For my birthday I bought myself a PS4. I already own Grand Theft Auto V and Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection. What are the top games I should buy for the system? Thanks!

Personally I don't have a lot of PS 4 games so far and I've had my PS 4 for like 3 months and I don't have that many games but I really do like the games I have (2 of which are just ports of PS 3 games) and I think you should pick up games like: Batman Arkham Asylum, Bloodbourne, Dark Souls 2 Scholar of the First Sin, Witcher 3, Assassins Creed Rouge and Unity, and soon to be realised Fallout 4, three's are also some epic games coming out whenever like: Final Fantasy 7 Remake, The Last Guardian, Final Fantasy 15, Kingdom Hearts 3, Tom Clancy The Division and much much more!

I would suggest the new Tony hawk game and the upcoming gran Turismo sport, but if you like sports of course, and definitely uncharted 4 when it comes out.

OrdannonsX : I would recommend Infamous: Second Son. It was one of the first games I bought when I got my PS4, and it's still my favorite PS4 title. I jumped into it without knowing very much about the game and story before, as I haven't played the PS3 titles (and still haven't had the chance to do so). But explaining the game without spoilers, I would say it's a beautiful open world game with super powers and a great but not necessarily over complicated story with different endings depending on moral choices. I also felt like the game kept surprising me through my whole playthrough, and would recommend going into the game as blind as possible if you plan on playing it.

The combat and movement in the game is also very satisfying. You have a upgrade tree that let's you unlock a lot of different attacks, which you can then combine to find the easiest way to defeat your enemies the way you want to. You also unlock different upgrades depending on your karma, giving you abilities matching you play style. There's also abilities that make it easier and more fun traversing Seattle.

It's surprisingly satisfying to glide around

The only situation I can't recommend it, is if you've already seen someone play through it (as I remember a lot of bigger youtubers playing it back when it came out). I can't imagine you'll get the same experience if you've already know how the game is going to play out, as there's no multiplayer or much replayability. There's only a single player mode (But with two different endings). There is some level of unlockabels though, that you get rewarded with by doing challenges in the over world, which I found pretty satisfying. But they're not big enough of a deal to recommend the game only based of them.

zanderlex :

Uh, what? The new Tony Hawk was complete and utter trash. Don't recommend that crap.

-----

If you are a fan of baseball, definitely get MLB the Show's newest installment. It's well worth the price, and it would be on sale now.

Otherwise, I'd recommend Dragon Age: Inquisition, Witcher 3, and Far Cry 4. None of those are exclusive, but they are all great time sink games that will tide you over until whatever you could want comes out.

I know some of these are not out yet, but you need and I mean NEED to get Fallout 4. If you are a fan of Sword Art Online get Lost Song as well. It honestly depends though, what kind of games you like to play. Buy, play, and if you like it keep it. If not exchange it for something else. That's exactly what I do. Hope this helps!

Fallout 4, Metal Gear Solid V (if you've played the others), CounterSpy, Thief (if you can get it for $20 or less), Final Fantasy XIV, Styx: Master of Shadows, and Shadows of Mordor. May have left a few good ones out, but there aren't as many games out as one would think

I don't have a PlayStation 4, but I have a PlayStation 2 and 3. Call of Duty Black Ops 2 for PS3 is really cool. So I think that Call of Duty Black Ops 3 is also a cool game.

I would also suggest Dragon Age Inquisition, I just started playing it for the first time when I got my PS4 and it's really cool. Battlefront comes out tomorrow as well and it's supposed to be really good, i have my reservation already.

I myself would recommend Bloodborne, Infamous Second Son, and Rocket League just off the top of my head. There's more that I'm probably forgetting, but 2 of those games (BB and Rocket League), I've put quite a lot of time into.

I only have four games for my PS4, but I would suggest Batman: Arkham Knight, even if the series or Batman in general doesn't appeal to you. I personally had little tolerance for Batman before getting the game and I love it.

If you're into golf then the Golf Club is probably the best golf game I've ever found for people who want a pure golf experience.

A few I'm looking at are:
Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor
Nobunaga's Ambition: Sphere of Influence
Rayman Legends
Sniper Elite III
Grand Ages: Medieval
Tropico 5
Helldivers
Child of Light
Dragon Quest Heroes: The World Tree's Woe, And The Blight Below

And I could list several more, but I'm sure you'd rather have opinions on games we've actually played. lol I won't be of any more help there until after Christmas when I can spend my money on myself again.

Rasenganfan2 : There are over 500 PS4 games currently, so there's actually a lot more than I'd have expected. Unless you mean "good" games. Unfortunately I've yet to play many, so I can't comment there.

Also judging by your list, you have good taste in games. lol

I don't own a ton of PS4 games but I still have a few recommendations based on the ones I do.

Games I've played and definitely recommend

If you like platforming games I would definitely recommend Rayman Legends a personal favorite of mine that I prefer even to the 2D mario games, looks really charming with lots of imaginative levels and with a lot to do especially for a platformer. I would possibly call this my favorite modern platformer.

If really hard games with quite dark themes doesn't discourage you too much I would definitely get Bloodborne. Out of all my PS4 games it is probably my personal favorite game and is the one I've spent the most time on so far. Just all around a fantastic challenging, amazing looking game with intriguing lore and lots of things to do, and if you've ever played Dark Souls it should be somewhat familiar. It's also an exclusive so it's something to get people you know who don't own one jelly Definitely get it if it sounds interesting at all

If you've played previous Metal Gear Solid games you should definitely get MGS 5: The Phantom Pain, even if you haven't you could still consider getting it based on the gameplay alone I myself didn't have a lot of prior experience and am loving it so far, and the narrative should still be interesting enough to entertain you (and you could always watch a story recap video or such on youtube for the basics).

Final Fantasy X/X-2 this is essentially just a remaster of the original games with gameplay being intact (though apparently there's a mode which wasn't available to north American players before). It's Final Fantasy, and one of the best entries in the series to boot. Great JRPG that's worth picking up if you haven't played it and have an interested in the genre and while graphics still show signs of age at some part they've still done a great job with remastering character models and the soundtrack. Even if you have, having what is the essentially definitive version of both games on the same disc with that awesome looking metal case is cool.

Other games I liked that aren't as good as the above but may still be worth looking into

Saints Row 4, this is like GTA on steroids. Lots of obscene jokes with sexual references so if you're not comfortable with that you shouldn't pick it up but otherwise go ahead and pick this one up. Hilarious story with lots of references to games and media in general. The addition of super powers basically allow you to be a god when roaming around the city just causing havoc. The gameplay can be slightly repetitive at times and the graphics for a port really aren't that good so if you just want to settle on one open world game I'd stick with GTA 5 for the amount of content and how there's just much more variation, but as you can typically get this one for a very cheap price compared to my other recommendations with dlc included, I figured I'd still mention it even if it's not quite on par in terms of quality.

Dragon Age Inquisition is great if you want a more western fantasy RPG. Even if you haven't played previous Dragon Age games you can still get into this much more easily than you could something like Metal Gear Solid (though at least watching a recap of previous games could be worth your time if you're a fan of games with great lore). Characters really make the game, main story is not the best but is still interesting and keeps you engaged, and with a large open world to explore. Main reason I'm not comfortable in placing it among the other games is that I found to get repetitive after a while, and while a lot of people will have you believe it's a game with A LOT to do, missions are often repetitive save the main story, the ones dealing with particular characters and a few odd ones here and there

Games I haven't played but I've thought about picking up myself and I'd say might be worth looking into

Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor, looks pretty interesting especially for LoTR fans, the nemesis system really at the very least SEEMS to make randomized missions in a game not be entirely repetitive, and better pulled off than in any other game. That said as great as I've heard the gameplay is, I've heard the same can't be said for the story so yeah might be worth looking into but don't take just my word for it.

Fallout 4. Internet pretty much blew up about this game. While some say it's not as good as previous Fallout games most seem to think of it as an improvement, and while I don't have too much experience with the franchise this is one I'd look to get. Should be fun for people who want an open world RPG or who like the theme of post apocalyptic game.

The Last of Us. There's a reason so many people had this as their game of the year last year. Only reason I haven't played through it myself is because I watched a playthrough of it which pretty much spoilt the entire story for me, but if you haven't picked it up just do yourself a favor and get it. One of the most heartfelt stories in gaming overall in my opinion, with really great looking gameplay to back it up. What's more impressive is that despite it being a zombie themed game they actually took it and did something slightly different in stead of just being something like you'd expect. Overall an experience definitely try it if you haven't.

Rocket League, this is a lot more of a casual title but it looks really fun. Soccer with cars basically, and the physics really seem to be what makes the game interesting. To top it off the developers seem really cool and have released pretty big free updates. Like I said it really just boils down to soccer with cars though, if that's something you can't see yourself getting into at all or at least check out then you probably wont like it.

Games I've played and wouldn't recommend

Watch Dogs, it's not horrible but also not nearly as good as hype would have you believe and hacking mostly boils down to just random button prompts. If you want an open world realistic-ish game you'd be much better off with the standard GTA 5 that also has a lot of more stuff to do and doesn't take itself too seriously.

Infamous: Second Son. A lot of people like this game and I could see why but I don't find it AS good as people make it out to be. Graphics are really good for a launch title but the gameplay I found to be pretty repetitive, and with that said there's not really that much to do in the game the amount of content is pretty pathetic for an open world triple A game. Story is entertaining but not really fantastic and I found it to be more of a guilty pleasure. If you want an open world game with superhero abilities you're better of with Saints Row 4 IMO or even just GTA considering some of the things you can do.

I'll add more titles if I can think of any worth mentioning in particular.

As somebody who loves their PS4, I know of a ton of games that you should definitely play when you get one.

Here's a list:

Bloodborne (One of the best RPG's I've ever played)
Call of Duty: Black Ops III (Come on, cyborgs AND jetpacks? What's not to like?)
Grand Theft Auto V (So much to do, so much to see. I have 110 hours clocked into single player alone.)
Guitar Hero Live (Really fun if you like rock music)
Infamous: Second Son (Very entertaining and good looking.)
Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain (If you've played the others. The best gameplay ever.)
Metro: Redux (Amazing shooters with amazing story)
Tearaway: Unfolded (The comfiest platformer you'll ever see. Use it with the PlayStation App on your phone for a really fun experience.)
Uncharted: Nathan Drake Collection (A remaster of three of the greatest action games ever made. Nonstop fun for at least 60 hours.)
Watch_Dogs (If you can find it for 10 dollars, it's worth the laughs. Horrible driving mechanics, glitches galore, and terrible graphics. Cool concepts that couldn't flounder any harder.)
Wolfenstien: The New Order (The best first person shooter I've ever played with one of the greatest stories you'll ever see unfold. So intriguing and impressive all the way through.)

There's also a massive amount of digital games to be found, and there's a bunch of games I don't own that I'd probably love.

Upcoming exclusive games to be interested in are:

Uncharted 4: A Thief's End
Ratchet and Clank
Persona 5
Street Fighter V
Shenmue III
Firewatch
Final Fantasy VII Remake

I don't think you necessarily had to play the other Metal Gear games to enjoy MGS5.
As far as the time line goes, MGS5 is the 4th game in the series. Since its by Kojima though, nothing really makes sense anyway. xD

Sewaddle: Uh, according to some research, the HD versions are only on PS3. Very questionable decision of Sony. And I'm not completely sure, but I think PS4 has backwards compatibility for physical PS3 discs. But I could be wrong on that, don't take my word for it.

TheFadedWarrior's claim isn't correct. There is no backwards compatibility for PS3 games excluding their Netflix-like service Playstation Now, which only has a few PS3 games. You can play PS2 games from the digital store, though.

As for Kingdom Hearts specifically, there will be a Kingdom Hearts 2.9 coming out next year that will be PS4 versions of the first few games in the series.
