Square...

Circle...

Triangle…

Long ago, these three shapes were one. They were three distinct beings, yet they formed one body. Together, they went on many adventures. Square was regularly afraid, and stayed put most of the time. Circle loved to roll around and take in the scenery. And lastly, Triangle loved to bounce around, as he was very good at jumping.

But one day, they found themselves in a dark room. In the center of this room lay a semicircle that wished to become whole. This could only happen if a dual-colored, miniature circle was inserted inside it. Three of these circles resided on the left, but only one was accessible at first, and only Triangle could reach it. Together, they inserted the circle into the bigger semicircle and entered into a new world for the first time…

This world was full of shapes and sounds! After experimenting around, they found out that the shapes in this world moved in accordance with the wondrous sounds ringing in their ears. The touch of static and falls into oblivion meant certain death, but this didn't deter the heroes. There were checkpoints that would save them in case of emergencies, after all.

Also, they found many more semicircles in this world that would respond to circles like the one they found in the dark room. Inserting the circles into the semicircles changed the world around them in wonderful ways! This enabled them to press onward and reach the end of the world, where a great challenge awaited them. Working together, they managed to defeat this challenge.

At the end of the challenge, they were surprised to find themselves back in the room! One thing had changed: A new circle that was previously unreachable could now be gotten! Circle and Triangle worked together to get this circle, and they all headed off into the new world…

This new world was filled with shapes that changed form and long, winding paths that could disappear in an instant. This world, too, was filled with the semicircles, circles, and checkpoints of before. Everyone’s skills were needed here, as in the other world. Eventually, they reached another difficult challenge. But they persevered, and were rewarded with another trip back to the dark room.

Finally, they were able to access the final world. “Do we really wanna do this?”, Square asked. They had already taken the circle they would need to access the final world. Circle hesitantly rolled towards the semicircle...Then Triangle jumped in!

In this final world, there were more shapes that changed form, much more static, and bouncy platforms that quickly turned to static. Yes, our heroes would be tried and tested before they reached the final room. But reach it, they did. In this room, they were forced to endure a challenging, psychedelic rhythm game. But they finally persevered! “Yippie! We did it!”, they shouted...then BAM!

They were back in the dark room.

Their celebrations quickly turned to frustration, anger, and ultimately, sorrow. Why in the world did they even attempt these challenges in the first place? Circle spent his time moping around, hoping for a solution, but found nothing. Triangle jumped high and low, but couldn’t find anything. Square just stayed put until…”What’s that? At the far right?”, he asked. Sure enough, there was an opening where there was none before. Circle rolled and rolled until he saw them: Three new circles, ready to be inserted into the big semicircle! “Yippee!”, they all shouted.

They quickly grabbed the first circle and headed off into the new world...only it wasn’t new. It was just the first world, mirrored and with different colors. “Aw, man!”, Square shouted. Adding to their frustration was the fact that all checkpoints were gone. One mistake, and they would be sent back to the dark room…

But they persevered. They made mistakes, but time and time again, they never gave up. After making their way through all three mirror worlds they found themselves...in the dark room.

“NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!”, they all shouted, and there was screaming and wailing and gnashing of teeth.

They would remain in that room forever.

Pros:

Wonderful art
Distinctive soundtrack
Tight gameplay

Cons:

Short
Not very replayable

Presentation: 10/10
Graphics: 9.5/10
Sound: 9/10
Gameplay: 8.5/10
Lasting Appeal: 7/10

Overall: 8.8/10

Nota Bene: 140 is a very short game. The main game will take maybe an hour, and the aftergame will probably take a bit longer. Yet 140 is a game that must be experienced. It won’t appeal to everyone, but what cannot be denied is its artistic flavor, both in sound and in art direction.

If it wasn’t clear in the review, you switch between 3 shapes: A square, a circle, and a triangle. The shape is square when stationary, circle when rolling (moving on the ground), and triangle when jumping.

supernerd117 : I never
played this game but have seena  few videos and think that it does look quite interesting, though I think it's quite odd, and you're right about how short it is, I have heard that some people beat the entire game in just over half an hour. Even though it looks very fun, I doubt a game of this length would be too appealing for me.
