I'll be going off to college next year so I'm in the same boat as you. I'm not going to lie and say that I'm not scared or worried but I'm also excited to see what my future holds. I see growing up as an opportunity to finally make a name for yourself and get out and help the world. Whether that be by being in costumer service, patrolling the streets, helping businesses with their budget, etc. Everything you do impacts society in some way, positive or negative. I'll also have a lot more freedom and can make my own choices. If I could choose honestly I'd probably decide to remain 17 for the rest of my life but since I'm unable to I have to focus on the positive aspects of what lies ahead of me.

Well, yeah I am. Who isn't?  Although I know it will be the worst thing ever, I know that's going to be how it is. And with current life situations, it won't be long before I need to get a job for myself, which is really the pebble that starts the rockslide that is growing up.

Will it suck? Yes. But I want to have an optimistic outlook about all of it. But I DO know, however, that I will be able to buy video games with a job.

I wonder what the character limit on this thing is.

unpro27 : I may be 16 years old, but sometimes I get scared of growing up since I feel that I'm not going to be financially successful. Though when I think this I usually tell myself that if I try my best then I'll get by...even though sometimes I don't believe what I say.

Growing up is one of those things no one likes but everyone does, because they have to.

I wouldn't know for sure what being grown up is like- I can't even drive yet- but I have a pretty good picture. Working on a steady schedule, probably for decades to come, and for the vast majority of the year. Part of growing up I found, however, is that you come to accept this and you learn how to mold the future best as you can and to your liking.

I'm 14 years and (almost) six months, and school changes after Year 9 ends, so I don't know.
I do want to stay in the same bubble, although I really want to move house and have a girlfriend/kids/etc. so I have someone to love, and have a good income doing web design/etc while still having a good personal life.

My feelings matter a hell of a lot more to me than whether I get a good job, I had rather enjoy my job and earn little than hate my job and earn a lot because I wouldn't feel happy inside for what I'm doing with my life.

Off and on, I feel the same. I remember when I started Jr. High, I realized that 'growing up'-- or 'change' is how I put it-- was a terrifying and depressing process. For starters, I didn't have any friends and the cousins I had a bond with just started to float away. I confronted my parents about it and they were encouraging. Right now, I'm graduating early in order for my sister and I to start college together. For me, it's a whole new world because I'm used to being home-schooled.

So I'd say, yes, it is normal for you to think that way. Actually, it's a good thing that you realized it now! Most teens-- that I'm around with-- don't even consider the thought. Just don't delve into it as much or-- yeah, you won't sleep at night and that thought will give you anxiety (like myself). Create some goals and plan out your life, if you still feel scared about growing up. If things don't go as planned, create a back-up plan. It's okay and it happens to everyone. Keep running the race, my friend!

And in the words of a certain skeleton, "I'm rooting for ya, kid."

I'm 17 years old and I don't feel like I'm growing up. The only sign of it is college next year, because mentally I don't feel it.

I don't give it much thought, though. I think that if I did I would just get anxious and that's not really good. I'll just wait for it to crash down on me one day, when I start signing contracts at the door without even understanding what I'm doing (unfortunately it has already happened LOL)

Even though I'm 15, I already miss being a child. The days of when all I could do is play video games, hang out with friends and not worry about anything else.

Now I'm in high school and I got a lot of homework and I have responsibilities. The good thing that comes out of it is that you learn to be more prepared and be less lazy.

I've learned as a part of growing up to accept change but not all change. So I'm ok with growing up because it helps me set my priorities in life and reflect on the poor decisions I've made in life and embrace the good decisions. Growing up also helps me gain a understanding of my own principles or values in life. Growing up is convenient for it helps me make better choices in my life but doesn't necessarily make me a better person. I want to approach my decisions in life with care and make ones that make me a better person.

Growing up is like almost everything else in life. There are pros and cons. You'll never enjoy the freedom from responsibility of childhood again, but you gain the freedom to live your life how you see fit. You'll lose a lot of close friends and grow apart, but many start families and find other meaningful companionship. Everything in life is a two sided coin with a good side and bad, you just learn to make the best of what hand you were dealt.
