 100. A very useful spell to bring any dead party back to life. And without fail as well.

For Attacks

Frizz – Is already learned at the start.

Sap – Is already learned at the start.

Accelerate – Is learned when skill points for Staff has reached staff 3. A very helpful spell that increases speed for all party members.

Kasap – Is learned when skill points Staff has reached staff 7. A very good spell to have against enemies. But it won't work for most bosses sadly.

Crack – Is learned at level 10 a good spell to have when needing of attacking.

Sizz –
Is learned at level 11 a good spell to use to burn your enemies to crisp.

Snooze – Is learned at level 12 another good spell to have to put your enemies to sleep.

Bang – Is learned at level 14

Crackle –
Is learned at level 16 this move is basically an upgrade of crack so it gets stronger. And when you use this spell it does a lot more damage than the other one.

Oomph –
Is learned at level 19 One of the best spells needed to have as soon as. This is very helpful in many ways. Against powerful wild monsters and bosses as well.

Sizzle – Is learned at level 20 this is an upgrade version of sizz so it will hit 10 times better.

Frizzle –
Is learned at level 21 a good fireball attack not one of the most reliable ones but does help in other small ways.

Bounce –
Is learned when skill points Staff has reached staff 21. Now this spell I don't really recommend you to use not unless you have health potions with you. Or not unless its really needed. What it does it bounces both parties spells. Such as enemy and party.

Boom – Is learned at level 23 this spell attacks all enemies.

Insulate –
 Is learned at level 25

Fuddle – Is learned when skill points for sex has reached sex appeal 26. This is a very good spell to have as fuddle confuses your enemies.

Magic Barrier –
Is learned when skill points for staff has reached staff 31.

Kasnooze – Is learned when skill points for sex has reached sex appeal 68. This puts all of your enemies to sleep.

Peregrin Quay

When you have reached this place. There will be shops around so make sure you buy things if you have the money if not go and train to gain. Also I'll be saying the few ingredients you can work with now to put in The Alchemy Pot. It really does help and go a long way for your party members so make sure to use it from time to time. When you have got what you needed before we head to the next destination I'll do the pot first.

The Alchemy Pot

First we are going to make a thief's key. It can open most chests but not all of them. You will need a very special key to open all chests in the game. That can be made but not as of now sadly. Second you are going to need to make Jessica a more powerful weapon snakeskin whip. These are the only two I will put down for now.

Bronze knife and iron nail makes - Thief's Key
Leather whip and scale shield makes – snakeskin whip

The Templar Knight that Looks like Trunks

Be careful monsters in this area are annoying to deal with so you may most likely die without knowing it. So be on your toes. We don't want any party member dying now do we? Oh yeah another thing Jessica as you will see is on level 9. Since not so long ago she joined. Make sure to keep an eye on her health as she is weak for now and can easily die. Train her up well and she will become powerful. Just make sure she doesn't die.

Monsters found in this region

She-Slime - Its pretty much the same with slime their attacks are not so powerful.

Lump Mage – It uses *Fuddle* so watch out.

Winky – Not much to say about, but is quick on attacks.

Chainine – This one is a dog but very vicious when in battle. It also uses this move called *Hurl collar* It makes one of your party members not to be able to move from its grip.

Giant Moth – Can use some spells like *Heal* and use *Whoosh* to hit your whole party so watch out on that.

Dingaling - This enemy can be annoying to deal with. It can do certain spells that can annoy you even more. It calls for more back up as in dingaling. If you allow this to continue on further. Once there is 11 or 12 of them they will play this horrible tune that will lead to your death so don’t let it happen.

Jargon - This guy carries a big jar of a sort and with that can use it to attack you. Or to heal itself. Most known attacks it uses is *Fire Breath, Heal, Belly Attack and Sand Attack* this move causes your party to go blind and will miss their attacks when trying to attack him. This enemy is annoying to deal with.

Bullfinch - When you encounter this one it will be asleep sometimes. While at other times it will be awake. Yeah this guys attacks are not very pleasant to feel either so watch out on that

Scorpion - Uses a spell called *Buff* which will raise their defences. And also when they attack using their tails. One of the party member can get poisoned from that.

Morphean Mushroom - So when this one attacks your party member with a normal attack it can put them to sleep. And it can also use sweet breath as well like the other previous mushroom enemies do.

Treeface - This one I am not gonna lie will kinda make you laugh or look at them and see that they are evil. To be honest they are evil looking trees. They can heal themselves. Also they can use *Weird Dance* like some other monsters which will as I said before decrease your mp.

So head to your next destination people said which is *Maella Abbey* when still at the port of Peregrin Quay straight ahead you should see a door open it. Inside is in inn so you can rest up before carrying on. When you are well prepared and happy with the things you have. Leave Peregrin Quay and head for Maella Abby through the other door which is easy to see.

Maella Abbey

When you arrive you should see a very nice looking bridge anyway. Go inside. When you are inside go to the door that is on the right. Its not so far off you will be able to see it as soon as you get into the church. Ok when you have done that turn left and straight on go to the templer knights that is blocking the door. That will trigger a cutscene for you to be able to proceed on with the storyline. They will stop you. And you know people like them they quick to assume you are a baddie which of course you are not. They be rude to you and then. A young man will appear. This guys name is *Marcello* the leader of the templer knights. He will apologise for his mens behaviour. He will explain why they acted the way they did. So with that leave the Abby and head for somewhere else. Exit where you came from. You will come back here later on anyways. So head out on left when you are out of the Abby. And head for a place called *Simpleton* you should come to a spilt path that goes left or straight. The other is right. You need to go to the one on the right because that is where Simpleton is.

Simpleton

When you have entered this place rest up if you want too. This village is only little so there is no shops. Just an inn, pub and church. The next place you need to go into is the pub. There you will meet someone who will trigger the story mode. As soon as you enter the pub look to your right. You see the guy with red clothes on? Go up and talk to him. And up close he looks like trunks from dbz. Anyways there will be a cutscene. This cutscene is actually pretty funny. Its something you would want to see. Afterwards a fight will break out. Then the guy will take you and Jessica outside for a talk. He will soon introduce his name as Angelo and he is a templer and lives in Maella Abbey. So head back there to meet Angelo to give him his ring back.

So go back to where you met those guards again. They will let you pass since you have Angelo's ring. This will be a little confusing to do. But you need to go to where the templers keep prisoners. As soon as you come through this area go to the right and turn again. You should see a dark path that leads to the prisons. So make your way through the corners until you come to a door. Open it that would be the interrogation room. You see Marcello talking to Angelo about his behaviour and such. Since its very poor saying he is disgracing and putting shame on the templers with what he does. When that scene has ended leave the prison room. When you leave the room go through this door

Talk to the guards in the way of the bridge and then head back inside. That will trigger for further into the storyline. Angelo will appear in the hall. He will ask what you are doing. And Jessica as usual will say. But then he will mention that a jester has gone to see the abbot. We know who that is right? That’s the guy we are after. So Angelo says as you can see there are guards blocking the way so. There is no way in. But Angelo will explain there is another way in. Through the back the long way. But that will mean you have to go back outside. Angelo explains how to get there. Like as if you are heading to simpleton but turn left near the river and keep going until you come to a ruin or see it. Its an old Abby that was used before the new one. This will be an underground passageway leading to the abbots room. So once that is done head out and go to the old Abby be prepared. There you will face monsters and another boss that is coming up real soon. If you are having trouble I'll guide you with this screenshot. Hope it helps!

When you finally see a road path on the floor, it means you are on the right track to getting to the old Abby. Keep following that road path. Once you reach the old Abby you'll know you see ruins. When you do use Angelo's ring to open the underground pathway to get into the old Abby.

Ruined Abbey

Now its kinda sad looking since it has been abandoned and all. Make sure you are well prepared to face the monsters in this area. Also you'll be able to have an easier way to get more money. Instead of struggling for it. Two monsters can help you with that. And it’s the best way to go around it. So everyone is happy.

Monsters found in this cave

Drackyma - Uses a spell move *Snooze* which effects all party members. And it also heals itself as well.

Bag o' Laughs – This monster can help you earn more money. Has a lot of good items on hold as well when you beat them. And they do some attacks on you like *Weird dance* which can decrease some of your mp, *Frizz* *Fizzle* which of course you know can prevent you from casting any spells to attack or to heal as well. I forgot to say they can call for back up so monsters can join in battle and help them. Such as healsime.

Skeleton –
This one is another bother to deal with. Having a hard and slicing up your party as if you are chopped liver. Their attacks are powerful as I said if you are very much under leveled. You are going to have a pretty tough time facing these guys. They will take off their heads and throw them at you which is their most powerful attack. And use their sword to attack you as well

Metal Slime –  In this domain you get to chance and encounter a rare monster here. NOW for this one it won't always be easy to beat. And also it will flee from you quickly. It uses frizz. And this is a very special monster why? Because you would not normally always come and run into these. Here is another great thing about them. They have very little health and a lot of exp and I mean a lot around 1380 I think. And when you try to hit them it won't be easy. So here are some attacks I recommend you to use

Helm splitter  It causes very good damage.
Hatchet Man Is another good one. Its specifically for critical hits. So this move will really help. At the beginning it might not and you feel it is. Useless keep skilling up axe weapons for it to gain more ability to be able to do more critical damage.

Yeah another thing...you'll only be hitting ones with this enemy if you are lucky enough you might get a 2. But mostly its one hits against this metal slime. And most of the time your attacks won't be effective at it sadly. So you better quickly end this one then gain a lot of exp. Another thing the metal slime can stay in battle for longest 3 of your turns or 2. The lucky one is 3 because they tend to run away pretty quickly so if you are lucky take the time to do what you can to defeat it.

Flyguy – These guys will be a bother to deal with so kill them as quickly as you can. They can also use the spell *fizzle* on you so keep an eye out on that. The more they cast fizzle the more it will further not allow you to cast any magic. First one will say you are prevented from casting any magic. The second one will say you are prevented further from casting magic. And the third one will say unable to cast magic.

Mummy Boy –
This enemy is really strong at first if you are under leveled. He will use a curse move on your party member they will be cursed and not being able to attack and miss a turn. So watch out for that and be prepared. The move is curse orb and will curse one of your party members.

Walking Corpse – Now this one is the worse of them all like seriously the way it attacks. It will annoy you to the point you will go all out. So stay clear minded when facing this enemy. Also it uses cursed attack. So when it does watch out.

Make sure you train in the entrance part without going further. Since you'll will be able to come back to the area since and I hope you already have hero learn the move zoom? You should already have him learn that move. So it will save you time going back and forth if you get what I mean. When you are strong enough to explore then you can do it. If your party are still under leveled that means you need to train them around in one area not somewhere too far off so you can exit and be able to heal them at the inn.

If
Skeleton
Mummy boy
Walking corpse
Flyguy

Are too hard to do with first start off with the ones you are able to beat. Such as

Bag o' Laughs

This enemy is the easiest to beat. The exp gained is not to small so if you keep on facing them you will get stronger bit by bit. Don't ever face the ones I mentioned above if they come in groups of 5 only 4 and downwards will be the ones you'll be able to face and beat. This place as I said the old Abby is not that easy to maneuver so make sure you play out the best strategy that you have. Because trust me you will need it. When you think you are strong enough to explore then do so. As somewhere in this place your next boss will be waiting for you. And its not an easy one mind you. This one casts spells mostly so watch out for that. I will elaborate more on that when we reach it. For now focus on training and getting stronger. Especially for Jessica since she's the one who can easily die and that is something we do not want. When Jessica is dead its not good considering she has the best spells to attack. So you can use that to your advantage. Make sure you train Jessica well enough to the point she can withstand attacks. Because that is the thing she lacks on the most with. So build that up if you do it won't come to the point of her dying in most battles.

Ok when you are ready head down the room further in you should see step areas one to the left and the other to the right. Take the stairs on the right since it is the right way. The left will just be a little longer course for you. And you should come to a big wide open space. Head onto the path you should see and there will be another pair of stairs to go down too. Before doing through there. Turn to your left and you should see 2 treasure chests. The chest on the right is a map. While the chest to the left....is this guy

Looks like a funny little box now doesn't it? I thought about that at first when I first encountered this.

Cannibox – This is another great enemy to encounter that will help you gain even more money. It will be annoying to beat though. The main thing is its teeth...it will do some serious damage to you. So watch out on that attack. It uses *Sizz* which attacks all party. Basically its another fire attack.

So make your way down the stairs. Now you have the map it will help you on where you need to go. But at times there will be more than one path to go into. There would be the correct path and one that deceives you. You should see another pair of stairs opposite to you. Take that path first before going the other way that leads one floor down. Reason why? There are cupboards. So items will be in that area. There will be a ladder for you to climb down on. I know you say this aww books? I don't need them! Since you now have the alchemy you need to read a lot of books to be able to gain new recipes. Also you'll get to read on what happened to the old Abby. When you have done reading. Continue on a path you see to explore that area. At the end you will come to a small room place with two gray vases to break. In one of the vases you will find a special item called *Mini Medal* I'll explain about that when the time comes to do so. Exit out of the place go back up the ladder and take the other route you saw that leads down a floor. Hold on wait a second. I forgot. There is another room. Its not seen if you don't notice it. It is to your right a room with a chest and 2 doors opposite each other. And since you have thief's key you can now open the chest. You gain a bronze shield from this chest.

So if you go to the door on the left there is nothing to take since its filled with blockage. The door on the right....actully saves you time go onto the path and you will find yourself in another place. Remember that big hall place? The first steps you see leading down is the one you are seeing up. Explore the other room you see opposite you first before heading down those steps. Go to the right to go around the baseline of the steps. It’s the only way to get to that room. In this room there is nothing to get, a blocked room. So go back on route and go further down the stairs. Careful when you reach the ground level. You should be seeing this place next

If you walk on them with every step your party members health will decrease. Which is something you don't want. Unless if you have trained a lot I only suggest this. If you have trained to the point that your party member hp is a lot then you can walk through it then heal afterwards. If not then you need to go around it. By going to the path on the right. So that when the time comes to face the boss you are not low on health. On the right you should see pathways to help you go across the purple poison pool. When you have made your way around go up the stairs continue on route till you see this place

Don't go straight on as beyond that door your boss is waiting for you. On the right and left there are some paths you can take to explore. Go to the left first. In this room will be a cupboard and 3 barrels to break. In the middle barrel you get *waterweed mold* on the left you get another mini medal, and as for the last one there are no items. There will be nothing in the cupboard. With that leave the room and explore the other one. The other room is a bit creepy to look at. But there will be 2 gray vases to break which is on your left. In one of them you will obtain some gold. With that done go ahead and prepare yourself to face the boss of the old Abby.

Boss fight 3
Long Lost Priest Of The Old Abby Called Tourched Soul
His Attacks and Spells
Calls for back up
Sizzle
Curse Orb Attacks

With this I had hero on heal and attack. Yangus on psych up to beat up the tourchered soul. And Jessica on spells and attack. So this way it’s a perfect balance so that none of your party members die. This is my strategy of how to beat him. When it comes to forth. Sometimes I switch have them all on heal and defence. Son when I am ready to go all out attacking again I will. Get Jessica to use sap on the tourched soul to decrease his defence. And use accelerate to speed up your party members which will help out as well. Two Psyche up from yangus will do the damage, and if you have been using sap to decrease its defence. It will raise your chances higher to beat him faster.

So another cutscene will happen and that poor torcched soul can finally join the others and rest in peace. So in a way you helped him out! Before you leave behind you will be 2 cupboards one on the far left and the other onto the right. You can go to the one on the right just heal after stepping into some poison pool. There will be nothing in these two cupboards and with that leave the old Abby with the path you saw before you. When you get to the end there will be a ladder so climb up on it.

You will be back in Maella Abbey. Just outside the abbots residence. There will be two barrels to break one has another mini medal in it. When you go through and around you see the guards that blocked your way are now on the floor. Go up and talk to one of them apparently the abbots life is in danger! Go to the abbots residence to go and check on the abbot. And you will find more guards laying on the floor. Go and talk to a few of them. And they are saying of this jester fellow and I am sure its who you are looking for. When done. Before going up the stairs as you can see there are a lot of books read them all before going up the stairs. Which is where the abbots room is. A small cutscene will happen. And you will see.... Dhoulmagus! He will be hovering or more like floating above the abbots feet. When he disappears go and wake the abbot. And when he talks to you. The templers the idiot's will assume you tried to kill him dhoulmagus played a part to frame you. This part gets annoying to deal with after that cutscene has ended. You will be in jail. First talk to yangus, then trode then Jessica. Then yangus again. And walk to the end of the jail room to trigger another cutscene.

Then Angelo comes around with keys to let you out. The guard upstairs will be sleeping due to Angelo's actions. He will lead you to a place that you can sneak out of the Abby. So you will come to this barn place after you have taken the secret passage Angelo showed you. Go outside. Sadly you'll see the bridge that leads to the abbots room on fire. Follow Angelo back to save the abbot. When you get to the bride that is still on fire. Run across it and another scene will happen Angelo will come and follow you. Go to where Angelo is holding a templer then when ready head up the stairs once again. This scene is another sad scene to watch.....

A World Map for a Party of Four

So after that sad scene you will be rested up from all that happened. Angelo will come in and say Marcello wants to see you in his office. That will be after you have spoke to yangus and Jessica. His office is blocked by two guards go and talk to them and they will let you pass. Go up and talk and it will trigger another scene. You will gain something very important Marcello will hand you *the world map* Which will make things easier for you on your journey. Before leaving make sure to read the book in his office. So go down the stairs to exit the Abby. And not to far along you will be stopped by Angelo by him blocking the door. You will gain him as your last ally!

Ok once you have Angelo well equipped. Go as if you are going back to simpleton but take a left turn instead. This will lead you to the right path you need to get to the next destination. You will come to another spilt path. Keep going straight because that right route make you to go back to simpleton the back way.  and this route should lead you to your next destination. *Riverside Chapel* You will come across some different enemies while some others stay the same here they are.

And this ends this part 1 of the Dragon Quest 8 Journey Of The Cursed King Walkthrough. Part 2 will be up when I will put it up. Can't say when. I hope this helps you guys out. But until then.

This is one of my favorite ps2 games ever, been trying to get the emulator working but dumb computer doesn't like running games well, any suggestions for new emulators/ways to play this? Don't have money for an actual copy and system sadly

twilight : oh my goodness....twilight? After many years you decided to return back?! First things first do you remember me at all? @.@

To answer your question. You will need of a very powerful computer that can run on ps2 emulator. Because its one of the hardest things to work out for. It may be because your computer isn't powerful enough to run it sadly. :/

My only suggestion, is to wait you have the money buy a ps2 and to get the game...

Yeah its been a long time, really stopped coming here after that whole Nintendo thing, but I'm starting to use it for let's play material for my youtube channel, but if you ever want to talk, ill be more than happy to play more game with you, in here or without vizzed. As for dragon quest, I have my friend's laptop and computer, they run the game with like 60-70 percent efficiency, might be able to test on the pc soon to see if that helps, I'm just broke as hell for the other option of buying the system. But yeah, let me know what you want to do in the future
