Hello my lovely audience. It is i relinquish,The best Pokemon reviwer of all time.However...Thing's have not been looking good for a certain Pokemon type.Anyone want to guess what that type is...?

The Dragon types. For those who don't play Pokemon competitively there has been a recent "Shift" In the meta game. And this shift has caused Dragon types to become a bit ineffective.

And this was not something that happened overtime. This was sudden and apparent.People are dropping them from there teams.Uproars on the smogon forums. And currently there only saviors are,Hydreigon.Goodra.Salamence.And a bit of Garchomp sprinkled in the batter.

There just not working. And they already had it hard enough. But with these new Fairy type moves in the game,There just getting pelted into the ground. They take to long to level.

There just to "Gimmicky".All of these are complaints from people on the Smogon forums. And many others. And get this,As of may 4th,It is officially,The 10th least used Pokemon type in the entire meta game.

That's insane...Granted,It is at the bottom of the barrel of least used Pokemon,And they are still powerful.
And while that's all fine and good. This begs a bigger question.

Were Dragon types even worth it in the first place?

This is a question that has been "Rattling" In my brain for a while.Even when i think of the older generations,I always had a bit of love and hate with the dragon types.Sure you get a few good flares that flicker in the dark. (Hydreigon.Salamence.Garchomp)  But for the most part they were...Well decent-Great.Granted,There are VERY few dragon types anyone would call "Bad" Or "Terrible" But there are some that are less effective. However,In my opinion. The best way to study something is to go directly to it's origins. So let's say we go back to the original dragon type?

Dragonite.

OKAY OKAY.STOP SOAKING UP THE SCREEN!

Who couldn't love that cute.Adorable.Reskinned Barney the dinosaur. The first dragon type ever created.Well...Not technically. But you get my point. This Pokemon was based around being weak from the start,And being powerful in the end And to be fair...This was not a bad concept. It made kids feel happy after they finally got Dratini to it's final evolution.

And this was also at the time when gamefreak and nintendo didn't even comprehend the idea of Pokemon making this much money. And having such a large fanbase. So they did not really Have to think of the idea of "Balance" In Pokemon. And once again.Dragonite had a interesting concept.

You needed to start from the bottom,To get to the top.As you have to do with most Pokemon. And with life in general. However,The dragon types are a bit different.Sure you have to start off with the worst form imaginable. And get the most powerful form ever in the end

But the dragon types took a Particularly long time to level. Most kids would not see there Dragonite until they got to the elite 4.And that was IF,They could survive the way there. And to this day,That is the main focus of most dragon types. The goal is "Start from the bottom,And get to the top.

" Hebi,And Taka. (Naruto reference that nobody will get..)

Sadly,Over supply has shortend the rarity of that concept. Some Pokemon that are not even dragon types follow this pattern. And while it may be fun after you get your dragon type to it's final evolution. But once you try it again with a different dragon type,It's not going to be fun..Like at all.And overtime you will get tired of it.It's just to time consuming
And if you want to be competitive. That's a whole different story.Breeding correctly.EV training. And then surviving until you can get to your final stage. Now that is bad enough.

But now something even worse has happened to our "Underdogs" Something that came from the current generation of Pokemon.

Fairy Types.

"Get your dragon hunting gear boys. Were going Drake huntin." This new type has uh...Really made things interesting for our winged friends. This is a new defense that our overlords at gamefreak thought of,Because they believed that dragon types were a bit "Overpowered" well i can assure you. They were not.Alot of people were complaining that they had so
Many defenses. And offenses. So this type was made to balance things out.And they have definetly achieved that (To say the least) These new guys have been dominating right now.

And the funny thing is.Alot of the fairy types are Decent-Great.But there moves can be learned by ALOT of other Pokemon. And that is the problem. You can give there most powerful moves
To a Pokemon that already has a natural defense againstDragon types..Okay.basically steel types. And just watch as they mow them down. It's to easy to counter them now.And one of the dragon types most effective Defenses,And my favorite Dragon type.Hyrdreigon.Get's 4x's the pain from these moves.Which is actually effecting his spot in teams.Quite ironic actually. The Dragon types biggest Defense,Has the biggest weakness.

Anyhow.I can go on forever with my thoughts. But what i really want to hear are your's.Do you think the dragon types are starting to get up there in years? Or do you still think they are as powerful as ever? Tell me down below. In the mean time,I gotta go get finished with my review for my next Pokemon.See yah.

Honestly, I hate the fairy types with a passion, they just messed everything up for dragons, and I don't think fairy has enough weaknesses besides steel and poison if I'm not mistaken. I am sure they will just keep tossing in more new types of pokemon to screw up the effectiveness of another type and throw everything off even more.

I still use dragon types though, especially in pokemon x because even though dragons take a while to level up, it becomes slightly too easy to do in x because you can just use an o power and rapidly level up in the chateau or anywhere else. I like using hydreigon, salamence, garchomp and all of the cool dragon types. Sure, fairy types are annoying, but I tend to create a balanced team and try not to keep it all one type, so with fairy I would more than likely throw a steel type in there just to be on the safe side. Overall though I think that fairy types are really annoying and lame, but I try not to let it ruing my gaming experience.

I don't exactly like the new fairy type, but i'm not hating it either. Gamefreak tried to balance the metagame (a.k.a Make Poison and Steel attacks more common, and at the same time, make Dragon types less common). I don't think it worked that way though. If anything, all the changes made Ghost types more powerful (Ghost can hit through Steel, and Fairies made Dark types less common).

The main point about Dragons is: In the "normal" game, Dragons will always be Dragons. They are rare, take some time to evolve, and are powerful when they reach the final evolution. This comes based on stats + movepool, so they're always going to be powerful in the end.

In competitive play, well... They are still powerful. The only thing Dragons can't do anymore is spam Outrage, since that gives a free switch to an incoming fairy type. Apart from that, Dragons didn't lose a lot. Okay, Fairy types don't take damage from Dragon attacks, but Dragons have enough coverage moves to deal with most fairies. No fairy is going to enjoy an Earthquake/Coverage move from Garchomp/Salamence/Haxorus.

Long story short: Dragons are still powerful. But they're never going to be as dominant as they used to be in Gen V.
And as a last note: Poor Hydreigon

I like the fairy type. They are not too overpowered. I mean seriously I have got the crap kicked out of me every time i fought a dragon team because they have new strategies for fairies like putting a steel move on every single pokemon.

I feel really bad in particular for hydreigon when it comes to fairies because it is both dark and dragon which only makes matters worse when it comes to dealing with fairy types. I agree that fairies aren't overpowered or anything, but I', still not really all that crazy about them, but I guess they have their uses in balancing things out more. I still enjoy having a good few dragons in my team though.

I like to use sludge bomb on Goodra to troll fairy types.....except the fact that mawile is FAIRY STEEL! URGH! I HATE THOSE THINGS! On top of that mawile has a mega evolution so I get destroyed every time! CURSE YOU MEGA MAWILE! CURSE YOU!....huff huff ....sorry I just needed to get my rage out. But back on topic, yeah dragon types are a bit less useful but at the same time its a bit more balanced. And if your like me and are trying to super train your Goodra....I just hope I can get its poor defense up.

The newer ones might not be as strong as they used to but they all have strengths in different areas. The older ones are still as powerful as ever.
