I don't know how many people saw this movie, but it was the 80's version of "CLUE," based on the board game. The movie itself took place in the 1950s, during the Cold War, in which all those eccentric Clue characters end up in a mansion because they're being blackmailed by the host, Mr. Boddy. He offers them the chance to either kill his butler and return to their daily lives, still paying him as he continues to blackmail them, or reveal him (and their secrets) to the police. When Mr. Boddy himself dies, though, everyone turns on each other and tries to figure out 'Whodunnit?' (pun intended) As the movie progresses, the characters become more fleshed out, the plot thickens, and it is revealed every single one either worked for the government or betrayed it in some way (remember, this is in the Cold War; for example, one character was actually selling American secrets to Soviet spies, while another was selling out war equipment, and a third was married to a man trying to beat the Russians in building nuclear weapons). The movie is ultra-cheesy, which is actually the point! It's a hilarious comedy that doesn't take anything seriously, and it really lightens up the mood of what would otherwise be a very dark film (considering Ms. Scarlett, Ms. White, and the others' businesses, some of which I think was a bit too much to handle its PG rating). Random quirky characters like the Singing Telegram Girl , Ivette the French Maid, the Cook, and the Random Police Officer (that's what the credits call him!) really take the cake. The best thing, though, was the fact that they incorporated the fact that multiple endings are possible, just like how the game has a different scenario every time. The movie actually has three endings, in which a different person killed Mr. Boddy in a different manner. The best ending, however, was the one in which *slight spoiler* it turns out everyone but Mr. Green had killed somebody in the mansion*. It was hilarious how in each of the endings, someone would yell, "It was ____ in the ______ with the ______!" just like in the game. It's a pretty funny movie, and I wholeheartedly recommend seeing it, even though the first twenty minutes or so are a bit slow to start and there is some mild kissing scenes and sex references, but as I said earlier, it is rated PG. Though I also feel compelled to warn you that one of the characters owns a showgirl business, which does not make an appearance but is referenced throughout. All in all, I think it's a pretty great movie, and it made pretty good memories for me. I actually saw it on Netflix. (It should also be noted that The Neverending Story owns a special place in my heart as well, but it is just too amazing to express in words, so I picked CLUE instead). Since you are covering two decades, I need two answers. 80s: I was only 6 but I loved Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. It had the right balance between humor (How dare you kiss me?!) and action. However, the "wrong chalice" sequence can be quite frightening. 90s: I will go with Philadelphia. Tom Hank's acting was out of this world, Denzel Washington's was excellent too (and his apparent detachment from Hank's "situation" made the character even better) and Bruce Springsteen's theme song was sadly memorable. 80s: I was only 6 but I loved Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. My favorite movie from the 90's is Forrest Gump. In fact, that's my favorite movie of all time. Two other movies from the 90's I'd put up there among my favorites of all time are The Lion King, which I think is the greatest animated movie of all time, and Terminator 2: Judgment Day, which is my all time favorite sequel. My favorite movie from the 80's would either be Star Wars episode 5 or 6, or Terminator. I can't decide between those 3 classics. |

This one isn't even close for me. My favorite movie from the 80s - 90s is definitely Liar, Liar with Jim Carrey. I am constantly watching this movie over and over again, and I never get tired of it. I haven't stopped and counted how many times I've watched it but I bet its literally a million times! Its also my favorite movie of all time with Jim Carrey, who is also one of my favorite actors. My favorite part in that movie is when he gets pulled over by the cop, and Jim Carrey has to tell the cop "why he pulled him over." Obviously, I won't tell you what he says but let me tell you, its hilarious! If you've never seen this movie, you are really missing out! I'm probably gonna get flak for some of these, because even I will admit they are bad (one in particular), but...that's kind of why I like them. I grew up with these horrible things and thought they were hilarious even then, as bad as they were. This does not mean I have a B-movie sense of humour, thank you, it just means I still think hilarity can be found even in things that are AWFUL. And trust me, at least one of these is horrible. Please note that these are not in any particular order, either. I'm just writing them as I remember them. 1. Short Circuit --1986. Not bad in any shape, form, or fashion. One of the few movies I will fight with you over if you say it is bad, and this is coming from a hopelessly shy person. 2. Super Mario Bros. The Movie -- 1992. This is the one I was talking about. I KNOW it is HORRIBLE. I know. I own it on DVD and I watch it fairly regularly. I know it is BAD. But I love it. It is just so...corny, so cheesy, so wrong in so many ways but it is so good in its awfulness. XD 3.Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles -- 1990. I have no words for this. It speaks for itself. It is the live-action embodiment of the original cartoon and I could not ask for more, nor would I ever want to. Plus it is the first movie of its type (aka made from a cartoon that my mother tended to frown at me watching) that I got my mom to watch with me, and she LOVED it. I would love it for that simple reason if nothing else. 4. My Neighbor Totoro -- 1988. First Studio Ghibli film I ever saw. I was...four, I think, when my parents rented it. I was enchanted and have been enchanted ever since. I can still remember waiting outside in the dark for the catbus to come get me, and I remember pretending soot sprites were staying warm by our fi 5. Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi -- 1983. I admit, I am a Star Wars geek. Have been since age two when, according to my parents, I told them that Yoda was cute and I wanted him to spend the night with me. (And this after screaming my lungs out watching E.T....) This has never changed, and probably never will...and Return of the Jedi is my favourite of the originals anyway. Jabba the Hutt, the SARLACC, Boba Fett (who wound up being my favourite 'villain' to the point that I dressed as him for Halloween one year), and the Ewoks. I always hated this one as much as I loved it because of Yoda's death, but since you see his spirit again in the end I never felt totally upset. 6. The Land Before Time -- 1988. Dinosaurs. Dinosaurs and sadness and a long journey and music and cute and REALLY SAD BREAK MY HEART MOMENTS THAT STILL GET ME EVERY TIME. *cough* This one has stood the test of time, and nothing beats the original, though The Land Before Time 2 comes decently close, what with Chomper and all. Just...were Don Bluth cartoons of the late '80's and early '90's PURPOSEFULLY designed to break kids' hearts? Because they were REALLY GOOD AT IT. and last but not least... 7. Prehysteria! -- 1993. Another one that's considered along the same lines of 'bad' as the Mario Bros. movie. It involved a kid hatching miniature dinosaurs, aaand as a preschool-aged child, that was all that counted to me. TINY LIVING DINOSAURS LIVING IN A HOUSE WITH HUMANS. I was sold. I still like the movie, actually, despite the bad label. It's gotta be the Home Alone series. It's become one of my favorite movie series to date just because of how cleverly and well-thought out the elements in the series are. I prefer the original 2, as they set the standard for the franchise. |

This is a toughie. 80s and 90s had some great movies, but probably my favorite amongst all these would have to be The Neverending Story. The movie was wholesome and easy on the eyes to watch and even easier to follow as it seemed to me the story moved at a steady clip. |

The 80's and 90's had some good films. It's hard to choose one, but I'll give my, absolute, favourites. For the 80's, I'll have to go with Back to the Future trilogy. I chose Back to the Future since it was a great movie and always had me watching and I don't think there was a single time I was bored waiting for a scene to end, as I thought all the scenes were crafted greatly. For the 90's, this one is hard. My two absolute favourites for this era are Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas and Forrest Gump, but I'll have to go with Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. I liked it personally because it was entertaining and the whole theme was entertaining and this is one of the films I'd watch over and over and never get tired of it.
