As of this writing Mega Man X8 is the last game of the X series. X8 was released for the Play Station 2 and came out in Late 2004 early 2005.

Plot: 9

A lot of centuries have passed since the very first X game. Humans are tired of reploids going maverick and past failures. The Doppler, Repliforce, Sigma Virus, the nightmare and red alert disasters have caused humans to colonize in space. Humans and reploids have built a tower to take people from the Earth to the space colonies.  The name of the tower is the Jacob project. A reploid by the name of Lumine is the director of the project. All is going well till there is an accident on the railways as one of the cars crashes. Mega Man X is sent out to investigate the crash. To X's horror several Sigma's come out of the car. The Sigma's transform back into reploid workers. Lumine revels that he and others are new reploids that can copy past bodies (Maverick Hunter Axle is a proto type). He also explains that they are immune to the Sigma Virus. After the accident reploids start going maverick and Lumine is captured. The Maverick Hunters X, Zero, and Axle suspect  Sigma to be involved in this mystery. They set out to solve the mystery and discover some horrific things along the way.

Okay this is a very decent plot. You have a lot going on here. You have a mystery going on as to why are the reploids going maverick if they are supposed to be immune to the Sigma Virus? Lumine gets captured adding more to the mystery. Yes like other X games Sigma is involved so Capcom did not stray away from that. To me Capcom was trying to bring something new to the series instead of going with the fake bad guys that did in previous games. I really like that it shows creativity and how Capcom really put an effort in developing this plot. I give it a good solid rating of 9 out of 10.

Graphics and Controls 8

X8  has much better controls than Mega Man X7. X7 is noted for not having good graphics and not so great controls. Capcom fixed all of that in this game. The graphics are very nice and colorful. Waterfalls look like waterfalls again. Stages are more like the classic X games instead of the virtual reality graphics we got in X7. I really like how the graphics fit the stage themes nicely. In addition, the sprites are very good in this game. The Sprites reminded me of previous X games and were not out of whack like they were in X7. In this game Capcom seemed to have gone back with the classic style of graphics but mixing it in with  modern technology. The graphics in X8 to be honest reminded me of Mega Man Legends 2.

The controls are for the most part smooth and seem real nice. No matter who you use in this game the controls are not effected. In X7 a lot of the characters and controls were very sluggish and did not feel like a Mega Man game at all. The Controls reminded me of X4 and X6's controls. The only part the controls felt sluggish was in stages that scrolled. I do not know if that was done intentionally or not but that can cause some problems. Still at the end of the day I give the graphics and controls a good rating of 8 out of 10.

Sound: 8
The sound has greatly improved from X7. X8 brought back the classic sounds that made X1-X6 great. For the most part there not any tingles in the game. The players have their own unique sounds depending on what weapon they use. I find that to be very nice as it lets you know your doing damage to the bad guys. The bad guys have their own sounds that lets you know they are doing damage to whoever you use. I also like it how Zero has got his battle sounds back in this game. The music is so much improved from X7. Now is the music up there with X2, X3 and X6's soundtrack probably not as those three games had very special tunes to them. But the music is nice in this game and fits the stages nicely. So I give the sound an 8 out of 10.

Addictivenesss (Replay Value) 8

This game has high replay value in my opinion. This is probably my 4th favorite X game to play (more on that later). The graphics are nice, the controls are good and the sound is good. X8 also has high amounts of depth. It seems like Capcom was trying to return the X series to glory after they butchered up X7. This game made me forget all about the negatives in X7. I really how it seemed they were going back to the roots of earlier installments in the series. I also enjoy it how you can bring two maverick hunters on a mission and switch out. Each Character is unique and its so much fun to try to play the game with a combo or go solo.  I really enjoy playing this game and its one of my favorites in the X series.

Depth: 9

This game has lots of depth. First of all you can try to play through the game with one character X, Zero or Axle or you can do a combo and bring two maverick hunters with you on a mission. To me that adds depth because your do different combos or go at solo. To me its fun to try to play through the game with one character and then play it again with a combo. Second, they are lots of items to collect in this game. There are Dr. Light power ups to be found via capsules, metal chips to be collected, and other types of chips to collect. The metal chips and other chips can be used to purchase items through the labs. They are also secrets in the game as well that unlocks more playable characters. So there is a lot going on in this game. X8 keeps the tradition of Mega Man games having lots of depth to them alive. I give the depth of X8 a very solid rating of 9 out of 10.

Difficulty: 10

The Difficulty in this game has turned some people off from this game, but I'm the type of player that loves a challenge. X7 was difficult due to the not so good graphics and was difficult for the wrong reason. X8 is difficult for the right reasons enemy placement, difficulty in getting items and difficulty in the bosses. Even though I enjoy difficult games this game can be a real pain. The difficulty in this game reminds me of X6's difficulty

Enemy placement can be a huge problem in this game. Enemies just love to surround you, ambush you and in some levels defeating enemies is required to escape a death trap. So yeah be prepared to get hit in this game as you will get hit a lot in this game. Also be prepared to lose a few lives in this game.  A lot of the items are very difficult to get. Revisiting stages is a must in this game to get all the items. Some will require special moves to get to them, defeating certain enemies, require creativity, and require a little bit of luck too. Whew, collecting items in this game will take a very long time to get.

The bosses in this game are very difficult and brutal. A lot of the bosses are very quick and can drain your health bar quick. Some have super charged attacks that do over 50% of damage to your health bar Yikes. So fighting the bosses in this game require skills, reflexes and a little bit of luck.  Not only are the bosses tough but their stages' can be nightmares due to the reasons I mentioned above.

Mega Man X8 reminds me of Mega Man X6. X6 had difficult stages and very hard bosses. This game is a lot like that. In X6 a lot of the times were very tough. But in X6 the game did try to help you out by allowing you to make parts. In X8 the chips you collect can be used to produce parts for your character to use. The ability to power up does help you out but still it does not really do much to lessen the difficulty in this game. I give X8 difficulty rating a 10 out of 10. Its difficult but it is difficult for the right reasons.

Overall Rating 9

Mega Man X8 came out at the end of 2004 to early 2005. I did not get this game till 5 years later. I got this game as a Christmas present. I was so happy to get it. That I played it and here it is and I still enjoy playing this game. In fact, X8 is my 4th favorite X game behind X3, X2 and X6. I would not call this a lost game because people knew about it. But I will call it a lost hit. It seems like X8 had decent sells but it was quickly forgotten about. I wonder if it could have been a bigger hit like X2 and X3 were if it was not for the all the negatives X7 had. Sometimes it seems like when a game in a series is bad it effects the other games after that one. I wonder if that is what happened here.

X8 really has the makings of a great game. The story is creative, and tried to offer something new to the series. The graphics are much better and it seemed like Capcom was trying to go back to the roots which made X1-X6 great. The sounds have been fixed in this game. The game has a lot of depth to it similar to the earlier X games. The difficulty is right for a Mega Man Game. I really enjoyed this game and it quickly became one of my favorites.

Now as good as this game was. It is not up there with X2 and X3. Those two games were nearly flawless and were very big hits for the series and SNES. They were some negatives in X8. First of all it did seem like there was a lag in the scrolling stages. It might have been done intentionally to add to the those stages difficulty. But it can cause a lot of problems as it is so easy to get trapped or fall off into the pit. As with any lag it slows the game down. Second while the music was good and fitted the stages nicely. Nothing was really memorable for me like X2, X3 and X6 were. Those three were known to have some of the best music in the X series. The music was not bad at all in this game and I'm not saying that. What I'm saying is the music was good just not great.

If you are like me and consider these negatives to be minor you will find nothing wrong with this game. As I stated this is my 4th favorite X game. I think players will find this game to be a lost hit and a great installment into the X series. I also like it how the game has surprises in store too it will keep you on your toes. Everything a good game has X8 has and its a shame it did not become a bigger  hit then it did. As far as recommending this game. Yes I would recommend this game its a great game and its the last in the X series as of this writing. I give the overall rating a solid 9 out of 10. The minor negatives bring the overall rating down somewhat but they are negative. I really like this game. I hope you take the time out to play this game and I hope you enjoy it the way I did.

God Bless, Shalom, and Blessings in Christ.

tornadocam : Well, this is quite one amazing review Tornado, it got a lot of wording and how a review is meant to be, the only tiny disadvantage I have is the main text is a little too big, but personally, this isn't too much of a big deal though. Keep up the great work man.
