I just tried to see if I had the time and patience to stand a chance against the original Metroid without using cheat codes. Unfortunately, I just wasted my time. That game was made WAAAAY too early, and it is almost unbelieveably obsolete (outdated). I tried nearly everything. I killed enemies for health, I used Microsoft Word to type the passwords, I drew maps of the areas as I explored them, I slogged my way through the copy-and-paste rooms, but when I got to Kraid's lair, the game just became impossible. I couldn't go anywhere without dying. Sorry, Metroid; I love nearly all of the games from Super Metroid and beyond, but Zelda got off to an infinitely better start. Zero Mission was a bit too easy in some ways, but I loved how the game was designed around speed-running, and the graphics were beautiful. It played like a heavily watered-down version of Super Metroid (but still very well), with some minor improvements here and there. Overall, it was way more fun than Metroid Fusion, but I suppose Metroid Fusion is awesome if you have one of the non-American versions of it (the non-American versions have the "Hard Mode" option). Thank God for vizzed.com. Anyway, what do you think of the first Metroid?

Metroid is one of the originals for a reason on the NES. It's one of the first adventure games on a side-scroller. It's really a good game to play in replay. I know I can.
