I am going to be reviewing Mega Man 3 Ridley X hack #3,  yeah that is a long title. I will be reviewing and comparing it to Mega Man 3, which this hack is based off of

Story: 8
The story remains the same as the original Mega Man 3 game. Ridley's Hack #3 did not bring anything new to the story line. The story is, Dr Wily has come to his senses and is helping Dr. Light build a peace keeping robot. But, to power it they need to get the crystals and elements from the mines. The mines are being ran by 8 new robots. Dr. Light tells mega man to stop whoever is in charge there he is a crazy guy. Mega Man heads out to get the elements for Gamma and discovers that the robots are being controlled by a familiar foe.

Okay in the original game I gave the story a high rating. Mostly, because I thought it was creative. In the original game the true bad guy was not given away in the plot. Since the plot is unchanged I give it a solid rating again. The only thing I would have liked to have seen is maybe some changes, but not a lot of changes. The maker of this game could have made some minor changes to make the familiar plot a little more creative. Still, I give it an 8 out of 10

Graphics and Controls: 8
Ridley's hack part 3 changes the backgrounds. Instead of using Mega Man 3 backgrounds the maker of this game uses Mega Man 1 and 2 backgrounds. Despite using the first two games' backgrounds the color is very good. This hack has some really colorful background. I really like how the maker of this game did that. Also the designs of the stages fit the robot masters nicely. For example, Gemini Man has an ice them, which is borrowed from Ice Man's stage. I also like how the layout was changed in the stages compared to the original game. However, there were some minor issues with this hack. They are some glitchy parts in the game. They are minor and since this is a hack I am not surprised they are a few glitches. Also, a few times in the game they are some minor lags in the game. But overall, the graphics in this hack were nicely done

The controls in this game hack were surprisingly good. The controls feel a lot like the original Mega Man 3 which is quite nice. Mega Man 3 is noted for having very smooth controls. So I was glad to see this hack maintain that. In fact, not one time did the controls feel sluggish at all.  For this to be a hack, the graphics and controls are very nicely done. As with most hacks there were a few minor issues such as the glitches and lagging at times. Still, at the end of the day I give the graphics and controls a solid rating of 8 out of 10

Sound: 9
The sound in this hack was unchanged from the original game. Mega Man 3 had very awesome sounds to it. The music was awesome, the enemy sounds were nice, and the weapon sounds were awesome as well.  The music of this hack was left unchanged. The stages still have their same themes as they did in the original game. I found the music to be groovy and relaxing. So I was glad whoever made this game did not change the music. The weapons still make awesome sounds. The enemies still have their exploding sounds when you kill them or when they crash into you. When I first played this hack I was concerned that they would have changed the sound. I'm glad to say I was wrong. However, there was a time or two were It did seem like there was a tingle or two in the game. I give the sound a very good rating of 9 out of 10

Replay Value (addictiveness): 8
The replay value in this game is pretty good. Mega Man 3 had a special charm to it that made it fun to play over again and again. This hack maintains that feel. With the stage layouts the only thing being changed, this game really has a good replay value. It might not be the exact same as Mega Man 3, due to some changes, but it has a good feel. It will make you want to replay it again. Thus, I give the replay value a solid 8 out of 10.

Depth: 7
Ridley's Hack part 3 has quite a bit of depth to it. First of all, just like in the original game they are weapons and items to collect. By beating a robot master you get their weapon. Also there are some secret areas in stages to explore. Some of the secrets have items in them. However, they were some changes from the original game. The first game had mystery tanks in them, which you had to shoot, to reveal the item. Ridley's Hack part 3 did away with the mystery tanks for the most part. Also the stages have been made shorter compared to the original game. The Original game had longer stages, which meant more secret areas, and more items to collect. So by shortening the stages and doing away with the mystery tanks that brings the depth rating down some from the original game. Ridley's Hack still has quite a bit of depth to it not as much as the original game though. So, I give the depth rating a good 7/10 rating.

Difficulty: 9
Mega Man 3 had its difficult spots in it but it was not too bad. Ridley's Hack really ups the difficulty. The difficult in this game can be brutal at times and can also make you want to scream. First of all, the enemy placement in this game is what can bury you. Enemies have been sped up to move faster, and appear quicker. Due to the enemies being sped up it gives the you little time to react. In addition,  enemies just love to hit you from behind and they also do more damage compared to the original game.  Due to the changes in the stages' layouts it is so easy to fall into a pit. It is so easy to miss a jump and fall to your doom. Also a lot of the stages also require you to use special power ups to get there.  Unlike the original game this hack really shines on difficulty. The one thing that was not changes is you can put in a password to have the maximum e-tanks so that helps some.

Still, this is a very difficult game. It is the difficulty that I like though. I like games that test your skills and this one will. Due to enemies being faster it will also test your reflexes too. I had fun playing this game and while the difficulty made me want to scream at times; I found it to be fun. I give the difficulty rating of this hack a very high score of 9 out of 10.

Overall: 8.8
Mega Man 3 had everything a good game has, good graphics, good sound, high replay value, depth, and the right amount of difficulty. No doubt, that is why Mega Man 3 was such a huge hit and continues to have that charm. Ridley's Hack maintains most of that charm. The sound is very good for it to be a hack. The replay value is still very good compared to the original game. I really had fun playing Ridley's Hack and I can't wait to see how the other Ridley Mega Man hacks are compared to their original games. I was glad that Ridley's hack kept most of the charm the original game had.

Keeping the amazing stage themes was a nice tough. Even though the graphics were recycled versions of Mega Man 1 and 2 they were nicely done. The colors were nicely done. The difficulty in this game was really bumped up from the original game. Some players may not like that, but I'm the type of guy that loves a challenge. So the maker of this game bumping up the difficulty was also very nice.

For this to be a hack they were only some minor issues. The first being there were some minor glitches. But as I stated earlier this being a hack I would expect some glitches. Another minor issue was toning down the depth. The first game had the mystery blocks, that would hide items in them, this hack did away with them. I found the mystery hacks add to the original game's depth. So I was a little disappointed that those were removed.  As far as recommending this hack. Yes, I would recommend this hack. It is a very good hack and keeps most of Mega Man 3's charm. The difficulty may get some players but I think most players will find this to be an awesome hack. I was glad to see this hack maintain the original games charm. I have played hacks that were absolutely horrible. This hack is not horrible. I give the overall rating of this hack a good 8.8. I hope you take the time to play this hack and I hope you enjoy playing it just like I did.
