Asteroids... is back!

Well... actually, it's not really back... but they did rebuild it for the PSX!

Graphics- 8/10
Now, this game has managed to go through some AMAZING changes, and one of the biggest changes is that it had finally crossed into having much more "detail" and "excitement" than before. What I mean by this, is that instead of just seeing a ship crash and break apart because it was nothing more than just a triangle that could shoot, you finally got all sorts of ships varying from all shapes and sizes and even then... they didn't just "break apart". Now, they actually exploded upon impact... and even the explosion themselves could trigger a massive fireball of exploding death across your screen, causing the game to become even more of a challenge than you imagined before. Instead of just a quick smack into an asteroid and then exploding up, you now had special shields that automatically protected you and you even have all kinds of different asteroids and problems to worry about besides just the standard asteroid. Now, you finally have actual enemies to deal with... you have different challenges to complete, and you have one of the best games made on the PSX... Asteroids! (Also, there are some really unique upgrades and creatures lurking around... so play to see)

Sound- 8/10
Much like the graphics, everything has changed from being the original arcade version or even the original NES and SNES versions (I think Asteroids was on the NES... not sure, but anyways). The very first asteroids game was far too simple, it was nothing more than an outline of shapes that broke into other shapes, it had no color at all and it was rather "dull" in most cases. But now, because technology has prevailed and the beautiful company of SCEA (Sony Computer Entertainment America) has added more to the PSX than we thought we would get, we finally have an outstanding rebuild and remodeling of an original classic. Now, I'm not saying the classic was horrible... it was pretty fun when you were living in that time, and was even more amusing with someone else playing side-by-side with you, but this game right here... this beautiful remodeling and reconstructed version of Asteroids has proven to be top of the line of entertainment for that type of system. The music soundtrack to this game provided a nice aura of futuristic horror kind of feeling, as well as a nice feeling of complete ambiance at times.

Story- 5/10
I'm going to be completely honest with you, I didn't really pay any attention to the story... in most games, I don't really care for the story... I only care for the experience of playing it. Some games (like Final Fantasy 7, Kingdom Hearts, and others) I actually did pay close attention to and tried to figure out as much of the story as possible, I even got slightly obsessed with a few of these games (mostly Final Fantasy VII... that means 7). But this game, even if you don't know the story... you know full well what you're supposed to do... SURVIVE AS LONG AS POSSIBLE! And to make things worse, your enemies can now ATTACK you if you attack them, and even some enemies will follow you across the screen and chase you down like rabid dog.

Depth- 6/10
Because this game has been remodeled and rebuilt to look much more "detailed" as well as much more "intriguing"... there is not a whole lot you can do, but there is a whole lot you can TRY to do. Like for example, you can play another sport with your friend using your ships to gently shoot asteroids back and forth... heck, you can play PONG on this while playing Asteroids at the same time. You can even spike the Asteroid in the other direction with the right kind of firepower, so you can play sports like Soccer or Race, Volleyball or Football. With enough understanding of this game, you can play at least 6 sports and 2 vehicle based games within this game. When I was younger, my friends and I spent nearly 3 hours playing this non-stop... mostly because we were too busy trying to kill each other by spiking the asteroids all over the place that we all ended up dying because the asteroid went off screen and then slammed into us from the back.

Addictiveness- 7/10
Being a less "competitive" person when it comes to games often has a flaw, I often become less amused with going head to head with other players... but now, even Asteroids has proven to make a major change and now you're trying to SAVE your friend as well as save yourself. You have to watch out for each other, as well as keep an eye on your own ship... heck, even my own mom was pretty good at this that we made it through the first 3 areas before finally getting nuked. Oh and did I forget to mention that this game has MULTIPLE areas to come through, the first one being one of the most basic if areas... just a bunch of standard asteroids and a few enemies here and there... then as you progress, the number of asteroids increases and the number of enemies increases as well. I mean, in this refreshed version of Asteroids... not only was it challenging, but absolutely a thrill to see what might happen next... and to figure out "what is that thing crawling along the asteroids?"

Difficulty- 7/10
Well, depending on your level of experience with the first Asteroids game... determines somewhat how well you'll do on here. Yet, even then... there are so many changes that have been made to this game that I am not even sure that you would be able to comprehend it. But then again, after playing this game for the first time many years ago, I did notice that even the best of my friends were stumped when it came to the 3rd area and further. It was like total annihilation because none of us were aware of these even more complex and harder to beat enemies.

This is a really great reviews you came up with, very creative with the words and gave it all categories instead of a huge one paragraph mess.
