Overall Mega Man 5 while enjoyable feels like the same thing you did in 4 just with better sounding music. The game still has great controls, graphics, but the addition of Beat to the series along with the beefed up Mega Buster didn’t make 5 feel very different from 4. You can play Mega Man 5 on many different consoles like the NES, Virtual Console, PlayStation Network, and Anniversary Collection. Mega Man 5 scores a 8/10 (Great). Overall, I found this game to be a tad more enjoyable to play than Mega Man 4. Graphics Mega Man 5 has some of the best graphics on the NES. Almost rvery background is detailed and even animated. I even noticed a bit of parallax scrolling in a few stages. The color selection for the graphics are good and fitting (I only noticed this since the developers had a bit of trouble with the balance and colors). Compared to 4’s sweet weapon get screen, 5’s feels lacking, but a 360 view of Mega Man is cool. I noticed on very, very, slight changed to Mega Man’s sprite. Two pixels were added to his helmet for his ladder climbing animation. Music I enjoyed the sound of 5’s music more than 4’s since it didn’t have that tinny Genesis/Mega Drive sound to it. Unlike 4 though, 5 and 6 only have two themes for their eight final stages rather than four. Overall the music is nice, but not a lot of it gets stuck in my head after playing. Replay Value Compared to 4, I go back and play 5 more, but there are others I go back and play more often. Like every Mega Man game, you still get to pick what order of stages you go so it the replayability doesn’t really change. The upgraded Mega Buster makes the Master weapons feel a little useless. Story Two months after Dr. Wily’s fourth attempt at taking over the world, Proto Man, Mega Man’s brother leads an army of robots to destroy cities across Earth. In the process Proto Man kidnaps Dr. Light and Mega Man has to go on another adventure to save his creator and stop Proto Man. Gameplay Mega Man 5 added a few new things, most notably Beat, Mega Man’s bird robot sidekick who dives into enemies and destroys them. He would be most helpful for the final boss in this game. To get beat though, you have to collect eight letters, one in each stage, that spell MEGAMANV. Some of the upgraded things 5 added was a larger Mega Buster making it more round and blue colored rather than 4’s green and more rectangular buster shot. Rush Coil was unfortunately changed too, but this one being a downgrade. Rather than 3 and 4’s Rush Coil where you had to just jump on Rush, 5’s version you jump on and have to jump off. It may not sound bad but playing the game, it’ll throw you off. Also it seems like Rush Coil uses more weapon energy in this game, but that may just be me. Like in Mega Man 4 you are able to go back to stages you’ve previously beaten to stock up on lives or E-Tanks. Speaking of E-Tanks, a new E-Tank was added in 5 called the M-Tank which refilled your health bar and all of your weapon energy too, but you can only hold one at a time. Unfortunately like 4, 5, and 6 don’t save how many E-Tanks you have with the passwords even though they brought back the blue and red dot password system that 3 had. The Master Weapons in 5 are a hit or miss. While you have some handy ones like Gravity Hold, Gyro Blade, and Crystal Eye, you have some crappy ones like Power Stone and Charge Kick. Although Charge Kick is handy in two battles; Wave Man and Dark Man 3. I think the problem is that the Mega Buster is so strong in the game; it makes the Master weapons a little pointless to use. Other things to say about 5…the controls are still perfect like 3 and 4 and you still have two final castles to go through with no passwords like in 4. Also the stage length seems a little bit longer in this game. Stone Man’s stage seems to go on longer than your average NES Mega Man stage. Stages also have gimmicks to them. For example, Gravity Man’s stage has you switching between walking on the floor and ceiling and Wave Man’s stage has you riding bubbles up a vertical section and then riding on a wave racer to the Robot Master. The Proto Man Fortress stages all have a different version of the same boss named Dark Man. Difficulty For a Mega Man game, 5 isn’t too difficult and I feel that it has an average difficulty. I found the first three Proto Man stages and the first two Wily stages to be the most challenging part of the game. The tiger enemies called Sumartans can be tricky to destroy if you don’t know where they are since they will pounce at you when you either get close enough or shoot at them. Thankfully the Mega Buster, like with almost every enemy in the game will kill them in one hit. For some reason Mega Man 5 seems to give the player a lot of extra lives, making dying not much of a threat. Quote: "It's a bird...that's a helmet. I didn't have a very hard time the design. I just tried to imagine what a cute bird would look like, and that is what I got. I hadn't had much experience drawing birds, but I got it approved on my first shot." ~Keiji Inafune Story I wrote: Chapter One - Catching the Bus Megaman is standing at the front door to Dr. Light's Lab. He has a backpack on, and is visibly upset. Megaman: Okay, so why do I have to do this again? Dr. Light: It's an experiment to see how well your AI will integrate with normal teenagers. You are fifteen, after all... Megaman: I gotta go in as a freshman?! Aw, crap... Light: Just go with it, Rock. You'll have fun, I promise. Megaman: I can't even drive there? Light: It wouldn't be consistent with the role you're trying to play. The bus is your only way to school. Megaman: Yeah, I guess you're right. Light: I can drive you... Megaman: It's okay. You don't have to do that, Doc. You'd probably just end up embarassing me, anyway. Light: I loved high school, myself. Megaman: Yeah, I still can't believe you had that beard back then, Doc. (Shows yearbook pic of Doc) Light: Heh...I used to sneak food into class with this thing. (Feels at his chin hair again.) Hey, lookee here! (He pulls out a wad of some grey, nondescr Megaman: Right. > At the bus stop, he sees Zero standing there, dressed in plain clothes, trying as best he can to get his huge blonde locks into some semblance of kemptness. X is sitting on the bench nearby, dressed simlilarly, and coughing, it seems.) Hey...Zero? What are you doing here at the bus stop? And a hundred years in the past, for that matter? Zero : Ah, the writer wanted to put us both in here 'cause he likes us...something about omnipotence over whatever happens to us in his stories or something...some kind of Megaman: Right. Anyway...having a bad hair day? Zero : (glares) Do you have any idea how hard it is to keep this mane smooth and flowin'? If I were workin' today, I'd just call in sick or something...I'm just not me without my cool hair... Megaman: (sighs) Anyway...X, you okay? That cough sounds pretty bad. X: (still coughing violently) Hey...*cough*...hey Rock...*cough*... Megaman: What the heck's the matter? You got a weird computer-virus stomach flu or somethin'? X: My...*cough*...my voice... Megaman: Your voice? X: Yeah...It's been acting up again... Megaman: Hey, it'll be okay. High-schoolers half-expect freshmen to still have their squeaky voices, anyway. X ![]() Megaman ![]() X: You're doing it again! Zero : Shut up over there for a minute, will ya? I can't hear myself think over your blabbing! Why don't you take a few shots of WD-40 for that voice of yours, X? Geeez... X is infuriated and rushes over, clawing at Zero.Thankfully, Megaman holds him back from the neck of the turtleneck X is wearing. Throwing X finally back onto the bench, Megaman uses Time-Stopper to freeze X in place. Megaman: Time-Stopper!! Zero : Funny...I thought you lost all your special weapons after each game. What gives? Megaman: Ah well, the writer needed some quick way to keep X out of the conversation for awhile. That was the best he could do. Zero : Oh. Well, anyway, the bus ought to be here any minute... Oh, Lord, does my hair look okay? Megaman just stares. Megaman: And you WONDER why people think you and X are gay... Zero : Alia, I am SO going to kill you for using up all of my quadruple-strength hair gel... Megaman: Shut up and act natural. Here comes our ticket to a day of hell. The bus pulls up. Megaman steps on board. Zero follows him closely. Driver: You gentlemen got fare? Zero : Great. Exact change, I suppose? Driver: Yep. Zero (sighs): Perfect. (Digs in his pockets.) I've got a five-dollar bill, a battery, and a wad of lint. Will that do? Driver: Where you boys goin'? Megaman: Ryutaro's High School, ma'am. Other side of town. Driver: Well, this ain't exact change to get there, but...I'll be willing to let it slide if Red Boy here gives me a smoochie... Megaman: It can't be worse than having to walk, I guess. Go ahead, Zero. We've got no other way of getting across town. Zero : Ever heard of a taxi, genius? Megaman: They're all down this week. Something about Wily's robots having a field day with them all downtown. I should probably be checking that out, but...I guess this is more important to the Doc. Zero : How 'bout teleportation? Megaman: We can only go places where we've already been...and I haven't been to the high school, and I'm pretty sure you haven't... Zero : (grumble) Driver: So what's it gonna be, boys? Zero : Um, Rock, can I see you...over HERE...just a second? Megaman walks over. Zero chokes him around the neck. Now THIS is for your bright ideas! I AM NOT kissing that woman! She's absolutely hideous! She looks like she could be Frankenstein's grandmother! Driver: Well? Megaman: I...have a plan. Zero : Huh? Megaman: I know how we can get this bus. Megaman whispers to Zero. Moments later... Zero : All right, Ms. Driver. Here. (He stands up, walks up to the driver's seat. Sighs loudly and crosses himself.) Kiss your red boy. Driver(lunges forward): Hot dang!! I got me a man! Zero dodges her and pulls the door handle quickly. She falls out of her seat and through the open doors, then continues tumbling out. She rolls until she hits the bench that Megaman froze X on. Zero : Yee-hah! (Shuts the doors.) We got us a bus! He drives off, squealing the bus tires. Time-Stopper finally wears off of X. Driver: Yahoo! C'mere, handsome! X: AAAAAAAAAAAAAAIGH!!!!!!!!!!!! (Runs away, the driver chasing him off.) End Chapter 1. Tips: You can use the Super Arrow you get from Star Man to get over a wall and it's a good replacement for Item 2. It moves faster than Rush Jet and even if you run out of energy while riding it the arrow won't disappear until it hits a wall. Use the M Tank when you have full energy and weapons energy and all items on screen will be turned into extra lives. You can farm for lives, life, and weapon energy capsules by destroying the egg robots the Corocoro creates. Thanks for reading my review of Mega Man 5. This is a pretty good review, very large, solid detail and good information in each topic category of the game. I a wondering though, is this in any way plagiarized, because parts of your one for megaman 4 were plagiarized and that is not allowed. Just try to keep things in your own words, terms and definitions, it makes it so much easier and you become a better reviewer when you do it that way, don't copy. If this is not copied then, good job. If it is, then try to not do it again for it is against the rules. |
