This game is awesome and it was released for the Sega genesis in 1992. It was developed and published by Sega. The 2 protagonists in the game are Sonic the hedgehog and Tails prower. Dr Robotnik wants to take over the world with his robotic animals as he searches for the 7 chaos emeralds and you make your way through a series of levels to stop him. So know that you have a general idea of the game, let's get on to the actual review shall we?
Graphics: 8
Okay, as far as graphics go for this game, I think they are pretty standard for sonic games, they are clear and there are a few minor improvements in the graphics area from the last sonic game. They are still pretty good graphics in my opinion, you can clearly make things out and it looks pretty good. There is definitely effort put into the graphics,so you can at least see that Sega did try and put forth effort into this game. I like the scenery for each of the levels in the game, like the chemical plant zone for example looks like a chemical plant, there are tubes and chemicals that fly around so it actually fits in with the title of the stage. So there is definitely some improvements from the last sonic game, so i will rate them an 8.5 out of 10, they are pretty good and they look very nice and appealing.
Sound: 10
Now I think the sound of this game is one of its best features, it is like Pokemon, the music is just classic and memorable and it is just something you don't forget. This game has that in my opinion, the music for each of the levels is classic, and having catchy tunes like that for this game is one of the many reasons why it is so popular and re-playable. I really enjoy all of the sound tracks for each of the levels, I like the music for the hilltop zone as well as the cool music from the casino night zone stage. There are just some sounds and music from games that you just don't forget and I think that this game definitely has that. It is just an awesome classic game with unforgettable music that you can enjoy each and every time you play it. The sound effects of the game are pretty realistic, like in the aquatic ruins zone when you crush one of the pillars, it sounds realistic and when sonic coils into a ball to spin, it sounds realistic as well, so for that, I gave the game a perfect 10 out of 10 for the sound. Great music for each stage and realistic sound effects combine for a great game.
Addictiveness: 10
All sonic games are highly addicting in my opinion. Pardon me but I am going to use Pokemon games as an example again, they are that kind of addicting, they are just re playable and it never gets old. I think this sonic game in particular is even more addicting because it is multiplayer and you can enjoy all of the fun in this game with a friend and you can help progress through the levels of the game by playing as tails and you can help destroy enemies. Plus, you can also play in vs mode where 2 players can compete against each other to race to the finish line as either sonic or tails. Plus you can enjoy the fun of being super sonic in this game, it wasn't a feature in previous sonic games and I think it is awesome and it makes it really worth your time to collect the 7 chaos emeralds, so that is why I gave this game a 10 out of 10 for addictiveness, with all of the modes and double stages along with being able to enjoy multiplayer gameplay, I think it truly deserves it and that is why it is so enjoyable and re playable.
Story: 10
I think the story is also a very key feature in this game and it is also very important as well. Your job is to collect the 7 chaos emeralds to put an end to Dr Robotnik's evil ingenious plans of world domination. You also have Tails or Miles Prower to come along with you on your journey to help you defeat Dr Robotnik. You travel through 11 different amazing zones each of which has 2 stages, with the exception of a few. This game has an excellent story and i think perhaps some of the best in video game history. So I scored this game's story a 10 out of 10 because of all of the excitement and enjoyment you get out of going through sonic and his adventures, so that is why I gave is a perfect score on the storyline, it is very well done in my opinion.
Depth: 9
If there is one thing that this game offers, it is depth, there are lots of levels and each of which has 2 stages, which is one more than in the original sonic game. So there is definitely a lot to do in this game depth wise. There are 20 total levels in the game for you to enjoy, plus you can play in multiplayer or play against a friend in vs mode and race to the finish line. And with the addition of the new super sonic mode, I think it makes it completely worth your time in collecting the 7 chaos emeralds, it make it so much more fun. There are a lot of cheats to select the stage of your choice to start at, you have to go to options and play a list of certain sound tracks and you hear a chime and then you can pick the stage, you can find out more about that and all of the other cheats and codes listed under the game screen as it goes into more detail. So overall, I think this game is definitely lengthy and it is a great way to pass the time, I highly recommend playing it either on your own or with a friend for even more fun. This is truly a great game and you will not be disappointed when you play it. So I gave it a 9 out of 10 with all of the many awesome levels in the game that you can enjoy and also with the addition of the super sonic form really makes the game that much more fun and totally worth playing.
Difficulty: 6
Honestly, I don't think the game is ridiculously difficult, there are only a few basic controls, you move and run or change direction with the arrows and you use a,s and d to jump in that direction, you can spin into a ball and dash by holding on to that button as well as the down arrow key. So it really isn't that hard, in fact I think it is a lot easier than the last sonic game, because you are not alone and tails is there to help you, when I first played and I got stuck every now and then, tails would sort of help me out and give me some sort of clue with what I was supposed to do next, so really it is a lot easier now that you have him there by your side to accompany you and help you through the tough parts of the game. The difficulty isn't that bad, all of the levels are fairly easy and there are some parts that are challenging every now and then, but that is normal right and plus that is what makes the game fun to play. So the difficulty is simple and not unbearable, but just enough to make the game fun. Plus if you have played sonic games before, you know what to expect and it will only be that much easier for you. So in my opinion it isn't that difficult, just a little challenging every now and then, but with tails to help guide you through the game, I think you will be just fine, so I gave the overall difficulty of the game a 6 out of 10.
Overall: 9.6
This game is great and I recommend playing it, plain and simple. I think it is definitely worth it, with all of the amazing stages and all of the great levels I think it makes the game that much more fun and exciting to play as you journey through on your mission to destroy Dr. Robotnik's evil plans of domination. With multiplayer and vs mode, now you can enjoy the fun with a friend and it becomes even more fun. So with all of that I think that makes for an awesome game, this game is an awesome classic and one of the best sonic games to play in my opinion. I would definitely recommend playing it, especially for sonic fans out there, this game is for you! So it is a great game to play, I enjoyed every bit of it and I really think it will be worth your time playing it!
