Hello and welcome to my Pokemon Black 2 major battle guide, where I will be going over strategies you can use for gym leader, elite 4, and the Champion battles. I'll be going over the normal mode only, since the only way you can unlock challenge mode is by beating the game, and you can't even restart the game using challenge mode. Someone who's already beat the game has to give you challenge mode via Unova Link. As for this guide, I hope it will be just as helpful as my Pokemon Black major battle guide. Without further ado, let's get this game guide started!

Gym Leader 1: Cheren: Aspertia City: Specialty: Normal Type

The first gym leader in Pokemon Black 2 is Cheren, who was one of the rivals in Black 1. Here, he's a normal type specialist. He has a level 11 Patrat and a level 13 Lillipup. No matter who your starter is, this battle shouldn't cause any problems. His Patrat can quickly be taken out with your starter, as can his lillipup. Both of his pokemon have the same moveset, except for their 4th moves. Patrat knows Detect, while Lillipup knows helping hand, which of course is useless in single battles. This is in my opinion the easiest first gym in the history of Pokemon, so  you shouldn't have any trouble here.

Gym Leader 2: Roxie: Virbank City: Specialty: Poison Type

The second gym leader you'll face is Roxie who is the poison type specialist. The Pokemon she has are a level 16 Koffing, and a level 18 Whirlipede. Her Koffing knows Smog, Assurance, Tackle, and Clear Smog, which is an interesting that has 50 power and removes any stat changes that your pokemon has had in the battle. Her Whirlipede knows Venoshock, Poison Sting, Protect, and Pursuit. If you chose Snivy as your starter, then you'd better have another pokemon capable of winning this battle for you, like Flaffy, Pidove, even a Riolu could do some damage if it has counter. Her Koffing's pretty easy to take down, though Smog could poison your pokemon, which will definitely effect you when you face her Whirlipede. That pokemon has Venoshock, which deals double damage when your pokemon is poisoned. Even though that's a special move, it can still do some serious damage if you're poisoned. This is where an Antidote comes in handy. As long as you make sure the pokemon you're using doesn't get poisoned, this battle should be over pretty fast. Congratz, you've now got your second badge.

Gym Leader 3: Burgh: Castelia City: Specialty: Bug Type

The third gym lead you'll face is Burgh, the bug type specialist. He has 3 pokemon at his disposal. Those pokemon are a level 22 Swadloon, a level 22 Dwebble, and a level 24 Leavanny. If you have a fire or flying type pokemon (or both) on your team, then this battle will be very easy, since his Swadloon and Leavanny are both bug/grass types. His Dwebble can be taken out easily if you have a Water type pokemon on your team. Just make sure you take out that Dwebble before it starts using rock polish, which sharply increases speed, and you'll take that pokemon out no problem.  His Swadloon and Leavanny shouldn't cause you any problems as long as you have that fire or flying type pokemon.

Gym Leader 4: Elesa: Nimbasa City: Specialty: Electric Type

The fourth gym leader you'll face in Black 2 is Elesa, the electric type specialist. She has 3 pokemon at her disposal. The pokemon she has are a level 28 Emolga, a level 28 Flaffy, and a level 30 Zebstrika. Her Emolga is definitely the easiest to bring down. Even if you don't have a pokemon with a super effective move against the electric/flying type squirrel, you can still bring it down with no problems. Just make sure to not use an electric type move because there's a chance that Emolga could switch out using Volt Switch, and Zebstrika could come in, and that would be disasterous because Zebstrika has the Motor Drive ability, which nulifies electric type moves and increases it's speed when it's hit with an electric attack. Her Flaffy fortunately is a non threat. It has by far the least amount of speed in her team, so you should always move first, giving you a big advantage. Going back to Zebstrika, It has a very diverse moveset: Volt Switch, Flame Charge, Quick Attack, and Pursuit. This moveset makes Zebstrika a force to be reckoned with. This pokemon may take more than one pokemon to bring down. As long as you have decent leveled team and a party of at least 4, this battle shouldn't cause too many problems.

Gym Leader 5: Clay: Driftveil City: Specialty: Ground Type

The fifth gym leader you'll face is Clay, the ground type specialist. He has 3 pokemon on his team. His pokemon are a level 31 Krokorok, level 31 Sandslash, and a level 33 Excadrill. For this battle, water, grass, and fighting type pokemon are the ones I'd highly recommend using Dewott, Servine, and Lucario (or Riolu if it hasn't evolved yet, since Krokorok and Excadrill are both weak to fighting type moves, and all his pokemon are weak to water and grass. There isn't much strategy needed here, just have some super potions ready for the battle against Excadrill, and you should win this battle pretty easily.

Gym Leader 6: Skyla: Mistralton City: Specialty: Flying Type

The 6th gym leader you'll face is Skyla, the flying type specialist. She has 3 pokemon at her disposal. Her Pokemon include a level 37 Swoobat, a level 37 Skarmory, and a level 39 Swanna. All her pokemon can easily be defeated with an electric type pokemon, like Ampharos. If you don't have an electric type pokemon or a pokemon with an electric type move, you can take out her Swoobat easily with a rock or ice type pokemon, her Skarmory can be brought down with a fire type, or a pokemon that isn't weak to steel and flying type moves, like a water type. Swanna can be beaten with an ice type, if you don't have an electric type pokemon on your team. Overall, this is one of the easier gym battles in the game, so you shouldn't have any trouble here.

Gym Leader 7: Drayden: Opelucid City: Specialty: Dragon Type

The 7th gym leader you'll face is Drayden, the dragon type specialist. In Black, he was the 8th gym leader, but now there's one gym leader after him. He has 3 pokemon at his disposal. His Pokemon are a level 46 Druddigon, a level 46 Flygon, and a level 48 Haxorus. All his pokemon can be brought down using an ice type, though Haxorus could still cause problems, but I'll get to him later. His Druddigon is the easiest one to beat, since it has horrendous speed, all your pokemon should be have higher speed (unless you have a Ferrothorn). Flygon is a little tougher, since it has higher speed, and it has a good variety of attacks, such as Dragon Tail, Earth Power, Crunch, and Rock Slide. It's a dragon/ground type though, so using an ice type move on it will likely 1 hit KO it. Haxorus is his biggest threat, since it has an massive attack stat, and it's moveset takes full advantage of that. It has Dragon Tail, Slash, Assurance, and Dragon Dance, which is his most dangerous move, since it raises both it's attack and speed stats. Bringing down this powerhouse as soon as possible is needed to win this battle. Using special attacks would be your best bet here, since Haxorus has a low base special defense stat. If you do this, then Haxorus will go down quickly, and you'll have your 7th gym badge.

Gym Leader 8: Marlon: Humilau City: Specialty: Water Type

The 8th and final gym leader in Black 2 is Marlon, the water type specialist. Like most of the other gym leaders in this game, he has 3 pokemon at his disposal. He has a level 49 Carracosta, a level 49 Wailord, and a level 51 Jellicent. If you have a full team of 6, there's no reason why you can't win this battle, but I'll go ahead and give a strategy anyway. His Carracosta has the sturdy ability, which allows it to never be one hit KOed, so even if you use a grass type move, it'll take 2 hits to take out. If you have a pokemon that's either got a grass type move, or isn't weak to water, ground, or dark type moves, you should bring it down easily. Next is Wailord, a pokemon with massive HP, but nothing else. Just using a super effective move should probably bring him down in no time. His final Pokemon is Jellicent, which is a ghost type ripoff of Tentacruel. Using a Ghost, Grass, Electric or Dark Type move should easily bring it down. It's stats aren't impressive at all, so you should have no problems fighting that thing. Now that this excuse for a final gym leader has been defeated, It's time to move on to the Elite Four!

Elite Four Member Grimsley: Specialty: Dark Type

Like in Black, you can fight the elite four in any order you wish, so I'll go in the order that I faced them in. Grimsley is the first, and he is the Dark Type Specialist, and guess what? He's just as pathetic as he was in Black. He has 4 pokemon at his disposal. His first pokemon is a level 56 Liepard, a levle 56 Liepard, a level 56 Scrafty, a level 56 Krookodile, and a level 58 Bisharp. Like in the original, his Liepard is a total joke, and should easily be one hit KOed with a super effective move. His Scrafty can be brought down with a dark or flying type pretty quickly, though it's defenses are high for a fighting type, so using your strongest attacks would be a good idea here. His Krookodile has plenty of weaknesses that can be exploited, such as fighting, water, grass, and bug type moves. His Bisharp is even easier to bring down, just use a fighting type move and it'll be 1 hit KOed.
The second time you face this guy, he has level 72 Liepard, Scrafty, and Krookodile, and a level 24 Bisharp, as well as new additions level 72 Houndoom and Honchkrow. His Houndoom can be beaten easily with a fighting, ground, or water type move, and his Honchkrow's defenses are so horrible, that you don't even need a super effective attack to beat it.

Elite Four Member Marshal: Specialty: Fighting Type

Marshal, another member of the elite four, uses fighting type pokemon. He has 4 pokemon at his disposal, which are a level 56 Throh, a level 56 Sawk, a level 56 Mienshao, and a level 58 Conkeldurr. The best strategy for taking out all his pokemon is using psychic type pokemon, since all his pokemon are purely fighting type. 3 of his pokemon have rock type moves, so using a flying type for this battle wouldn't be the smartest move. Throh is definitely the easiest pokemon on his team, since it has horrible speed. Besides it's fighting type attack, circle throw, it can also use the ground type move bulldoze, and the rock type attack rock tomb, as well as payback. Sawk has the ability sturdy, so using a flying type pokemon here would not be recommended, since it to can use rock slide, which could easily end up KOing your pokemon. Instead, using a psychic type or your starter would be a much safer move. His 3rd pokemon is Mienshao, which is far more dangerous than his previous two pokemon, because of it's high speed and the move High Jump Kick, which in gen 5 and beyond has 130 power. Using a Flying type pokemon here would be your best bet because Mienshao is the 1 pokemon on his team that doesn't have a rock type move. Finally, there's Conkeldurr, who has very low speed, but it's high attack and defense can make it a bit of a pain to bring down. I'd recommend using a psychic type here since it's special defense is horrible.

Elite Four Member Shauntal: Specialty: Ghost Type

Shauntal, another member of the elite four, uses ghost type pokemon. She has 4 pokemon as well. She has a level 56 Cofagrigus, a level 56 Drifblim, level 56 Golurk, and a level 58 Chandelure. Her Cofagrigus is her tank and can burn you with will-o-wisp. It can also use grass knot, psychic, and shadow ball. Using a Dark type pokemon here is highly recommended since psychic doesn't effect dark types, and shadow ball isn't very effective against them. Using a dark type will easily give you the edge and the KO. Her Drifblim is far easier to bring down, just use a super effective move and watch it go down, but be careful, because it's Aftermath ability will damage you when you KO it. Her 3rd pokemon, Golurk can be brought down quickly using grass, water, ice ghost or dark type moves. Since it has low speed, you should be able move first rather easily. Her 4th pokemon Chandelure is definitely her best offensive pokemon. It's got extremely high special attack, and an amazing moveset to take advantage of that stat: Energy Ball, Shadow Ball, Psychic and Fire Blast can easily wreck your team, so taking it down quickly is important. It's weak to water, ground, rock, ghost and dark type attacks.

Elite Four Member Caitlin: Specialty: Psychic Type

Caitlin, the other elite four member, uses psychic type pokemon. She has 4 pokemon at her disposal. She has a level 56 Musharna, a level 56 Reuniclus, a level 56 Sigilyph, and a level 58 Gothitelle. Her Musharna knows Charge Beam, Dream Eater, Yawn, and Reflect. Bringing this pokemon isn't hard, just use a move that's super effective on it, and it should go down in a few turns. If Musharna uses yawn, then just switch out that pokemon immediately, that way your pokemon doesn't fall asleep. Her Reuniclus is possibly her best offensive pokemon, with moves such as Focus Blast, Psychic, Thunder and Energy Ball, it's tough to bring this one down. If you have a ghost type in your party, I'd recommend using that one. If not, then a bug type pokemon would be another one to use for this fight. Once you take down Reuniclus the battle gets much easier. Sigilyph can be brought down easily with dark, ghost, electric, rock, and ice type moves, and it's stats aren't very good, so this should be the easiest part of the battle. Gothitelle is best brought down with super effective physical attacks, since it can use calm mind. It would be wise to use one of your stronger pokemon here because Gothitelle has high defenses, so it won't be brought down in one hit like her Sigilyph. Once you've taken down Gothitelle, you've earned the right to challenge the champion of Unova.

Unova Champion Iris: Specialty: Dragon Type

The Champion in Pokemon Black 2 isn't Alder, it's actually Iris! She specialises in dragon types, though her team isn't entirely made up of dragon type Pokemon. Her team of 6 consists of a level 57 Hydreigon, a level 57 Druddigon, a level 57 Archeops, a level 57 Aggron, a level 57 Lapras, and a level 59 Haxorus. Her Hydreigon is one of her toughest pokemon, as it has great stats and it has a great offensive moveset consisting of Flamethrower, Charge Beam, Dragon Pulse, and Surf. Here, it would be wise to use a fighting or dragon type like Scrafty, Lucario, or Haxorus, with Scrafty being the one that will take the least amount of damage due to it's high defenses and none of Hyrdeigon's moves being super effective against it. Her Druddigon is much easier because of it's horrendous speed, and the fact that it's other stats aren't very impressive either. It would be wise to use special moves here because Druddigon's ability Rough Skin hurts the user when you use a physical attack on it. Other than that, Druddigon poses no threat. Her Archeops is easy as well because of it's low defenses and it's ability defeatist, which lowers it's attack when it's HP is less than half. You don't necessarily have to use super effective moves to beat it, but one of those moves would likely one hit KO Archeops. Next is Aggron, which happens to be her easiest Pokemon to beat! The fact that it has 4x weakness aagainst fighting and ground type moves makes bringing down Aggron too easy. Her 5th Pokemon is Lapras, which is a water/ice type. It knows Surf, Ice Beam, Thunderbolt, and Sing.  The best strategy here would be to use Lucario's Aura Sphere because it has perfect accuracy. If you don't have Lucario, then another fighting or an electric type would work perfectly for this battle. Once you've brought down that Lapras, it's time to talk about Haxorus. It's moveset is Earthquake, X-Scissor, Dual Chop, and Dragon Dance.  Haxorus is very dangerous because of Dragon Dance, which I explained back at the Drayden battle. That move makes it's offensive attacks that much more deadly. Like Drayden's Haxorus, using and ice type pokemon like Vanilluxe or Mamoswine would the best choice for this battle. Now that Haxorus is out of the way, you're the Unova Champ!

I hope this game guide was helpful for you.
