If you are struggling to survive in minecraft, just follow this guide. It will help quite a lot in the first few days.

Day 1

As soon as you spawn, cut down 4 logs off the trees, and turn them all into planks. This will give you 16 planks-use 4 of these to make a crafting table, 4 to make 8 sticks, and then make a wooden pickaxe, found in the tools section of the crafting table. It will require 2 sticks and 3 wooden planks. This will leave you with 6 sticks and 5 wooden planks; do NOT use them yet. Mine up 13 cobblestone, and use the crafting table again to make a furnace, which requires 8 cobblestone, a stone axe, which requires 3 cobblestone and 2 sticks, and a stone sword, which requires 2 cobblestone and 1 stick, leaving you with 5 planks, 3 sticks and 1 cobblestone. These will turn out useful eventually. With the axe, chop down 12 logs and convert 10 of them into planks, leaving you with 40 planks. Do NOT use the 5 planks, they are essential to your survival. With the 40 planks, make a small temporary hut, close to the spawn and preferably near a water source. Now, place the furnace inside the hut, along with the crafting table, and put a door in the wall. Place 2 logs in the top slot of the furnace, and 5 wooden planks in the bottom slot. Go out with your sword(if it is still day, if it is night stay inside) and try to find sheep to kill for wool. If you find 3 wool, chop down 4 more logs and change them into wooden planks. Get back to the house, make a bed(which requires 3 wool and 3 wooden planks) and take the charcoal out of the furnace. It should be nearing night time now, so stay inside. Make a torch from one charcoal and the one of the sticks from earlier. Light up the hut, and go to sleep if it is night time. By the end of this day you should have: 2 sticks, 1 cobblestone, 1 charcoal, 13 wood planks, Stone Axe, Stone Sword, Wooden Pickaxe in your hotbar.

Day 2

Upon waking up, your hunger meter may have gone down. Go outside and look for food with the stone sword. Once you have 8 raw beef or raw pork chops, go back to the house and put the food in the furnace, and cook it with the last piece of charcoal. While waiting, you should cut down 8 logs, and chart the area on your map-don't get lost though. After charting, go back to the hut and take the food out of the furnace. Put the logs in and burn them with your planks. After the charcoal is done, go out and look for a mine entrance. Mine up 2 cobblestone and go back to the house. Make sticks out of the wood planks leftovers, and make a stone pick. If there was any Iron or Coal near the mine, mine it up. Just look for exposed veins for now. Go back to the house at sunset.

Day 3

Take all the sticks and wooden planks you have and head for the mine. It would be wise to save now. Chop down 16 logs and put them and 2 charcoal in the furnace, come back for it later. Look for any Iron in the high areas of the mine. Mine any coal or Iron you see up, it will be essential. If you encounter any mobs, it would be best to run. You should stay up this night.

Day 4

Go back to the house when you have 38 Iron. Take the 16 charcoal from the furnace and place the Iron in, then smelt it with charcoal. You should have enough to make a full set of armor, an Iron sword, Iron pick, and, if needed, an Iron Axe. Now you should have a decent amount of charcoal and sticks; if not, keep on chopping down trees and smelting them or crafting them into sticks until you do. You should also stock up on food.

Once you have enough torches and food

Delve deep into the mines and try to find the ores you need. It will be dangerous, and it will be a good idea to save. It might also be a good idea to bring a friend. Once you are satisfied with the ores, set up a farm near your house, maybe make a fishing rod, bow, railway, etc.. You should also upgrade your hut to a proper place to live.

After everything has been set up

You should hunt mobs for their drops-a skeleton's bones could prove helpful in making a farm, a creepers gunpowder will come in handy making potions, and spider eyes will also help you make potions. An Enderman's Ender Pearl will teleport you if you throw it. You can also build your Exp by killing mobs or smelting items, which will prove useful in Enchanting items.

Making Farms

Making a farm can be a tedious task to do, but this little guide may make it easier. First, you need a flat area of land. Fence this area in, and make two buckets. Collect water with both of these buckets, and make an infinite water source by digging a three block long row in the ground and placing water either side of it. You can then collect water from the middle of the water source forever. Raise ground up in rows.?

Animal Farm

Animal Farms are surprisingly simple to make. Just fence in an are of less than 20 by 20 and attract animals by going up to them and holding out wheat to them(wheat seeds for chickens). These farms need the animals to breed to continue providing food. They are often ignored by minecraft players, because of the cost needed to provide for them. It would be a good idea to make a chicken farm, so that there is a supply of feathers nearby, which can be made into arrows. Early on in the game, it would also be a good idea to keep a cow farm so that there is plenty of leather?available.

The Nether

If you have found at least 3 diamonds, you can make a diamond pickaxe. With the diamond pickaxe, you can mine the hardest rock in the game(excluding bedrock), Obsidian. Obsidian, just like it's real life counterpart, is a black glass made by the fusion of water and lava. It is often found below the surface, in the deep caverns filled with lava(which I call the Magma Chambers). It takes approximately 9 seconds to mine it with a pick with no enchantments. It can be rarely found on the surface, where lava springs and lakes combined, often in the mountains or hills. Collecting 14 Obsidian will give you enough to make a portal to the hellish dimension of the Nether. The frame must be 5 blocks tall by 4 blocks wide.

The corners are not required on the frame, which could save you 4 obsidian. Now lets get started on the Nether itself.

The Nether is the equivalent to Hell in Minecraft, but you won't find Satan or tormented souls. The Nether is highly mountainous. With jagged peaks, canyons cutting straight through the rock and fissures in the ground all leading down to the main 'attraction' of the Nether-the ocean. Of lava. Falling into this pit will ensure that you will never leave again, and your stuff will get burned. But somewhere in the Nether, there will be the Fortress-the reason anyone visits the place. Yes, the fortress is great, but more on that in the next section. It's time to talk about the mobs that take up residence in the Nether...

Zombie Pigman-The second you see these you will know why they are given the name. The Zombie Pigman is a generally neutral mob, and they usually travel in small groups or hide near each other, behind the piles of Netherrack. Once you attack one of their group, the whole platoon will emerge from the shadows and attack. While not the strongest of mobs, they can be strong in numbers. They attack with Golden Swords, and drop gold nuggets and rotten flesh.

Ghast-The Ghast is a flying jellyfish-like mob which glides around the Nether, filling the place with their?shrieks. This mob is a hostile, ranged mob, and attacks using fireballs which can deactivate your Nether Portal and destroy Netherrack. They are easily defeated with a bow.

Magma Cube-Basically a Nether Slime, there is not really much to say about this. It drops magma cream, a useful?ingredient?in potion brewing.

Blaze-A flying, ranged?hostile?mob which will only spawn in and around the Nether Fortress. They drop Blaze Rods and Glowstone Dust. They are known for their heavy, metallic and dull breathing. It can set you or any mob on fire, so beware fighting it.

The Fortress

The Nether Fortress is a building made purely of Nether Brick, Nether Brick Stairs and Nether Brick Fences. The Nether Fortress is the only place in the game where you are going to get Blaze Rods, Blaze Spawners and Nether Wart Farms, which can be looted. This building is connected by a series of hallways, corridors, staircases, bridges, and towers. The fortress is often at a higher altitude than the lava sea, and the bridges are at risk of getting blown to smithereens by the Ghasts. Pigmen are often seen patrolling the place, so watch those corners.

Biomes

Biomes in minecraft are essentially the different eco systems of the world. There are a few main biomes; details are going to be given below.

Forest-A forest generally consists of Oak trees, and a small amount of Birch trees. A few lakes are in the forest. The forest is generally hilly, and a few valleys in between. Rivers are quite common in forests. Villages cannot be found here.

Desert-The Desert is a mainly flat biome with some dunes in between. Cacti is abundant in this biome, and despite being a desert, water is common, too. There are no trees or grass in this biome, and caves are uncommon. The flat land and elevated land in between blends together nicely to make a fort or house so that a vantage point can be established. Mobs seem to spawn here often. Villages spawn?
in this biome.

Swamps-A shallow pool of murky water surrounded by small islands. The very few large islands there are will be dry and flat, and maybe a few trees, 6 at the most. Clay can be seen in the riverbed, and Lily Pads cover the water. Mushrooms spawn on the islands. This biome is the gateway to the ocean in most cases, and pumpkins are often found here.

Tundra-A flat expanse of land blanketed by snow. It doesn't rain here, but snows, and the hills are more mountainous here than in other areas. Every single river or lake is frozen here, and there are very few trees. The lack of wood, animals, and general needs make surviving here near enough hopeless.

Taiga-A very hilly area filled with Spruce trees and snow. Like the Tundra, the rivers and lakes are frozen, and it snows here.

Extreme Hills/Mountain Range-A highly mountainous biome. This biome starts off as some small hills and slopes, but eventually grows into mountains, cliffs and drops. The mountains are usually bordered by water. Valleys and caves are more common here than usual. Floating islands are common.

Plains-A mostly flat biome with loads of tall grass, but with little to no trees. Gullies, water holes and villages appear here. Pigs, Sheep, Cows and Chickens often appear here. Cave openings are easy to spot here.

NPC Villages

NPC Villages are Villages inhabited by mobs called NPC Villagers. These above ground structures can spawn only in Deserts or Plains, and are often built upon a cave system or pit in the ground. These Villages are commonly found in or around a water source, whether it is a river, lake or the ocean itself. Villages will most likely have at least one farm to pillage. Villages near the spawn are a boost, as the houses are mainly made of wood or logs, with notable exceptions being the blacksmith and church.

The Blacksmith will have a chest inside which can contain saplings, Iron Ingot, Obsidian, Saddle, Iron Helmet, Iron Boots, Iron Leggings, Iron Helmet, Iron Sword, Iron Pickaxe, Iron Chestplate, Diamond, Bread, or apples. The blacksmith is noted for being the only place in the village to have a lava supply.

Looting a village of all of its farms will give you over a stack of wheat seeds, and a good supply of bread, so come to the village when you need food.

The Villages have gravel roads which you can mine up for flint or you can connect with another village or house to make a network. The Villagers have a unique appearance-uni brow, bald heads, green eyes, long nose, and folded arms. The Villagers have no attack and currently serve no purpose in the Xbox version. These villagers wander aimlessly around the village, but do not ever leave it. In a later update, you will be able to trade with villagers and make them reproduce.

Structures

The world in Minecraft is made from Biomes and the ocean. But sometimes, the player may come across certain structures in the world; whether it be above or below ground. Villages, Ravines, Abandoned Mineshafts, and Strongholds are all examples of structures. Structures are certain environments which are planned to spawn within a world. Structures can sometimes intersect with other structures, so a village can be split in half by a ravine.

Many types of structures can be seen throughout the world. Here are a few of them: River, Mountain, Village, Stronghold, Ravine, Mineshaft, Hill, Beach, Basin, Lake, Dungeon and springs. Details below.

Ravine: A fissure in the ground, often exposed to the sun. They are usually 20 to 45 blocks in height, and if the player or any mob falls down, they will most likely die, making this hazardous. They can also spawn underground or in water.

Stronghold: A complex underground series of corridors, dungeons, staircases, rooms, chambers and crossroads all leading to two directions-the exit, and the ultimate goal in Minecraft-the End Portal. The strongholds can't spawn above ground, and are the only places in the game where you can find mossy stone bricks or cracked stone bricks. Silverfish often spawn here, and the Stronghold is often dark.

Beach: Self explanatory. Beaches mainly consist of sand, and often have a river leading to them. Sometimes, cliffs can spawn along the beach, but aside from that, there are no features.

Basin: A piece of land with its grass and dirt stripped away, revealing the bare stone. This often reveals ores such as coal and Iron. They are sometimes filled with water, making...

Lakes: Yet again, this is self explanatory. A lake is a piece of land that holds a small body of water. The lakes in the Tundra or Taiga freeze up.

Mineshaft: An abandoned mineshaft in the ground. Yet another series of complex and confusing corridors, bridges and crossroads. The poisonous Cave Spiders can spawn here, and these mineshafts often have passages leading deeper and deeper in the ground.

Dungeon: Small rooms in the ground which usually contain chests with rare items. The walls are made from mossy cobblestone, one of the rarest blocks in the game. Mob Spawners are in the centre of the room. These can be zombie, skeleton or spider.

Spring: A source block of water/lava which spawned inside a hollow space in a mountain. The liquid drops down, and can sometimes form lakes. Serve no real purpose.

If you are struggling to survive in minecraft, just follow this guide. It will help quite a lot in the first few days.

As soon as you spawn, cut down 4 logs off the trees, and turn them all into planks. I must say I am very impressed, this is very long and detailed. You go through a lot of information in this and I think that this is indeed very useful and thorough. Good job on this guide man. You cover a lot and you break the game down and keep things organized but also detailed as well. I am sure that this will come in handy for someone else when they play this game.

This is definitely comprehensive and you put a lot of effort and thought into making this a good, helpful guide. So overall, great job making this, you have a lot of great detail and I think you did an awesome job with this game guide. Keep up the awesome work, I know this is going to help a lot of people!

Vizzed.com is very expensive to keep alive! The Ads pay for the servers.

Vizzed has 3 TB worth of games and 1 TB worth of music.  This site is free to use but the ads barely pay for the monthly server fees.  If too many more people use ad block, the site cannot survive.

We prioritize the community over the site profits.  This is why we avoid using annoying (but high paying) ads like most other sites which include popups, obnoxious sounds and animations, malware, and other forms of intrusiveness.  We'll do our part to never resort to these types of ads, please do your part by helping support this site by adding Vizzed.com to your ad blocking whitelist.
