Now this game, I just have nothing but good things to say about it... being one of the very first "Run & Gun" type of games to have ever played, it has definitely proven to me to be worth every second that I had spent on it. After only a short few weeks of playing it, before my PSX shredded it (apparently PSXs had a hard time with balancing the discs, which often caused them to spin in a crooked matter and scratch across the insides) I was completely hooked on this game. I had gone from beginning to end without many faults as well as racking up hundreds of kills, it was definitely worth every cent I spent to buy this magnificent game. Graphics- 8/10 Being a game of such a unique formatting structure really captured me into playing this for nearly 7 hours each day, and I often played it multiple times just to see if I could make it any more difficult (this included using my game shark to make it more difficult). The visual effects and detail of this game is simply nostalgic, and somewhat makes you feel as if you are playing a SNES game at times. Often, you will see a more "pixilated" area... but even though many of the areas come off as pixilated, they are indeed detailed and offer a lot to try out as well as a lot to search. You never know what enemies will come around from what corner and you never know what goodies are hidden within the walls or on the floor. Sound- 7/10 The audio to this game is also enhanced to give the gamer a feel that there really is something exploding around you, with the right volume settings as with your eyes glue to the screen... you may even end up jumping from the sudden rush of enemies or the sudden explosions that come out of nowhere. And added onto that, you also get to experience the sounds of the building itself, anything from doors opening electronically to lasers beaming and much more... throughout this entire game, you need to be on your toes otherwise you'll get cornered and shot down within seconds. Addictiveness- 5/10 The reason why this part is lowered down to only HALF addictive is mostly because once you beat the game, that's pretty much it... there's no kind of "free play" and then after you have gone through the game; you pretty much know your way around the place, and the difficulty doesn't really change. They only way to play this game is to start at the lowest difficulty settings, then continue to raise it up by one until its at max difficulty, then you have yourself a real challenge and you never know when you're going to get jumped. It's also best played with a friend on the same screen, that way you can point out any threats one another. Story- 6/10 Because I am not much of a story person, but I did pay a little attention to this one... as far as I can figure, you're trying to stop some sort of extraterresterial army or something from destroying the Earth or you're actually being trained to become of the most elite mercenaries in the world. Whatever be the situation, this game is definitely a thrill to just walk around and kill everything in your path... but be careful, ammo is generally limited and you may run short if you miss too many shots. Depth- 7/10 With a total of 4 main characters to choose from, each having their own unique abilities as well as different experiences for each character... the odds can vary from good to bad, and you may end up getting killed over and over again with the wrong character. Some characters are best for different parts of the situation, some are faster... others are more damage resistant, and some do more damage. Adding that onto the extensive selection of weaponry (anything from Rail Guns to Rocket Launchers) really gives you a nice selection to share a can of whoop-*** with the entire base that you are in. Difficulty- 6/10 This tends to vary with each area as well as with what weapons you have and what character you are using, but overall... this game is nonetheless, difficult in short standards. Because of the high number of enemies, their almost perfect accuracy and how much damage they do naturally... the odds are always against you, and the enemies will slowly try to surrounded you until you are getting shot from all sides. Be careful where you stand, what you have, and what you are up against... because running away, will not save. And if I am correct, the only way to get more health (and to heal yourself) is to kill the enemies, otherwise... you will continue to lose health. You make me enticed to give this game a try, I'll keep an eye out for it! Nicely detailed review, and the layout made it really easy to read. There's only one thing I have to ask: Is this a third person game, or side-scroller (nodded at the SNES comment you made)? |
