Ok where to start...
I will just go down the check list.

Graphics:
The graphics in this game are all new expect in Mario world but  I will get to that in a second.
Mario 1/lost levels:
They 100% redid the graphics! Mario is now clear deep red and Luigi is no longer a plate swap of Mario and he's nice green!
Mario 2/Mario usa in Japan
They reworked the graphics but somehow to me they look kinda the same. Sure Mario friends have been recolored but at the same time it still looks kinda the same. I like that but I know not everyone would agree.
Mario 3:
Mario 3 has been recolored like all of them. Mario's graphics has not really been changed other than the recoloration (Is that a word??)
Luigi sprite has been change to make him no longer a plate swap of Mario and now deep green!!
Mario world:
Mario world has the smallest amount of changes. The big change to Mario world is the fact that Luigi is now Luigi not a plate swap of Mario.

Sound: All of the games except Mario world have new versions of their songs.
All the songs have been revamped with 16bit instruments. The original mario bros theme now has steel drums in it,
Mario bros 2 over-world song now is no longer one instruments I want to say it has piano in it but I just can't put my finger on it for sure.
Mario bros 2 over-world also now has some background instruments like chimes.
The super mario bros 3 over-world them now has steel drum like instruments. They have changed to make it sound like a lazy day song that just fits in really well.

Addictiveness: This games has TONS of replay value because it has so many Mario games!! The replay value of the other games are in this game.

Story: Each Mario game has a story. Although only one has a different story... Mario 2 is the only one that has a different story.

Depth: This game HAS TONS TO OFFER! Because there are so many Mario games in it you can play this for weeks!
Mario bros 3 has 8 world full of levels.
The original Mario bros has 32 full levels.
Mario bros 2 has 26 levels.
The lost levels has the 8 worlds and 2 special worlds.
Mario has many levels and tons of secret exits

Difficulty: Most of these games are easy but the lost level oh man the lost level... YOU CAN SINK HOURS INTO THIS GAME AND GET NOWHERE!!! Sorry just a little but of personal rage. The lost levels are by far the hardest thing in this game. The lost levels as most of you know was not released in the us, But not everyone would know is it wasn't released due to how hard it was. (Yes they where that condescending) But in all fairness it is really hard. This game adds a new mechanic that has never been used again: Wind. All wind does is push you around but combined with tricky level design wind sucks. Also more maze castle. (Is more needed??)

This game is great the only way to really experience how great this game is you need to play it!!!! Speed that vizzed to play it or buy it in really life!! If you love super Mario bros you need this game!

Good review! Maybe a little more details here and there, but overall I can dig it.

I'll make sure I at least try it out, because you ended with "you need to play it!!!!" haha

One thing I'd really like to see is maybe more about why the game has TONS of depth, you know what I mean? Pretend you're explaining the game to a friend who knows absolutely nothing at all about the game.

Yes, as skilledtree said, good job. It's good to see that the review was separated into different categories. If you were to add more detail to your reviews, they'd not only be better, but you'd also earn more Viz. Anyways for now, good job and keep up the good work.

Ah, kids. They do not know how to appreciate great classics; they ALWAYS need the upgraded version .

Anyway, since this is a compilation I guess that having such a short review is understandable. However (if it applies to you of course) you could have made more comparisons with the original games so people have a better idea of what changed, especially for the music. And since the Lost Levels never got to America before Mario All-Star, you could have talked a little more about its insane (and sometimes) impossible difficulty level.

Nice work on reviewing a compilation of games here, that's never easy. It's so hard to hit the right amount of detail without giving too much in reviews like these, as adding the smallest bit of detail to each of them adds up to a decent amount of words.

Also I like how you avoided addressing the unaltered portions of the game, as that would have been unnecessary because most everyone who plays this will have played the others first. And if they haven't, they can check each stand alone game's reviews for information. I prefer the same approach when reviewing hacks as well, and in fact the hack review word requirement for featuring is half that of a normal game's for this very reason.

As for the game itself: I remember renting Super Mario All-Starts as a kid. I had played all of these by themselves (minus lost levels), but when we rented this thing I was actually old enough to play them well enough to fully enjoy them.

Then they rerelease the game and add Super Mario World? Then they rerelease it on multiple systems later on? Nintendo has this bad tendency to resell us the same games over and over, which brings me to my next point....

I have to agree with Jordanv78 in saying that I don't really buy that "we didn't release this one in the U.S. because it was too difficult for western gamers" stuff that they gave us. I mean, look at Contra: to this day it's regarded as one of the hardest games ever made (and rightly so), and they released it in America. If we played --and loved-- THAT game despite it's challenge, we would have had no trouble with lost levels. Then there's Mega Man: again much harder than lost levels, but a huge hit in the states. I think they didn't give us lost levels because they didn't know at the time if we would buy what was essentially the exact same game they sold us with Super Mario Bros. only with harder levels. If difficulty were the real reason, they could have replaced the levels with easier versions of them just as easily as they could have made SMB2 U.S. In fact, dumbing down the lost levels difficulty would have been MUCH easier for them than making the SMB 2 that they gave us. I'm calling baloney on Nintendo here. Oh well, at least we got a good game in SMB 2 (better than lost levels I think).

Again, good work.

I absolutely loved this cartridge. I believe I had this for my SNES and I couldn't get enough of it. I also wasted hours and hours on the lost levels and probably rage quit a few times .

Still, to combine all 5 games into 1 cartridge was amazing. This is something I still wish I owned because I would still play it.
