My Vizzed YouTube account recently received a "strike" because of one of the commercials in the channel. A strike places limitations on to a YouTube account and 3 strikes result into an account suspension so for that reason I'll be removing all of the commercials from the Vizzed YouTube account in the near future.

The commercial which caused my account to get the strike was "Kingdom Hearts - Retro Commercial / Trailer - 2002 Squaresoft" and the copyright claim was from "EMI Records Japan" on Mar 28, 2014. It's beyond me why someone would make a big deal about a commercial, especially since it advertises a product. I really think the copyright laws are just getting more and more ridiculous all the time.

I really hate to have to remove all the commercials because they're very nostalgic and I know a lot of people, including myself, love to watch them. So if anyone enjoys them as much as I do, be sure to watch as many as you can within the next 24 hours and download any that you might want to preserve on your computer.

After the commercials have been removed, the Vizzed YouTube account will be completely focused on just gameplay videos made with the RGR Plugin. The original purpose of the channel was suppose to be everything game related but now because of the commercial removal, I think I'll have the account just dedicated to gameplay videos and I'll be making additional YouTube accounts for other types of videos (for example, I eventually want to make an account dedicated to Video Game music). I may also rename the current Vizzed YouTube account at some point, maybe to something like 'Vizzed Video Game Videos' or something similar.

Edit: I just found out that my Vizzed YouTube account now has a 15 minute limit because of this! This has huge negative affect on the RGR and the competitions.

Davideo7 : Speaking of which have you ever thought of monetizing the vizzed videos so you get ad revenue. Or would that be a strike for lack of commentary.

Or maybe you could start doing LP's but have someone on here who has editing experience edit them and post them on an account for an extra source of income for you

mourinhosgum : I've thought about monetizing the Vizzed videos but planned on reserving that idea for if vizzed ever got into a serious financial situation. Now that the account has a strike though, I'm unable to monetize the videos now. I'm not sure if a strike eventually goes away though, hopefully they do.

Davideo7 :

I'm not sure if they do, but even if you decided to monetize the videos, it would be an uphill battle, that wouldn't be worth it. I watch a few LP'ers on Youtube from time to time, and they've vlogged about how they have to remove monetization even though they are within the law of fair use.

Vizzed is a bit more suspect, given the nature of this site. (ROM Sites are never looked upon well)

Risk vs. Reward tells me the small reward you'd get from monetizing the videos wouldn't be worth the risk of having a big company want to come after Vizzed.

That's quite ridiculous.  I don't understand why they'd want to just up and do that.  It's not as bad as "I Had a Dream" being monetized, but it's still not cool.  Kingdom Hearts is one of my favorite games, and to see a strike come because of a commercial for it is sad.

legacyme3 : That's a good point. Yeah as I said, I never really had any intents of monetizing the videos on the Vizzed YouTube account anyway, I only ever planned to use my personal account for stuff like that.

supernerd117 : Yeah it's ridiculous, I'd host the videos myself if videos weren't so large.

I just found out that my Vizzed YouTube account now has a 15 minute limit because of this! This has huge negative affect on the RGR and the competitions. That is just ridiculous, I'll see if there's anything I can do to increase it again

Oh my goodness.... A 15 minute limit on the vizzed youtube account? :O

Anyways, from what I have heard/know, copyright strikes usually expire after 6 months. You're account will be fine as long as you complete some copyright school thingy (I don't know much about that) and receive no additional strikes during those 6 months. Though, what scares me is that I have heard youtubers complaining saying that it has been more than 6 months and they still have their strikes....

Hopefully this helps, check this page out: https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/2814000?hl=en

Those copyright claims just get more ridiculous everyday.

Also, my own youtube account has a strike (I got one at last January), though, it's a community guidelines strike, not a copyright one. And it didn't appear to have affected my account in anyway since it is my first time.

Good luck....

That really sucks. And that pisses me off how the copyrights thingy is doing nowadays. I'm always scared when I upload my videos on my channel. I mean, the person or the thing in charge of this is really competent, I can tell *cough cough* It can't even spot the difference between a re orchestration and an original tune (yep, I got that issue and I'm still kind of tempted to make a dispute). The worst thing, I usually use some free music for my current Minecraft adventure. All the musics I use come from a website "incompetech.com" and are made by an amazing composer named Kevin MacLeod. One of these songs is called "Dopplerette" and, at one point, Youtube said it was a song called "Blame" by The Face, claimed by CD-Baby. I made a dispute, telling them it was another song and I gave the credits as always to the respective author and they removed the claims. The same thing happened a few days later with the same exact song and the same exact claim. I sent another dispute and they removed the claim. Ok, once it's ok, I can understand nothing and nobody is perfect... Twice, no just no. It's either they fix that thing, or they update their database everytime there's a dispute. Anyway, I hope everything will be alright soon. However, I can be wrong but I think you can't get the unlimited length anymore. I'm not sure at 100%, that's why it has to be proven.

Ah and the strike goes away in six months yes... if no other strike occurs :/

I have heard from a lot of people, most reviewers saying that alot of their videos has been flagged and taken down and they don't know why. The fair use doctrine should cover what we are doing but Youtube just doesn't care. It is really getting on my nerves.

Laian : I recently discovered Kevin MacLeod actually, I love how he lets people use his music for free, you don't find many generous people these days, especially composers.

All these YouTube issues I think could result into the death of YouTube someday.

Davideo7 :
Other composers have the same intentions. For example, Antti Martikainen. I discovered this composer while looking for a relaxing Japanese song and he made one. His tunes can be used and downloaded for free (his albums as well) as long as you give the credits to him. It works with any indie composer who let people use their work for free actually.

Oh and don't worry about Youtube, it's on the way to the "funeral box". Exactly since it has been bought by Google ha ha

If I were to host the videos myself, here's how much it'd cost...

There have been around 70,000 minutes worth of RGR Gameplay videos added to the YouTube account. If I compressed them all at around 10 MB per a minute (which is 720p, more than good enough quality), they'd take up about 700,000 MB. The estimated cost of a server to support that would be around an extra $200 a month. If we exceeded 1 TB, than the estimated server cost would be around an extra $400 a month.

So it would be pretty costly for Vizzed to have to host the Gameplay videos instead of relying on YouTube. However, I'd probably be able to monetize them all myself which could potentially bring in enough revenue to cover the additional server fees. It's something I'll think about if YouTube ever gets out of hand or completely suspends my account (and when they suspend, they delete all the videos too).

Laian : Yeah I don't agree with the things that Google has been doing over the past few years.

I'm just glad that this won't affect staff jobs for those who do gameplay recording, provided we upload 15 15 minute videos per day for 9-10 days out of the month. Just means more work in editing things down, finding good places to cut videos without going over.

sonikku : Yeah it does make the jobs more difficult. I should probably make a separate thread regarding the 15 minute limit and summon the staff to it.

I don't understand why these videos are being flagged. They only promote the games and companies. Common sense tells me that free publicity is a good thing.

As for Vizzed's commercial issue, I don't get that either. Again, publicity. And besides that, it's an old commercial, so it isn't like you're hosting their current material without consent. The whole thing is dumb, really.

Eirinn : I think companies like to abuse their powers in order to make themselves appear more powerful than what they are or should be. In no way was that commercial hurting them financially when it was on the Vizzed YouTube account.
