Our dog was given to us by my uncle's family. We also have a corn snake which I think we got from a pet store, but that was when I was in 3rd or 4th grade and I'm now a college grad, so it's been a while. We used to have a cat (it died now) and that was given to us by an extended family member as well.

Both of my cats were given to me/my family. My first cat Snowballs was given to me by my Aunt. She was moving and couldn't take him with her, so she ended up giving him to me. My other cat TJ was given to my family by my old neighbours. Their cat had kittens and they were going to give them to a shelter, but we took one in.

I have multiple pets: 2 dogs, 1 cat, and 1 bunny. I got my dogs from separate animal shelters, my cat was given to my family by my mom's friend, and my bunny was given to my family by someone I had as a neighbor before I moved to the house I live in now. My mom's friend gave his cat away because the cat was very afraid and unhappy where he lived before. His brother kept getting in fights with him or just being a jerk. I don't know why my former neighbor gave her bunny away to my family though.
