For Final Fantasy my favorite one is X for a variety of reasons. I loved many of the music tracks I really liked the story, BlitzBall is easily my favorite mini game in gaming history and one of my favorite voice actors is in the game also so that's a plus for me. When it comes to Final Fantasy, I feel that the story will male or break any game.

zander has already explained what I would had said. I would had gone for 9 but 10 has more...something in there that makes it so good to play really. I just love everything upon everything in that game. Its amazing its beautiful its...oh man I've ran out of words to say about it because its so hard to come up with a great one. So you should get what I mean. I've rinsed this game so many times, and in so many years that's how much I enjoy playing Final Fantasy X. XD

I'm going to go with VI. It may not be the biggest or most ambitious title in the series but its story and most importantly the characters grabbed me like no other Final Fantasy game. It's easily one of the best SNES games let alone SNES rpgs. I did enjoy X but at the same time some things in it fell flat for me. I never got the appeal of Blitzball since it doesn't seem particularly skill based and just wasn't that enjoyable to me. The progression system/tree is unnecessarily complicated looking and the character of Tidus never appealed to me that much even if I don't dislike him. As for VII while I've played it, I haven't really spent as much time with it as I have the other two so I don't really feel comfortable saying too much about it. I do like it and I get the feeling had I played more of it, it could've maybe been up there with VI for me but as it stands VI is my clear preference. Maybe I'll end up getting the PSN port or the remake of VII eventually. These 3 are the only Final Fantasy games I really liked that I've played.

Also worth mentioning is XIV: A realm reborn, but I prefer the single player games and since it's an mmo one can't really make a fair comparison. It's more of your traditional MMO which is good if that's what you're looking for or if you've ever wanted a Final Fantasy MMO since the storyline isn't that bad. I personally like MMOs that deviate more from the standard formula whenever I do play one so it wasn't really my cup of the tea, especially since the subscription fee make it one of the most expensive to play.

I think my personal favorite is 13, with 7 and then 10 being the next two in that order.

I loved everything about 13. The new battle system was incredible to me, completely revamping everything from the ground up. I loved how there were roles each character could use and switch to on the fly, not to mention how each character was more proficient in certain roles than the others. You always had to make sure your team was well balanced and could cover everything they needed to take down the enemies or bosses currently present. The leveling system was also simple, yet gave you the option to level each role individually, allowing you to build your characters as you saw fit. The game would also place a cap on how much you could level the characters until a certain part of the story was completed, not allowing you to simply grind for a while and then stomp everything in your path (but at the same time, any extra experience earned over that cap could still be used after the cap was raised, so nothing was ever wasted). The story was phenomenal, letting you experience your typical "saving the world" concept while still being extremely fresh and unique. Most people's complaint is how linear the story is, and the lack of communication with anyone outside of your party, but I actually loved how it was set up. There was more than enough character development inside the party which made up for their lack of interaction with anyone else. Also the way the characters were forced to interact and rely on one another was very interesting and written very well. The graphics and audio were absolutely top notch, which doesn't mean much by itself as long as it doesn't detract from the game as a whole, but being on the caliber they were added a huge bonus to the experience for me. Plus I loved how many optional "side quests" the game offered, even if all of them were simply hunting down a boss / mini-boss down and killing it. For most people this is a love it or hate it game, and I was one of those people who instantly fell in love with the title.

7 was an amazing experience overall. I loved the materia system, and would love to see another game from Square that uses the same concept. Being able to equip your own magic / abilities / summons like that, and level them up through use of their own separate exp points is something I love to see in an RPG. Plus it was really cool how you could pair certain materia together for an even stronger or special effect. The characters were interesting and their development through out the story was very well written, as well as executed. The story was awesome. Between everything that happened, I would think epic is the perfect way to describe it. Every time something huge would happen, you would think that was going to be the big problem you had to face in the game, and yet it would always be topped by something even more intense. Also, who can forget the chocobo racing and breeding? It was one of the best mini-games I've ever seen in a Final Fantasy title.

As for 10, I loved almost everything about it. The only thing I didn't like was Tidus. If he wasn't such a cry-baby the entire game, he would've been an alright character. Not only was he crying in every single flash back he had (and I mean literally EVERY SINGLE ONE), he whined the entire game about one thing or another. Okay, now that I've gotten that out of my system, on to what I did love about it lol. All of the voice acting was great. I loved how they planned the writing around the ability to still name Tidus whatever you wanted to, and none of the dialogue through out the game had to be changed whatsoever. Even though the characters were somewhat along the lines of your typical archetypes, they were still very interesting, and the dialogue they had was fun to listen to. The story was extremely unique, as well as the world it was placed in. I loved all the twists and spoilers I won't give away here lol. As annoying as he was to battle, Seymour was always one of my favorite villains for his calm and collected nature, as well as his resolve in pursuing what he wanted out of life. Although the battle system still followed the turn based formula, it also has an interesting spin to it, where depending on your actions it changed the order of who was going to be the next to make their move, as well as being able to see the order on the side of the screen. It was also cool to be able to switch party members on the fly as long as they weren't already KO'ed. Also, Auron is one of the coolest characters ever created

Well, sorry for rambling on for so long. I've said my piece about why I love the titles so much. Hope it wasn't too overwhelming for you to read lol

I happen to like Final Fantasy Tactics the most. Something about the difficulty that varies during each encounter, requiring more strategic planning than ordinary RPGs and just the way the story unfolds during these battles is nice. The plot was the strength of the game, being in-depth and with numerous plot twists. The spells and summoning visuals were actually pretty good as well. I played this game many times and in different ways, my wife watched so much she ended up trying to take over my PlayStation so she could play!

My favorite Final Fantasy titles? Oh man, that is a tough one.

Final Fantasy 6-This was an epic game throughout. You start small,as a brainwashed Terra, then meet up with Locke and you steadily grow your roster and abilities. When you start to learn Magic (Terra and Celes can use magic from the get go.) from Espers, that is when you have many options to pound your foes. You fight against The Empire and then against the madman of all mad men in FF,Kefka. The story is just awesome, you have a large group of characters, each with their own abilities and backstory and you can see why the characters are the way they are.

Final Fantasy 7-This is an overall great game with likable or relateable characters,a slow start as a small band of environmental do-gooders to fighting what is basically an evil God to save the planet. I loved how you can set the Materia however you liked, the graphics were good, the music was cool (I do have the FF7 battle theme on my phone.) The side quests were awesome and if you can defeat the optional super bosses you were nigh-Godlike,because they will beat the snot out of you quickly.

Final Fantasy 9-This was a fitting end to the traditional FF in a sense. The graphics were gorgeous and the music was great. You start off as Zidane,a thief working with Tantalaus,a theater group to kidnap the Princess, but you later find out that it was done as a plot to rescue her. As you play, you get to see the side stories via the Moogle Mail. That was a great idea and it gave you a sense of what others thought of the world and you. You have tons of side quests and you want to complete them to gain access to the best gear.

Final Fantasy Tactics-One word, awesome. It was great to be able to plan your moves and having to wary of enemies ganging up on you to run your HP to nothing. This tactical game made you appreciate how tough it is to supply everyone,to making sure you have the best gear and abilities and balance risk and reward. You also had to worry about your units dying and it was permanent, that ratcheted up the tension and made it feel real. You had many side quests to do and if I had to give a hint or two for this gem it is this.

Try to gain a level for each story driven battle you can,you will be overwhelmed if you do not develop your skills and learn to use another class's strength to bolster your own abilities or to detract from a weakness. (i.e. The Knight's Equip Armor is a Godsend. When you use this ability, any class can use armor to make them better able to fend off attacks.)

Learn as many abilities as possible to be prepared for anything. I like having all of my party know at least basic healing and curing as well as recovering the wounded. (i.e. Use the Chemist's Auto Potion to give yourself a chance to heal up from damage. You will not have to waste a turn healing if you can do it automatically.)

Ultrajeff :   I have played every one of them from Final Fantasy 1, all the way to a little bit of Final Fantasy 13, even the harder to find console versions like 2.  I had to play quite a few on a borrowed Game Boy before they made the PlayStation counterparts.   My favorites, and there cannot be just one if you are a fan like me, goes as such, and in order, and why:

Final Fantasy VI - The pure story line is fantastic in every way.  The music is entrancing.  The characters are insane if you know how to level them, and some grow on you personally.  The fights are intense (unless you cheat...you know what I mean.)  Those brachasaurs, man...BRUTAL!  The game had a great amount of difficulty if you played it before internet, as I did, so no walk through meant you beat it the right way first, then you learned from your mistakes and played it again and again.  The replay is always great.  Probably the most played game for me of all time, and I even have the emulator on my phone so I can play it when ever I want.

Final Fantasy VIII - I know this is not the most popular choice for most people, but one that really got me hooked for some reason.  I loved the music.  The story was romantic to a point, and unlike Final Fantasy VII, everyone was kind of attracted to their own person, except for Quistis...poor Quistis.  I loved how different the stat boosting system was with the Draw ability, because, with time, you could make unstoppable characters.  I loved to hate that infernal card game Triple Triad, but when you got lucky enough to get the cards with the Random rule, and still win the Matron's card, that was the bee's knees.  It had so many differences from the previous ones, like Final Fantasy VII had to it's predecessors , that just made it a great game, and my second most played Final Fantasy.

Final Fantasy VII - As I mentioned above, this game was a complete make over from the original top view, and they even threw in some unusual technology, and more earth like themes.  The Big Corporations are destroying the world, and your alliance must save the world from their destruction.  Hits a little close to home...but what do I know, I'm just a conspiracy theorist.  The story was brilliant and the music was very well done.  The game may have been ahead of it's time, graphic wise, but I still think they did a great job with it.  I loved the Weapons that the Earth unleashed, to try and stop the destruction, and how annoyingly powerful those last two were.  The Chocobo races to get the best summons, as well as the Coliseum to get omnislash, were kind of annoying, as well as getting all the huge materia just to be a bad mo fo and squash those Weapons and Sephiroth.  All in all, I liked the game so much, I named my new born daughter after Aerith

Final Fantasy - I grew up in the NES age, watching my Father play this, and watching him jot down every little piece of information onto graphing paper along side every twist and every turn to every map.  If you didn't out right buy this game brand new, you didn't get the first maps, the item and magic lists, and the world map.  I have both sheets still.  This was the first rpg I ever played, along side the first two Dragon Warrior games.  The music was simple, but I loved it, and I am so glad they kept it throughout.  It was so insanely difficult, that if you didn't write down everything that every town's person said, or map out every dungeon that you stepped foot into, when you went to play it again, you start from square one.  You could always call Nintendo Hotline for like $1.99 a minute, but at that time in life, 2 bucks was like 100 these days.  I really did like the fact that you "grew up" after Bahamut's dungeon, and then you just tear through the rest of the stuff.  You could make an entire party of warriors and just slaughter, or throw in a black mage and a white mage and still slaughter.  I like the 2 warrior, black mage, white mage combo personally.

That's my favorites list and why

Right now my favorite is Final Fantasy Explorers. I have been playing it a little bit here and there since I got it a few months ago and I love how different it is from the other games and how much it is similar to the Monster Hunter series which makes it seem even better taking aspects from two of my 5 favorite gaming series.

I may be looking at this through heart-shaped glasses but my ultimate favorite is VII. I was 5 when me and my brother played it for the first time and the whole game blew my mind. The music, the atmosphere, the cut scenes, the tragedy at the end of disc 1... FFVII is one of those games I wish I could forget about and play again from a fresh point of view. If not entirely, VII was still a huge part of my childhood.

I also enjoyed XII. I think it was way ahead of its time with the battling system and the game didn't receive the appreciation it really deserved at the time of its release.

I still have to go for Final Fantasy VIII. Yes, despite a crappy story line and a difficult junction system (at first), it still is my favorite soundtrack of all time. And it FINALLY used the PSX graphics capacities better. It was like comparing Final Fantasy III to Final Fantasy IV basically.

Mine would probably have to be IV due to the story and characters. To me the story is what makes or breaks a final fantasy game and this game has one of the best stories I have seen from the series (in my opinion). I'm apparently not the only person who thought this as we eventually got a sequel to the game called Final Fantasy IV: The After Years.

My favorite, as anyone who knows me knows, is indisputably Final Fantasy VI. It has a wonderful, compelling story, a memorable cast of characters, an awesome soundtrack (With the boss theme, the Decisive battle, being one of my favorite battle themes in games), and in my opinion, Kefka is the best villain in the series, since, despite his clownish exterior, he's completely evil, and he

For me, it's a tossup.

Final Fantasy VI, X, and XII are all very previous to me for various reasons.

VI was proof to me that there is hope for the future, that you can go back, and play a 2D RPG and still enjoy it without gimmicks. To me, it is the quintessential 2D RPG.

X was the first game in the series I played, and it is the one that propelled a love of RPGs into me. Until that point, I was mostly into adventure and action games, but this one changed my entire base.

XII was the last good game in the series. And it's getting remastered!
