It just has to be brought up casually in a conversation. There's no need to make it a big focused topic. Finding out stuff like this should be like finding out other things about your friends. Ex:

Guy-Man, Eminem sucks.
Gal-I don't think so, he's alright.
Guy-You like Eminem?
Gal-Yeah.
Guy-Huh, didn't know that.

Now for sexuality:

Gal 1-That chick from math was so quiet, she's almost creepy.
Gal 2-I don't know, I think she's cute.
Gal 1-Wait...you like girls.
Gal 2-Yeah.
Gal 1-Huh, didn't know that.

Yeah, this doesn't happen alot, of course. But to make it happen I think you have to lead by example. Once people are introduced & more used to these situations they'll ease into accepting them & the people in them.
