Everybody thinks that they can make the game of football better because they think Roger Goodell is a terrible commissioner. So, what would change? I'll post what I would change later. I'll have to actually think about this one, but I wanted to post this before I forgot about this idea for a thread. I'll post what I would change later. I would immediately review punishment for various crimes. A player shouldn't be suspended for a longer period for possession of marijuana than if they abused their wife. A player shouldn't have a shorter league sentence for killing someone in negligent homicide vs. simple firearm possession. Go over that stuff, Roger, and get it fair. I would move the Buffalo Bills to Toronto and the Jacksonville Jaguars to L.A. I know L.A. is not an NFL town but they may be able to build something around the developing Jags, especially if they sign Ray Rice. I would get rid of any excessive celebration penalties. Football is already ridiculous and over the top with the showmanship. It should rival wrestling for being a spectacle. Let the players be as crazy as they want and one up each other. When Chad OchoCinco was doing all his celebrations, it was plain old fun and people talked about it. Now flags are thrown unless you Barry Sanders the ball to the ref. Entertain us. I would shorten the duration of commercials between touchdown to first play of following drive. I would decrease total commercials and make up the revenue difference by charging more for a commercial. Those companies will still pay and a game will be much more entertaining and draw more fans if it didn't last longer than a Michael Bay movie. Go over that stuff, Roger, and get it fair. thing1 : I would change the playoff system. I would make it so that 8 teams got in to each conference. Good teams like the Eagles got left out and the 7-9 Panthers got in, which is an outrage. |

I would change the season and add two games to it. I would also allow 8 teams from each conference to go to the playoffs. I think that would actually increase interest in the league more since teams that aren't historically good might still occasionally have a chance to make the playoffs. I know if I was a fan of say the Billls and Browns I would love that rule. I would change the season and add two games to it. I would also allow 8 teams from each conference to go to the playoffs. magimangr : RDay13 : So how would you guys go about doing the 8 teams? Would it be division winners plus 4 wild cards, or top 2 from each division? You have to have at least the first one, seeing as how it's not right that you play 6 games against 3 teams just to see who wins the division, and then gets in the playoffs when they go 7-9, and a a 11-5 team doesn't make it. I get that. Personally, I can see either one working. However, the 2nd option make take a bit of the fun out of the playoff race, so I am more for the division winners, and 4 wild card seeds option. Now, I think for seeing it should go 1 - 4 for best record of division winners, and then 5 - 8 would be the wild card teams. The same thing where the lowest seed remaining plays the highest seed remaining should stay intact. However, this would take away the first round bye, so I'm not 100% sure. The 4 division winners and 4 wild card spots work for me. It would give more teams the opportunity to get in the playoffs that might not normally be there. I also have never liked giving teams a bye week. I mean they might like the rest, but really they need to play each week until they are defeated. The teams that don't have the by week seem to do just fine without it and up until very recently seemed to be getting into the Super Bowl just fine. I know the year ny favorite team won the Super Bowl they were the 3 seed and played the 4 seed in the AFC championship game. The 4 division winners and 4 wild card spots work for me. If I was NFL Commissioner I think first I would be less strict when comes to penalties for excessive celebrating, it is a game after all, let the guys have a little fun out there. I would change the overtime rules to allow both teams to have at least one chance on offense. I hate it when a team goes down the field and scores a TD and the other team doesn't even get a chance to match them. The blackout rule would also no longer be in affect because I think its kinda dumb that if a team doesn't sell a certain amount of tickets for a game it wont air on TV locally. |

If I were the NFL commissioner, the first thing I'd change would be suspending players such as Ndamukong Suh who stomp on players heads/arms for far longer than they are now. I would make the suspensions 5 games possibly more for that kind of absurd behavior. |

I think this is a good question. The first thing I would change as the NFL Commissioner is how they change so many things every year. That's right, my one big change would be to STOP CHANGING EVERYTHING. I understand player safety and everything. Some changes are needed, I get that. But I've been watching football for over 25 years and it's literally not the game I grew up watching at this point. It screws up history too because when you look at old stats you can't compare old players with new players because they played a totally different game. I HATE that they discuss eliminating extra points and just having two point conversions and things like that. They keep trying to make the game better but nothing was wrong with it in the first place. Don't take football out of football. I hate how defensive players get flagged simply for hard hits now, even when those hits are perfectly legal. The officiating is now designed to punish good defense. I guess if I changed anything, it would be to change some of the things BACK to the way they were. I really miss when all the kickoffs weren't touchbacks too. I could complain forever about this but I'll just mention one more ridiculous thing for now. I hate when a pass rusher gets a 15 yard penalty literally because his hand touched the QB's helmet after he threw. That's gotta be one of the stupidest calls I see and it happens a lot. It's not even a hit, most of the time it's barely a touch and if anything it probably hurts the pass rusher's hand if it actually hits the QB's helmet. I think this is a good question. The main things I would change are similar to what was stated by Kryptic in the post above mine.
The game has catered too much to Fantasy stats and offense in general. To the point where a good defense is now defined by a team that doesn't give up more than 3-4 TDS in a game...which is kinda sad really. They have made it to where Defensive hits on the QB are almost ALWAYS flagged and has SEVERELY hampered the ability of DB's to make plays and tackles in the open field. Also, why make changes to the Extra point and the Kickoffs? You know what they always say. If it aint broke, don't fix it. I would also back away from this stance that the commish takes regarding what players wear on the field. I understand you have to wear a proper uniform, but giving out fines to players whom wear different colored cleats/socks/etc seems VERY silly. Who cares what socks/cleats a player wears? As long as it's not offending anyone, let them be. The game has catered too much to Fantasy stats and offense in general. Eliminate the Pro-Bowl. Or make it count for something. I have no idea what though. Maybe the MVP of the game could get a million bucks or something. I know the winners get a higher pay out than the losers but if you're already in the Pro-Bowl, I don't think you're as worried about 50 grand. I would lean towards either getting rid of it or somehow making it a real skills competition. Then guys might compete for bragging rights anyways. Pass accuracy, sprints, weights, obstacle course would be good for running backs maybe. It's not like it used to be anymore. It started in the late eighties I think when guys started not going because they either just didn't want to or they weren't under contract currently. I mean, if your peers elected you to go, you should go. No fan voting either. That's just dumb. Look at baseball this year. |
