When we were kids, we all remember watching sesame street on PBS kids, It was probally one of the post popular kids programs of the 90's, everybody loved it. Heck Elmo even got his own feature film in the theaters called "Elmo in grouchland", And like usual It even got it's own video game to go along with it, This is Elmo in grouchlnad for the Game boy color, I know this is a game for kids, but does that mean It is bad?
Story-6/10 The plot in this game is pretty much what you would expect from a Elmo game like this, Elmo is walking through the streets one day then suddenly his prized blanket has accidentally flew away from him! It is know up to you to control Elmo through more then 4 big levels in order to get his blanket back!
Gameplay-7/10 Elmo in grouchland is a platformer of all sorts, You control the titular character Elmo, as you get to the end of each level trying to survive in one piece. The controls are really simple for a Game boy color game, You move Elmo with the D-pad, You make him jump with the A button, And you make him do certain actions with the B button. Each level is very very short, they only last like 1-3 minutes then bam, you are done with the level! Each level is crazier then the last, some levels have you floating through some sort of cyber space, while others have you in a garbage yard avoiding these evil revolving platforms. Elmo will be collecting a bunch of items throughout his journey, such as hearts which will give you an extra life, And other stuff which will just increase your score, yes, there is a score system in this game, Each time you collect items, your score will increase, I never figured out why. Anyways, that is the gameplay.
Graphics-7/10 I will be honest here, the graphics in this game are pretty good for Game boy color! All the worlds and levels you will be encountering and exploring are big, nice, and bursting with color, considering this is the Game boy color! As for the character sprites, they look rather Okay, Elmo looks like himself, and there are also some cutscenes that play in between levels, but they are very rare, actually, there are only 2 in the whole game! One at the beginning, and one at the very end of the game. The HUD is pretty self explanatory, It shows you how much health you have left until you die, how many lives you have left until you get game over, And your current score. I never knew why there had to be a scoring system.
Sound-6/10 The sound in this game is rather...Okay, it's nothing to write home about, It's just your average stuff, All of the songs you will be hearing in the game are happy, bright, and fit the mood of the levels alot. As for the sound effects, they are your typical stuff as well, You get beeps, sparkles, and even this generic sparkle noise that I keep hearing in alot of Game boy games, Like the noise whenever you jump is taken from Home alone for the Game boy, which I will probably review someday. The music can get pretty repetitive, but It can grow on you after a while.
Addictiveness-6/10 Is this a game I am going to play again? Um...I do not really know, the game is really over that quickly, And when I first beat the game, I didn't really have that much to do after it except play it again, and maybe on a different difficulty level, yes, there is a difficulty setting in this game, Easy and hard, But there are no real differences between these two levels.
Depth-5/10 Um...As much as I was praising the game, This is probably the worst part of the game, the replay value. The game is VERY VERY short, each level probably lasts only 1-2 levels, and the game is only 10 levels long, So you can probably beat it in 9-12 minutes. The game is still fun to play through again though.
Difficulty-3/10 Another thing about the game you should know, It is very very easy, Never did I have any problem trying to finish any levels at all, But again, I know this is a kids game, But come on! This is too easy! I would love more of a challenge, but It is okay.
Overall-7.1/10 I would say, buy this game! It actually kept me busy for a while, I gave this game a 7.1 because how much fun It gave me for a kids game, And how much effort they put into the game itself, Overall buy this! You will not regret it. When we were kids, we all remember watching sesame street on PBS kids, It was probally one of the post popular kids programs of the 90's, everybody loved it.
