Hey, everybody. Today, i’m reviewing one of my favourite wrestling games ever: WWE smackdown VS Raw 2010

This game was released in 2009, and featured one of the smallest rosters in the Smackdown series.

Now, if it wasn’t for this game, I would most likely not even watch wrestling, and it would not be my passion, but I’ll get to that later.

The game was hugely advertised for creation, so it’s tagline was ‘’It’s your world now’’

Did it live up to the hype? Let’s find out!

Difficulty: 6/10

This game has four difficulty settings: Easy, Normal, Hard and legend.

Pretty straight forward right?

Some people say that this game is hard to learn. I don’t really think it is though. It is a lot of fun to learn, and it doesn’t take very long to learn in my opinion.

Easy, if your good, is very, very easy. They barely do anything, maybe throw you in the corner, and just stand in the middle of the ring, not doing anything.

Normal is also easy if your good, this time the CPU does more, but it’s still way to easy to just continuously pound on your opponent.

Hard, is probably the funnest game mode, if you want to be sure to win, but still have a good fight (Again, if your good)

Legend, is hard. Very hard, they reverse nearly every move, so you have to do that, too.

I also think that they did a very good job with the stats. You can train either a real wrestler, or your own! ( Which is more fun than training a real wrestler )

Sound: 6/10

The sound is pretty good, but not great. The commentary is kinda meh. But the smackdown commentary team is my favourite.

There is music on the menu’s the most are Wrestling themes, which are pretty good. But there are also some songs from skillet, and some other bands. Which are also pretty okay.

The crowd sound is awesome! It is realistic, and there is also the weird guy that says some things on his own, like ‘’This is awesome’’ O r, ‘’Put ‘em in a bodybag!’’

The theme songs sound really good in an entrance, unlike WWE 13. You can also use your own songs from your hardrive in the XBOX 360, and PS3 versions.

Depth: 9/10

Now, this is the category that the publishers of this game, THQ, advertised the most.

There was going to be tons of hours to invest in this game.

If you don’t know what a finisher is, it’s a devastating move used towards the end of matches, when someone kicks out of a finisher, you know they’re good.

So, in WWE Smackdown vs RAW 2009, they allowed you to create your own finisher, but it was still very limited. There was no finisher off the ropes, or in the corner. But in this game, they promised to fix all that, and give you those type of finishers. And, I really think it delivered, you could make insane unrealistic finishers, or an awesome move that is actually possible in real life. Not only that, they gave you the option to make finishers off the ropes and in the corner. And the best part about this, is that you could share it online! Of course, the servers have been taken down, but it was cool when the servers were still alive.

The create a wrestler is pretty great, but they limited what clothing, and other stuff you could put on your own wrestler. Which, I thought was a little stupid if you wanted to make a super out of this world wrestler.

Now, they give your wrestler a default move-set, but that move-set sucks, really.

So, you can create your own, it will take a long time, and it might feel tedious at times, but I promise it will pay off. You will have a lot of fun with your own wrestler, it will really be yours.

There was also the road to wrestlemania, it is a gamemode with a storyline, on the road to the biggest show of the year wrestlemania. You have stories for your own character, and some other guys. (And gals)

The biggest thing that was advertised for this game, was the CREATE-A-STORY! It was a mode where you could script all the shows for up to 10 YEARS!!! As you can imagine, this is one of the biggest reasons I gave the depth such a high score.

Now, I really think that you should only play this gamemode on the PS3, and XBOX 360 versions, since in the PS2 version you can’t plug in a keyboard. And you will need a keyboard if you want to play this mode.

Story: 10/10

Why a ten out of 10? Because you can make your own of course!! You can make it as good as you want, you might say I’m cheating here, but I really think it deserves it. If you’re a good writer, you can make some awesome storylines.

It does have some built in storylines, and the road to wrestlemania, but really those were not all that good.

In the create a wrestler story, you sign to a contract with the WWE, and you have to fight the evil power of the owner of the company, Vince McMahon. It’s good for what it’s worth, but creating your own is a lot more fun, and can be better if you’re a good writer.

I made some pretty good storylines, if I do say so myself.

Graphics: 8/10

This was pretty early on in the PS3’s existence, so it took a little longer the graphics to become amazing.

But still, I think these graphics are really great. The character models look fantastic! They all look like their real life-counterparts. Not only that but the lighting and everything is just great. The crowd doesn’t look so great though, they are just pixels that somewhat resemble people.

The arena’s all look the same, really. Which kind of sucks, it’s a lot better these days. The only things that are different all the colour of the ropes, and the logo.

The commentators in the background look pretty good. But it’s weird to see their mouths moving and them moving their hands when they aren’t even talking.

Now, for the blood, at first it might seem like just a little blob at the top of their head, but it gets progressively worse, if I punched his face, it would actually show up on my knuckles. Which is a great touch.

Addictiveness: 7/10

This game is pretty addictive, especially the create a story mode. It’s just a lot of fun, the gameplay is very good. And has a nice flow to it, the controls are also great, You use the left analog stick to move, and the right analog stick to do a move, aka grapple. The gameplay has a nice flow to it, and it’s pretty fast paced, just right in my opinion.

The road to wrestlemania is okay, but you won’t play it more than like three times. When the server was still up, downloading stories online, downloading wreslters and so on was a real, real joy. And it was very addictive to rate stories.

Memories: 10/10

Yes, 10/10. Let me explain.

It was 2011, I wanted to get a WWE video game, because my friends were doing it, and it was the cool thing to do.

I went to a local gamemania, and they said that the latest game was not around, which was WWE smackdown vs raw 2011, I was really saddened by this, but my friends were like, just wait they’ll have it next week, I wasn’t content with waiting, though. So I bought this one. Now, there was a wrestler in this game, that was not in the other one, someone you might know, he’s jeff hardy. I watched his matches, and I had never heard of him, because of him, I started to watch more and more wrestling, and became a huge fan.

I also have a distinct memory, of my friends telling me that jeff hardy was in the game I bought when we were heading back home, I imagined him as a little fat, him having a moustache, and overall a little bit of a hillbilly.

I really couldn’t have been more wrong, haha.

Overall: 8.5/10

This game is awesome, like really awesome. It has a great flow to it, it’s depth is amazing, and you can make any story you want to. The customization has to be one of the best ever in any video game!

And I Have a lot of great memories.

So is this game worth picking up? Yes, and no. if you hate wrestling, don’t, if you don’t really watch it, but don’t mind it, get it. If you love wrestling, absolutely get it!

So that has been that!

This is a very good review. I love how you explained the various difficulty levels and what they entailed. You also compared the game with previous versions and showed how the present game improved. And the memory factor was an original touch I might consider in the future.

I guess that the customization part must be pretty slick for people who are in these kinds of games (I'm not).
