Hey all of you people! I have been playing Soul Calibur V (he he he...I suck), and I made it me think of things that I hate in fighting games. So in no particular order here the things that I hate in fighting games.

Unbalanced Characters: I'm sure that all of us who've played fighting games have played or encountered characters that seem to be overly powerful while others are very weak.

Inconsistent A.I.: When you're going through the arcade mode of any fighting game, I'm sure you've encountered strange spikes of A.I. strength. For example, you are on the second match, but the opponent fights like a sixth match opponent. Then, after several retries your opponent becomes very dumb.

Clones: Don't you hate when there characters that have nearly identical movesets? cause I do

Bosses: In quite a few fighting games there are those characters that are encountered at the end of an arcade mode that are more difficult than rest. However, at times, these characters can seem to be cheap, and not just because of their movesets. No, some of these characters have special characteristics that give them a clear advantage. Examples being: Night Terror (SC III) immune to ring out, Gill (SF III) can resurrect himself, and Dural 's (VF 2) entire match is underwater, which means you're constantly in slow motion.

Spammers: It is extremely frustrating when an opponent keeps spamming a single move until you're down.

Well, those are the things that I hate in fighting games, but I would like to know about what you hate in fighting games.

You could have chosen a worse game, but indeed Soul Calibur V was an absolute disappointment.

Unbalanced characters are everywhere, not only fighting games. However, I've only noted Algol to be overpowered, the rest are pretty consistent. In other fighting games this difference is much more noticeable, like in Tekken or Dead or Alive, and it indeed deserves hate.

Inconsistent A.I., once again, is everywhere. It also has to do with the character it is using, as it's not able to get the best of a certain character, and you may also be inspired in that round, making the difference a lot more noticeable. I've seen even in racing games how the A.I. is more skilled with certain cars, and the same happens in other genres.

Clones in Soul Calibur V are the worst. One character copies all male fighters, one copies all female fighters and one copies all fighters. Plus, there's Pyrrha Omega, with an identical moveset to the normal Pyrrha, and Siegfried, with a moveset similar to Nightmare. The aforementioned Tekken got rid of the similar movesets from Tekken 4 onwards, but Soul Calibur seems to not have learnt from their mistakes, and that's a big fail for them.

Overpowered bosses are everywhere. I remember Crash Team Racing, where the last boss started the race before the green light appeared. Soul Calibur V, for once, doesn't have this, but other games abuse this so much.

Being a spammer basically means button mashing, otherwise you can predict their moves and counter. In Dead or Alive, for example, button mashing is the way to go, and by that simple reason is an awful game to play.

Besides all of this, I hate overcomplicated combos. I've seen in Dead or Alive 5 a combo in which you needed three full circles done in a very specific timing, or the move wouldn't work. I don't mind doing one full circle at most, but having to repeat that maneuver with perfect timing not once but twice is just disgusting.

Another thing, that can be related to unbalanced characters in a sense, is when characters are given crappy attacks as finishers. Some are crappy because they revolve around strategy more than raw power, but some are simply crappy. For example, Donkey Kong's Final Smash in Brawl is useless, while other characters have certain kill hits, even capable of sending the opponent flying at 300 mph. Also, in Dragon Ball Z Ultimate Battle 22 there's a specific attack given to Android 18 that wasn't listed on the instruction booklet, but the reason behind it is because it's worse than nothing.

EX Palen : Honestly, the only thing of a worth in SC V is the character creation, but even then still not worth it.

The new characters in SC V pissed me off for being rehashes of old characters (minus Z.W.E.I. and Viola). Patroklos is a rehash of Sophitia. Pyrhha is a rehash of Cassandra. Natsu is a rehash of Taki. Xiba (who I hate personally) is a rehash of old Kilik (one of my favorites) who turned into a male only copycat. Patroklos Alpha is a rehash of Setsuka. Leixia is just a rehash of Xianghua. Also why are there three copycats in this game? I mean Edge Master is everyone. So why have Elysium be a female copycat and Kilik as a male copycat. In previous installments there was only one copycat. with the exception of the first game. Also what the heck happened to Yun-seong, Talim, and Zasalamel.

also what to some of the rather neat game modes that they previously had like Chronicles of the Sword

also what happened to endings for each character!?

Yeah, the new character policy for Soul Calibur is disgusting. They got rid of almost all female fighters, only keeping Hilde (she's the only one that time takes its toll on). It can be understood to get rid of Sophitia, probably she's not on the battlefield anymore now that her kids can fight by themselves. Xianghua started a new life and settled with her husband, so another justified one, and also these two had the spotlight in previous installments, so they were due to be replaced by the new generation.

Why Taki was replaced really bugs me. Some say it's because of age, but Hilde is more or less her age. Talim and Cassandra are strangely missing, they could fit perfectly for age, and Talim didn't get a replacement. Seong-mina is also missing, she could make a nice Kilik replacement.

Kilik became the apprentice of Edge Master, and Elysium is the incarnation of Soul Calibur, as Nightmare is for Soul Edge. While they do have a story, I would rather have Kilik take over Edge Master and copy all characters. You know, new generation.

But well, SCV was never finished, they released it incomplete. I refuse to believe the Story Mode is complete, because it sucks so much. Hopefully they release a sixth installment, because having this game as the last one is a great downfall for this amazing series. Of course, Namco is focused on Tekken 7, or at least they should, because no news about it have been released in a while.

EX Palen : Yeah, Namco Bandai definitely need to learn from their mistakes regarding Soul Calibur. I mean for the most part other fighting game series have learned from their mistakes.

and it's really sexist that the older female fighters have been replaced by younger ones or have no signs of aging, while most male fighters show signs of aging

The age thing is due to fragments of Soul Edge, or any other kind of mystic power like in Kilik's case. We have Maxi as a proof.

And well, male fighters are typically loners, having no family or apprentices, so they can't be "logically" replaced. Siegfried and Mitsurugi are this way, and the aforementioned Maxi as well, while Cervantes has been forever cursed and Raphael is theorized to be a vampire, and thus immortal.

The more carefully I look at it, the more mystic this series is becoming.

Personally, I'm not a big fan of auto-combo buttons. I know they don't show up often, but one particular instance that ruined a game for me was in the 3DS version of street fighter 4, you could simply press a button to do a special move as opposed to entering the combination of buttons to accomplish that move. It totally ruined online play. And made me sell an otherwise great game. But that one aspect completely defeated any fun I could have.

Supergamer : Yeah, isn't it? It completely ruins the point of a fighting game. Little to no strategy required. I would've at least appreciated an online game mode for people who don't want to use the buttons, so you could play fairly if you want to.

taterii : That reminds me of Capcom vs SNK 2 for the Gamecube. All you had to do was pointing the C-Stick (the small yellow one) in any direction to unleash the attacks. Basically, you played with the Control Stick to move and jump and the C-Stick to attack. Try that same game for the Dreamcast here, and you will see how much that yellow stick ruined the purpose of the game.

Auto-combos only work if the game is balanced around their existence, only game I can think of right now that does it right is Persona 4 Arena, but that's because it's meant for people who know nothing about fighting games.

Otherwise, yeah. They usually cheapen the experience.

For me would be when they take out the cool people from the freakin original game! God I hate that! Then you say hey where are the best people that made that fighting game look awesome in the first place? I had a feeling someone would say soulcaulibur V I love those games but not the newer version. I haven't seen much of tekken can anyone tell me if the same thing has happened with that game? Games that were amazing in the past tends to get bland because the quality wasn't how it is suppose to be. Plus they do the unthinkable taking out the cool people and replacing them with new people who are like wannabes of the sort. >.>

I really dislike clone characters, and unbalanced characters. Because there will eventually be that one character that is practically unbeatable, and there's no reason to not play them. It just alienates the rest of the cast and the people who like playing them.
Although I totally agree with Eniitan. If you're going to make a sequel and put 90% of the original cast into it...Why are you leaving people out? For what purpose?!

I wonder what the character limit on this thing is.
