So I have been way to harsh on this game since i first played it 2 years ago. I could never beat it then, so I considered it a bad game. Getting into it though, this game is great. Just really... really... hard.

Super Mario 3 is yet another game with the same mechanics as the first. The thing that makes this game different though, is the wooden and staged look to the levels, and the new areas.

So starting off, graphics are about a 7. They aren't bad at all for their time. This is an NES game mind you, still the first console Nintendo ever released. They made some major improvements over the years. Same as it may be, this game features a map mechanic where you can choose your next location (kinda). You have your basic paths, but by doing secret things on levels such as discover hidden pipes, you can access optional skips or worlds on the map. This also includes events in which you are forced to fight an enemy traversing the map for you to progress. It gets a little irritating at times, especially when you can't beat them to save your life. I'm referring to you, hammer bros.

This game introduces the Tanooki suit. A powerup that turns Mario into a raccoon with heightened flying abilities. Ships, new stages that move up and down, with cannons firing at your feet. The difficulty spikes at the stages because you have to make it through the stage in one piece and kill a boss at the end of almost every world. It gets irritating as well, due to the repetitive nature of the ships along with increasing difficulty. The ability to store items is the only thing that saves it for me. Otherwise, the ships are nearly impossible going in blind. They only get longer each world.

Off of the complaining aspect, the normal game stages are pretty creative and enjoyable. This game is practically what Super Mario 3D Land was based off of. I wouldn't recommend this game to an average gamer looking for a fun time, as you will tear your hair out at the difficulty. I suggest playing with save states, otherwise you lose ALL your progress upon losing your last life. I give this game a 7 because it is pretty much the same formula as any other Mario game. The difficulty sells the game for me. I would have gone into more detail in this review, but aside from what I mentioned, if you've ever played another Mario game, you won't be surprised by this game.

As I mentioned earlier, I've been way too harsh on this game, but i do love it. I'm a difficulty kind of gamer. I feel this game deserves more credit than I can give. Me and my mother played this game together since I was 11 until now. And we still die every 5 minutes. As a speedrunner of other Mario titles I can honestly say that my opinion on the difficulty is not overly dramatic, but I suggest trying it out yourself if you want the whole feeling.

This is a decent review. You added more words to this one than your last one and you did a decent job explaining what you thought about the graphics and difficulty, but unfortunately, you didn't explain any of the other categories... Other than needing to add more detail, I think you did a good job.

That's a harsh judgement. *Looks at the profile*. Oh, I see. Young people these days...

Although I do share the difficulty pain with you, I thought the game was still worth playing for its nice graphics and music.

Otherwise your review was fun. You actually went into more details than I did about the world map. The secret passages are always a big plus for the gameplay for this kind of game. You covered the sections pretty well.. for those you talked about. What about the music? The depth? the addictiveness?

My review is objective, but I think I speak for most casual players. This game is not exactly addictive... at all. I think the Luigi helper on the Wii was long overdue. The rage-quit was quite common. Depth? Well, you're just a guy in a suit travelling to castle full of lava to save a princess, so not much. The music is catchy, but kind of ignored by the time you get past the first world.

It's a good game, but it's best used as perseverance training. I'll give it an 8.5.
