I got this game recently, and I am incredibly hooked!  Since receiving it last Sunday, I have spent almost 14 hours with the game, completing the main game and New Game+.  I plan to 100% the achievements of the game in the future, but I really, really need to take a break from it.  I'm addicted!

It's just so...replayable.  Add in the 300+ cheat codes available, and I've got a game I can see myself replaying many times in many different ways in the future.

And if you haven't heard, there is a Shovel Knight amiibo announced!  It will add extra challenges to the 3DS and Wii U versions, and Co-op mode on the Wii U.  I have the Steam version, though...but I do plan on picking up the 3DS version in the future.  This is a game I'd play the heck out of on the go.

Do any of you have Shovel Knight?  If not, I highly suggest you consider picking it up ASAP if you have the patience and skill required for it.  It is demanding, but it's so much fun.

I've heard a lot of good things about it. Been wanting to get it for my 3DS or on Steam, I just have so many games that I need to play right now that I cant find time to play. Maybe I'll pick it up around the holidays.

It's a game I plan to get for my 2DS together with some other awesome platformers like Shantae and the Pirate's Curse, Steamworld Dig and Cave Story 3D. It's become popular in a really short time, just like FNAF did.
Also, the Shovel Knight amiibo is apparently the first amiibo not manufactered by Nintendo itself! Though they still look like they actually are developed by Nintendo.

I've seen a lot of streamers play it, and it is a great game to play. But, I myself haven't gotten to play the game as of yet. Maybe one day I'll get too.

I had planned on getting this until a friend whose game tastes I trust told me how terrible it was. He also said one really bad word to use when describing a game to me...

Megaman. o__o

More specifically he likened the controls to Megaman, and that's one of the two things I can't stand about Megaman, with the second being the unfair ways they implement difficulty. I enjoy difficulty, but Megaman's bosses always just felt cheap to me...I don't know. And according to this friend, Shovel Knight has really stiff controls and the jumping mechanic wasn't very good. I've yet to watch any videos on it, so I don't know yet for myself. I'll probably take a peek later though and see how it goes from there.

Anyway I also fear trying anything that gets this much hype this fast, as I'm usually disappointed and walk away feeling like it was just a popular game because a famous YouTuber liked it and so it became the "in" thing to like. I've seen a lot of games like this (looking at you, Five Nights At Freddy's).

juuldude : You actually made me even more afraid to try this when you likened it's overnight popularity boom to FNAF. lol No offense if you like that series, I just feel like most of it's popularity came from the fact that it was the popular game to like at the time (though certainly some enjoy it simply because of their tastes), and I worry that Shovel Knight may be the same.

Yeah, I think I'll pass on this one if even part of the stuff I've mentioned here is true.

Eirinn : It is very much like Mega Man.  But I don't feel the game was cheap.  Nor did I buy into the "it's popular", thing.  I didn't get the game because it was popular.  I got it because it was well-reviewed and I had played the demo.  I knew I would like it.  And I did, quite a bit.  Sure, it wasn't perfect, it was often frustrating, but as I pushed forward, I found a game I know I'll love to replay many times.  It wasn't just the style.  The gameplay was fun, too.  To answer your other questions, the jumping mechanic was brilliant.  Having three different heights for jumps simplifies things, but also encourages experimentation.  The game is totally not FNAF.  From what I've heard, FNAF is a horror game that relies on cheap jump scares to sell its gameplay.  Shovel Knight is a platformer that relies on its gameplay to sell its story.  And I promise you that gameplay is good.  I can see why some people wouldn't like it, though.

TristanTehGamer1 : I found it very frustrating at times, but extremely rewarding.  Although the game is short (it took me only 7+ hours to beat the main game and about 5-6 for New Game+), it's sooooooo replayable.  The levels are tightly and brilliantly designed, and have a good number of hidden secrets to find.  I can see myself playing this game many, many times over the course of my life.  Although I've only played it about 15 hours, I plan on getting every "Feat" (achievement) and speedrunning the game for fun.  I used to not be a very hardcore gamer, but games like this have led to me trying to become one, in a sense.  If your brother will let you play Shovel Knight, I suggest trying it out before buying it for yourself.  Comments like Eirinn's have caused me to acknowledge Shovel Knight may not be for everyone.  But it certainly was for me.

With the new campaign likely coming out soon (Plague Knight's "Plague of Shadows"), there will be even more replayability to the game.  I'm really, really excited for the new campaign, as it looks tightly, brilliantly designed.  Yacht Club Games have already put up a tutorial and gameplay vid on their website.

Hmm, well I looked up some videos of it last night, and I'm thoroughly confused. lol It looks fun, but everyone and their brother compares it to mega man, and I can see mega man all in it when watching...that makes me incredibly nervous to drop money on it. :/

But again, it looks like a fun game, and despite looking son much like mega man, it really almost doesn't look like mega man. I told you I was confused. xD

It also has some strong Duck Tales influences which is amazing, as well as it's blending of exploration with side scrolling platforming kind of like Alex Gordon (old PC platformer that I love), so...Gah! xD I really need someone with a copy of the PS4 version to share play it with me so I can try it. lol I've also been burned several times by games that look great but after buying them I was extremely unimpressed (I always do this with each new Sonic game I see...not sure why I haven't learned yet lol).

If the price drops or I can get a chance to test it out, I just might pick it up, I just hate to risk $15 on a game that I'm so unsure about.

It's probably the best crowdfunded game I've ever seen. The pixel art looks beautiful and incredibly smooth, the controls are perfectly responsive, the level design is great...Instead of simply having pixel graphics, this game actually accurately captures what people liked about games like Mario, Mega Man, and Castlevania. I wouldn't complain if it were a retail release with a $60 price tag.

Now, if only every game that asks for large amounts of donated money could be this good.

Shovel Knight was a fun game that was probably the only indie  game that I enjoyed enough to finish and start a new game plus that I utterly failed at. It's a tough game that hankers back somewhat to the old days of yore, but it's not so difficult that you'll probably only really feel like throwing your controller (or handheld) until the later stages (or most of them in new game+). Shovel Knight is wonderous mix of beloved games from the nes days.
