Oldschool777 : I'm in kind of the same boat - I have a really high tolerance to caffeine so I have to watch. I used to drink 2-3 energy drinks per day, while I worked 2 jobs (don't ask how I'm still alive - I think secretly I'm not).

I was the same way when I used to work as a pizza delivery driver. I would pound 1 or 2 Red Bull drinks during the shift. Like it says in that link,my daily safe limit of Monster is 5 cans,so thankfully I always stayed under the danger threshold.

No not really since I don't see much point it. I don't really see there being much of an actual benefit to be gained so to me it's more or less money thrown away, when going to the gym I always just bring a water bottle which is typically the only thing I feel like drinking at that point anyway.

Though I'm not doing so right now, I have been looking into starting taking protein powder after working out, mostly because I'm fairly underweight and I'd like to try and gain some to a point where my body weight is around the recommended amount.

Now that is the safe limit. Even then I would probably have to puke if I drank that much Monster.

My lethal limit would be a 129.2 cans of that drink. I think you would have many many warning signs before you took it that far.

Zlinqx : For me personally, I find that I can work out more with a preworkout - however, that being said, if water alone is working for you I think that's great. My first time working out I didn't take anything, and then I tried an energy drink prior to working out. Soon after a friend gave me a trial-packet of a pre-workout and I noticed a big difference.  I've been meaning to try my workout without it again though just to get my tolerance down..

For the protein thing, have you thought about asking one of the trainers are your gym? My gym's small, so the trainer there is actually a guy I went to school with. I'm lucky that he's willing to answer questions. It's worth a shot asking.

I don't drink anything special. It's either just water or gatorade for working out. I'm sure those drinks could help, but I'm not working out for professional reasons, so I see no need to spend any more money than I absolutely need to on it.

I don't take any sort of pre workout drink, really, but I make sure to drink protein in the morning , since that stimulates muscle growth, and a lot of water throughout the day before a workout. I have drank Gatorade before, but not anything special. I'm honestly not even sure what the pre workout drinks even do. Do they just give you an energy boost, or do they increase muscle output or growth? I'm really not familiar with them at all.

I don't tend to drink anything except water before working out, but I will occasionally drink Gatorade (of all types of flavors too).

Pre-workout drinks are just for if you have the money for them and aren't really necessary. I used to drink creatine as a pre-workout for a while until I realized that I didn't need it.

You just need to have the right diet (protein enriched) plus protein shakes for 2 grams per pound the amount of your body weight every day. That's for size in workouts anyway,

Not sure what your goal is in workouts.

In other words it's all dependent on believing. I can work out regardless if I took/drank a pre-workout.

I drink Muscle milk after a huge work out but rarely. It also helps if I'm hungry if I can not find any good food around in college at night.

I often just drink Gatorade for the taste...

I drink water before a workout and gatorade after.

The water beforehand is to make sure you are properly hydrated to just start with the workout so when you sweat you don't become dehydrated. The gatorade is to replace everything you lost in your sweat. Drinking Gatorade before a workout isn't smart, as you then have too much in your system and will have trouble sweating it out.
