i don’t consider myself MUCH of a mega man fan, I’ve only beat 3 games out of the whole classic series! But I think I’ve played enough of the fourth to give an honest opinion. So here we go! This is my review of mega man 4.
Story (8): This is the first game in the series to have a (as I like to call them) “decoy villains” in this case, Dr. Mikhail Sergeyevich Cossack. A Russian evil scientist with a daughter named Kalinka. He and Kalinka are kidnapped by Dr. Wily, but wily decides to spare him in exchange for defeating mega man. (or captured him for the reason, idk.) So when mega man hears about Dr. Cossacks (wily’s) intentions to take over the world, mega man hurries to stop Cossack! (Wily, lol)
Sound (9): OH DAYUM does the music sound good. Skull man’s being my favorite. Almost every music track in this game sounds good. With a few being about grade-b tracks. However, this IS mega man we’re talking about, so is that so unorthodox?
Graphics (9): The graphics are quite well made. I personally love some of the details in the background. Like the little skulls in the walls of skull man’s stage. Or the piles of trash in dust man’s stage. my most favorite detail being the gears and the lights in Bright man’s stage. ( even if it’s difficult to see where you are going.) The only thing I hate about the graphics are when sprite flickering happens. But that’s a problem with almost every NES game, so it won’t much of a problem.
Depth (6): Depth? HAH! You won’t find any type of depth here. The game can take you about 2-3 hours. And if you’re really good, about 30 minutes to an hour. To put it simply, you go beat 8 robot masters. Go to Cossack’s lair, go beat Cossack, go to WILY’S lair, and finally, go beat wily. That simple. But since you can choose the robot masters in whatever order you want, I’ll bump the depth up to a 6.
Addictiveness (7): I can’t really say that this is an addictive game, it only takes about 30 minutes to 3 hours to beat. But you can set self-challenges for yourself, so that’s something. And you can also try to pull a Roahm Mythril and try to do a perfect run against them all. So I’ll bump it up to a 7 like the last one.
Difficulty (9): By today’s standards, this game is just brutal. If you play a lot of “hand-holding” games and this is your first time playing mega man, then you will most likely get very angry at this game. It has a lot of the things that NES games are riddled with: Knockback, enemies that hit like trucks at times, bottomless pits, spikes, and too much more to talk about. This game will test your patience if this is your first time playing the game. (unless you play mega man a lot.)
Overall (9.3): If you ask me, this game holds up exceptionally well by today’s standards. The game has a lot of fun moments, has a good soundtrack, good graphical capabilities for the time in which it was made, and a decent story to boot. If you still have an NES and you haven’t played this game, go play it! Or you can buy it off the 3ds E-shop for $4.99. IMO, mega man 4 is the best mega man game I’ve played. Thank you for stopping by, this is Mega Mewtwo x: Signing out.
