Being incredibly busy this month means that I wasn't able to complete sonic unleashed, so that means I cant include it in sonic month. But if I don't finish a game, then I cant review it.

Sonic generations. Every series needs that one game that will kick up the nostalgia meter to a whole new level. Sonic generations was released in 2011 and was made in honor of Sonic's twentieth birthday. This game will have modern and classic sonic team up and go through stages from sonic's past. It features 3 eras from Sonic's past. The classic era, the dreamcast era, and the modern era.

Gameplay: The gameplay is great. There have been a few sonic game that suffered from bad controls, but the controls on this game are incredibly solid and there wasn't a single instance where it tripped me up. The problems with the camera that were present in games like sonic adventure 2 aren't present, though this isn't in a full 3D environment. All of sonic's special moves, such as the spin dash and homing attack work very well and are very solid. The gameplay, in my opinion, is never repetitive like some other sonic games and that keeps you entertained. There are two versions of gameplay that I will be covering.

Modern sonic: Modern sonic runs through stages from the classic games that have been rendered in 3D and in HD. The stages play similarly to the way they do in games like sonic unleashed. Sonic runs through a 3D environment at high speeds and fights enemies using the homing attack and spin dash.

Classic sonic: When playing as classic sonic, all of the stages have been put into 2D, to fit with the gameplay of classic sonic games. Sonic will run through beautiful looking environments, controlling in a similar way to the way sonic does in Sonic the hedgehog 4: Episode 2 (man, that's a mouthful) to give a modern 2D example. Though, the controls are more ironed out than they are in that game, they are solid and easy to control.

Graphics: This game looks breathtakingly awesome, I don't like using the word awesome, because it makes me sound like I'm 14 but it really does fit with this game. All of the sonic stages are brought into HD, and the game looks fantastic (I know, I say fantastic a lot.) Sonic animates well, and the enemies do also. The cutscenes weren't as impressive as I was expecting, but they are still very satisfying and they look great. The hub world wasn't very impressive, but it gets more lively as the game goes on, and that sort of makes up for it. Environments are entertaining and aren't repetitive.

Sound: The sound is amazing. It sets the mood for a sonic game incredibly well. If you aren't going to get the game, I would at least encourage you to listen to some of the music. Its pretty difficult to describe other than saying just that. The sound tends to be a dancing-rock arrangement, and its very easy on the ears. I listen to it away from the game now, and its great to listen to. I encourage you to look it up and see.

Addictiveness: I'm going to play this game often, and I mean often. I have beaten sonic adventure 2 about twenty times, and this game is about 3 times more addictive.  This game keeps me hooked like few other game have before. The great environments, the fantastic gameplay, and the awesome music will keep your eyes glued to the screen and your hands glued to the controller. I would have kept my hands on the controller for longer if I didn't have to pay bills. There may be a small amount of levels, but the sheer addictiveness keeps this game from ever becoming boring.

Story: Some people give this game some flack for its story, and I don't really get why. First of all, its a sonic game, how deep of a story were you expecting? Secondly, its an anniversary game, the point is to take you back to the past, not to keep you involved in a story. Basically, the time eater has erased time while classic sonic is exploring green hill zone, and while modern sonic is celebrating his birthday. Sonic is taken to white space, where he finds the green hill zone, which has its color and life restored to it after he enters. Sonic finds tails, and the he meets classic sonic and classic tails. They find out that sonic and classic sonic can restore color and life to all of these places. Sonic and classic sonic do just that. Eventually, they find out the mastermind behind the time eater is in fact, doctor Robotnik. And, as you could guess, sonic saves the day.

Depth: There are 9 nine levels, for both classic and modern sonic. There are also over five bossed you can fight. There are many extras you can buy in the shop. And although this doesn't sound like much, the addictiveness of this game and the immense replay value make up for it all. This will take a few hours to complete, but again, your going to want to play it a few times.

Difficulty: This game really wasn't difficult, most sonic game aren't. Some enemies might surprise you, but more often than not you will get your rings back and be able to go on your merry way.

Overall, this is a truly wonderful game, not just for people who have sonic as a part of their childhood. Those who do remember sonic from the old days will get a refreshing blast from the past that really improves the gaming experience. Even those without much sonic experience can still enjoy the wonderful graphics, gameplay, and music. So, even if your not looking for the nostalgia, give it a try. This concludes "sonic month" I did want to review more game from the series, but things happen. I will review sonic unleashed soon enough and as more sonic games get added to the VGR I will review them, but until then,

see ya

Hey Ender, which version do you think is the best? PS3, XBox, or 3DS?

zelda2 : To my knowledge all three are exactly the same.

ender44 : Great review. I have the PlayStation 3 version and I must say I adore this game. I felt you could have gone more in-depth with difficulty, such as how well the difficulty scales through progression, or if it ever randomly get's unfair. (though it does not)

Tails the Fox : I thought they were the same to, but I did the research. Each version has different levels pulled from sonic games over the years.

zelda2 : I have only played the 360 version, so I cant give an accurate answer.

ender44 : I suddenly have the urge to buy the 3DS version. Can you tell me what the 3DS and 360 ones have? The PS3 one has Green Hill, Chemical Plant, Sky Sanctuary, Speed Highway, City Escape, Seaside Hill, Crisis City, Rooftop Run, Planet Wisp. Any differences?

Tails the Fox : The 3DS version has less levels than the other two, and the cut scenes are altered, just saying.

It has green hill zone, casino night zone, mushroom hill, emerald coast, radical highway, water palace, and tropical resort. It also contains different boss battles than the other two versions/

ender44 :

Nice review.
The music is actually fantastic for this game and I love it.
I hope the next Sonic game is just as good.

The difficulty gets a lot better with the minigame challenges.
If you're going for the S ranks. That seems to be where
the difficulty is kept in Sonic games.

Unleashed is pretty fun to.

Dark knight of the blackened sun. I am Sword Legion, one of many. My mask is thick, and my armor is strong. All the more necessary in a world such as this. . .

ender44 :  This review is really great and well done, nice job. I'm not much of a Xbox person, but I have to say, if I was, I would really try out this game, mostly I have heard about this game and whenever I do play on the 360, I would love to play this game someday.
