Well, hey guys. So, I guess I'm gonna go ahead and continue on with my Sonic hacks marathon review for this month before I start making non-sonic reviews next month. So, anyways, let us jump to the review!

Intro: Delta? An Enhanced beta?

Well, as some of you who read my reviews before may already know, I like to start them out with the first possible questions that may come up to mind the first time you see a game. So, the first question that came up to my mind before I tried this Sonic hack for the first time was "Delta?". From what I know, "Delta" is the number 4 in Greek terms and/or a mathematical variable, but, I'm certainly no genius here so I don't really know much. Now, to be honest, I don't really know how/why this sonic hack was named, "Sonic 2 Delta", but it certainly caught my attention the first time I found this game like a week ago. I have always been planning to review it.

So, to explain what this Sonic hack is, I'm guessing it is a hack of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 featuring lots of characteristics and stuff from the beta version of Sonic the Hedgehog 2. I think this is somewhat based off the Simon Wai prototype of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 or even the nick arcade prototype or probably some of both, however, there were a few fixes and enhancement to make this game more playable. The Nick arcade prototype was really known to be very glitchy and have only one complete and working zone, which is emerald zone. It also had lots of Sonic 1 stuff left over in it. The Simon Wai prototype was less glitchy and had more of the "Sonic 2 stuff" and some left over "Sonic 1 stuff", however, I always found the nick arcade prototype to be the most interesting. There were also incomplete levels that were removed in the later versions of Sonic the hedgehog 2. (Like hidden palace zone). This Sonic hack has some of those zones but they are somewhat glitchy. Yea, so, I have introduced you to the beta versions and this sonic hack, so now, let us dive in to the game!

Gameplay: 9

So, to explain it, the gameplay is more similar to the original Sonic games instead of the beta versions of Sonic 2 (Thank goodness). Though, I sometimes do notice a few small strange things that won't really let me know if the gameplay is exactly like Sonic 1 or 2. I just can't point a finger at an original Sonic game. It's almost like a mix of both Sonic 1 and 2 for the physics, at least. Like, if you were to jump and/or spin dash (yes, you can also spin dash in this sonic hack), you will pretty much notice that it is like Sonic 2. You will also notice that it is like Sonic 1 for jumping (not for spin dashes though). Now, if you were to run down a hill while pressing down to roll, it is like how both Sonic 1 and 2 would be like. Now, if you were to run down a hill withOUT pressing down to roll, Sonic runs faster which is basically how it is like in Sonic 2 but not 1, but at times, you may notice that Sonic will appear to run at a constant speed when running down a hill at times. Basically, Sonic does run faster down a hill like Sonic 2, however, he may eventually start going at a constant fast speed down that hill, which is similar to Sonic 1, however, he does move faster than how it would be like in Sonic 1. Like for example: When you run down a loop and then keep running downwards in emerald hill zone, you will move faster like Sonic 2, however, at that same constant speed later on like Sonic 1. Gee.... Explaining this in words is pretty hard. Well, hopefully you understand what I mean. Sonic 1 and 2's physics are pretty much similar for everything else other than running down steep areas without rolling which is basically the same case for this Sonic 2 hack's physics.

As for the special abilities, Sonic can do his spin dash move, run and jump (obviously) just like Sonic 2. If you play as Tails (by selecting him in the options menu at the title screen), he can also do the spin-dash, however, he can not fly, just like Sonic 2. As for knuckles (who is surprisingly also a select-able character in this Sonic hack), he can do the spin-dash, glide, and climb just like Sonic 3 & knuckles, however, he also has his slightly lower jump height just like Sonic 3 & knuckles. Yea, thats about it for the gameplay.

Graphics: 7

Well, the graphics are okay and almost of the same quality as the original Sonic games, however, there are a few flaws that I have noticed. Firstly, when you play as knuckles, do you notice anything funny in the game? Well, yep. Interestingly enough, in the bottom left corner of the game where it shows the amount of lives you have, it says, "Sonic" instead of "K.T.E" (Knuckles the Echidna). Not only that, it shows a small picture of a red and greenish Sonic instead of knuckles. Looks pretty weird and off. But still, it is a Beta version that is enhance into a hack after all. Also, in the sign post where you complete a level with knuckles, there will also be a red and greenish Sonic there. Also, knuckles' sprites seem to be taken from Sonic 3 & knuckles perfectly. Now, as for Tails, his sprites appears to be from Sonic 2. His sprites would occasionally flicker but that is kind of rare, so not a big problem. As for Sonic, his sprites were actually taken from the Sonic 2 beta prototypes and they seem alright. Except one thing, a lot of times, when Sonic runs down a steep area for a few seconds, he will flicker and appear to flip quite a lot. The checkpoints also seem modified and they look.... Alright. Also, the title screen appears to be the beta Sonic 2 title screen. Other than that, all else were taken from original games and they look good as original. They are vivid, bright, colorful, and decent quality indeed. Thats about it for the graphics.

Sound: 9

Well, They are all basically original sounds from original games. Oddly, enough, the title screen background music was replaced with the Sonic the Hedgehog 3 title screen background music. The invincibility background music was also replaced with Sonic the hedgehog 3's background music. As for the rest of the background musics, they are all the original Sonic 2 background musics except for green hill zone, which is the original Sonic the hedgehog 1 background music. All sound effects are pretty much original too. I'll have to say that I find all of the sounds in this game, pretty good. It sounds pretty catchy, the background musics are fitting to the zones, it motivates you to play the game, and of decent quality. Basically something you would want to hear while playing your favorite game. Thats about it for the sound.

Addictiveness: 7

So, I'll have to say that I find this game fairly addicting. Why? Because there are many interesting things to go through, such as experiencing the beta versions of Sonic 2 while this is enhanced enough to be mostly playable, going through the incomplete/deleted zones that were restored in this hack is kind of fun, I guess. You sometimes may want to go back and re-play it again with Sonic, Tails, or Knuckles and basically just discover more about it. It's also fun to see the game occasionally crash at times and/or any other weird experiences in the deleted levels. You just feel somewhat motivated to comeback and check those out. But again, to be honest, after you know too much about it, it just gets a bit boring and then you no longer care so much about playing it anymore. Usually, you'll just start thinking about other games with more of your interests or games more addicting than this one and eventually leave it in the cold. Thats about it for the addictiveness portion in my review!

Story: 6

Well, you guys can pretty much guess this one already just like how you can guess the same exact thing for all other Sonic games for their stories. Of course, here comes the same, old, overused, very simple, and uninteresting story. You simply must defeat Dr. Eggman and foil his evil plans like all other Sonic games. But really, this isn't something very significant in Sonic games. It just mostly focuses right onto the gameplay instead. Well, I don't really care much about the story myself. So, I already said the story and I described it. Need I say more?

Depth: 9

Alright, so, this sonic hack does offer some pretty cool things. Firstly, it offers that rare Beta experience with Some beta features that were basically enhanced to be considered more of a playable game. You can play as Sonic & Tails, Sonic alone, Tails alone, Knuckles & Tails, and knuckles alone. It has green hill zone from Sonic 1, then all of the official Sonic 2 zones, however, those sonic 2 zones are more like the Simon Wai prototype with different badniks and other things. It also has the removed/deleted zones too, but they maybe glitchy though. Sonic, Tails, & Knuckles can do the spin-dash, Knuckles can glide and climb. Also, another cool feature is that when you fight the boss, it actually shows the life bar and health of the boss while you fight it. Cool, right? Also, in the ring counter, it tells you how much rings are left in the zone (thats pretty cool and unique for attempting to collect all the rings in a zone) and how much you have collected and currently have with you (No, duh). So, just think about it! All the beta experience with some extra features to be more playable and more of a unique sonic hack, cool, right? Well, maybe some of you may or may not agree. Nothing else left to really talk about here.

Difficulty: 7

Well, there isn't really anything that difficult or special here compared to the original, but, it depends on the zone you are currently playing. Some zones are really a piece of cake, some zones are a pretty big challenge, some zones has it's traps... etc. Well, one really annoying thing that was from the beta version of Sonic 2 that was included in this Sonic hack was.... An alternate motobug. Yes, you heard me. They are very annoying and they get on my nerves in emerald zone. It's literally the first thing I bump into because it moves a lot faster than an original motobug in green hill zone and it is much bigger in size too. It comes in the worst areas too. Like when you're running in a steep area right when you start the zone, they pop out of nowhere. Also, the glitches in the removed/restored levels from the beta version makes things pretty tricky and annoying to work around with. Especially if the game were to get some "illegal command" error (I think thats what it is called) while you are in the middle of a beta zone. Like imagine, after all that work you went through and then, KA BOOM, game randomly crashes. But, it doesn't really happen so often, at least. Other than that, just depends on the zones. Thats about it for the difficulty portion in my review.

OVERALL: 8.5

(I have no idea why the text got bigger all of a sudden. It won't fix.). Thats about it for my review. I somewhat enjoyed writing this review but I'm also tired. Thanks for reading! Have a nice vizzed day!

mohammedroxx3 : That was another good review there is one thing I think you might want to consider changing and that's trimming down your intro a little or replacing it into somewhere else in the review since I talked about this with Razor in his review that if you put too much in the beginning it could detract from peoples attention of the review. Not saying this to put you at a disadvantage but just give you some good insight, to the both of you actually.
