This game has left me with many great memories because of how awesome it is. It is one of the first Pokémon games I ever played and I enjoy it every time I play it. This game may not be the sharpest in graphics or sound but it has a high place in my liking for Pokémon games. It will always remain to be the first game I have ever played and I will never grow tired of it. I hope you can enjoy this review and appreciate this game as well.
Graphics: 8
Okay, this is one of the very first Pokémon games and it is on a handheld system, so the graphics may not be the sharpest or clearest in comparison to some of the newer Pokémon games, but I think they are okay considering that this is an older Pokémon game and the graphics weren't super awesome because the technology wasn't as great or as improved as it is now to make more clear and sharper Pokémon games. The sprites of the trainers and Pokémon may not be that great because it is just starting out, everything does look a little fuzzy or unclear, but you can still make out what it is supposed to represent. So give the game a break, it is an older game that came out in 1996, the graphics have gotten much better since then. I scored the graphics an 8 because although they are a little fuzzy or hard to see, they are from an older Pokémon game and they are not as clear or amazing as some of the Pokémon games we are used to now, but they did try to make the Pokémon as good as possible in the few pixels they had.
Sound: 8
If you can't come to appreciate the graphics, then the sound is what will, the tunes in the game are so catchy and fun to listen to as you are walking or when you are in an intense battle there is intense fast music playing. I like the tunes and I can appreciate them because they make the game more fun to play and more enjoyable by filling it with catchy little sounds and tunes throughout the cities and throughout the game. There are little tunes when you are walking or intensely battling an opponent or simply going to the pokecenter, all of the sounds are catchy. I always think that a game with good sound is a bonus and I think this game has great sound because it is so catchy. Plus it would be more boring and not as fun if there was no sound or tune when you are walking or doing anything, it is boring, so I think the sound really gets you in a Pokémon mood. I scored the game's awesome sound a 10 simply because it gets you in the mood to play and it makes the game more fun and addicting to play with a catchy tune playing as you go.
Addictiveness: 10
This game is addicting, all Pokémon games are, but this one is addicting because of all of the memories you are left with once you have played this game, it is an awesome experience to enjoy when you are training your perfect team and leveling up and evolving Pokémon or catching new ones. That is what makes the game addicting, all of the things you can do. I always played for hours trying to construct the best team and tried to evolve and train my Pokémon as well as train hard to beat gyms and the elite 4 in the end. There is just so much to do in this game, and it is so fun that it becomes addicting until you have done and accomplished it. This game is very addicting, which is why I scored it a 10, all Pokémon games are because of all of the new Pokémon and creating the perfect team make it addicting to play.
Story: 9
Okay, this is before we knew the story would never really change and it would basically stay the same throughout all Pokémon games. You start out as a young kid who wants to become the region's new champion as you battle trainers and your rival for the title of champion and become the master of Pokémon. You also collect data from all of the Pokémon in the region and store it in the pokedex. So the story may be simple, but it is fun and addicting and it makes the game awesome. I scored the game's story a 9 because it may be simple but it becomes addicting to train and fulfill your dream of being the champion of Kanto and become the master of Pokémon.
Depth: 8
The game offers lots to do and the amount of time you spend playing the game depends on how experienced you are and how strong your team is. If you have a good team you should be able to do well in the game, but there is still a lot to do in the game, you have to beat 8 gyms and then beat the elite 4 afterwards. And then after, you can go look for the legendary Pokémon in the game as well, so it all depends on how good you are with Pokémon and assembling a good team. But still there is a lot of stuff to do in this game and it will leave you with tons of stuff to do. You have a lot of traveling to do to get to the towns as well as build your team up and train them. So it may take a while depending on how good you are with Pokémon. I scored the depth an 8 because there is lots to do in the game like collect data from all 150 Pokémon and become the champion. So it is a lengthy game with lots of stuff to do, but the amount of time it takes depends on how you train and how good your team is. This shouldn't be a game that takes 5 minutes to beat, you should take your time and pace yourself in the game, it is better to take the time to train a good team and do well in the game than to rush through everything quickly and end up unprepared and fail. So the key thing to doing well in Pokémon games is to take your time and train well because it will pay off later.
Difficulty: 6
It is like all Pokémon games, as long as you have a good team that is balanced and well trained, you shouldn't have to much of a problem and you will do well in the game. If you teach your Pokémon good moves and train them well then you won't have much trouble because your team is well prepared and you know what to do. Things won't start to get difficult until the elite 4, that is when you should train hard and build up a good team. Like I said, the game's difficulty depends on how good you are with Pokémon and how experienced you are. Most importantly is to not rush through the game and o take time and care into your training, otherwise your Pokémon may not be properly ready to battle because you rushed. Overall the game was not super difficult and some of the things you had to do were pretty straightforward and simple. But like I said, the difficulty depends on how good you are. I scored the difficulty a 6 because it wasn't really that hard for me and even though it may be a little challenging at times, it is at times, it is not impossible and you shouldn't give up.
Overall: 9.4
I enjoyed this game and I thought it was an amazing play and it brings back so many great memories every time I play it. This is an awesome game and it is one of the first I have ever played. I love everything about it and I look forward to playing this game again in the future because it is addicting. I recommend this game to anyone who likes and appreciates Pokémon games, this is just a classic and it is too awesome., , this is for those who are looking for fun and a good challenge. This game is awesome and will guarantee you with any hours of fun and lots of great memories. This game is awesome and I scored it a 9.4 overall for all of the great times I had playing it and all the fun stuff there is to do. You won't be disappointed when you play this game.
