SuperCrash64 : I've noticed that a lot of people are replying either rage games or just games that they didn't finish. Here is a game I did finish, and still love even though it is by far one of the hardest games ever made. GODHAND. In GODHAND, you play as Gene, who has the power to beat the crap outa people with his godlike right arm. However, even though his right arm is godlike, he has the toughness of a ballerina and this renders your health bar to be about __ big and your enemies to be about ___________ and that's just early in the game. Anyway, aside form dieing in 1-2 hits (Being a brawler, you are bound to be smacked around at some point through the game) you also have to fight some of the cheapest, most infuriating bosses ever created. You got minibosses like the Wrestling Ape and Sensei that just enjoy beating you to a bloody, yet godlike, pulp and then regular bosses such as The Mad Midget Five, Elvis, and DEVILHAND. The greatest part about the games difficulty is that... well.... it's only hard if you aren't good at it. Seriously, this game gives you the tools and abilities to beat the entire game without getting hit even once. You can dodge, sidestep and even back flip. There's even a handy radar to tell you where your enemies are and if they are throwing objects at you from behind. Now you'd figure that this makes the game easy but you are dead wrong. Even on easy you will probably get enough gameovers to render you depressed and have you cry into a pillow. If you try hard.... well......it gets worse. On hard enemies are stuck on lvl-die (As opposed to lvls 1-3) and get enraged a lot more easily. To top it off, demons kill you in one hit no matter how much health you have.

Now I haven't seen anyone else in this thread talk about a game for this long so my guess is that this game has the most difficulty of the bunch. Still, people were posting rage games, but I don't think difficulty should really be taken into account on those games because they were made to infuriate you with cheap, unforeseeable traps.

Thanks to anyone who took the time to finish reading that. I know it was long but it was definitely explanatory on the difficulty.

I'm going to pick a game that's playable on the site. I would have to say Super Ghouls and Ghosts for SNES. Just playing the game legit can be extremely difficult even if you know where all the hidden chests are. One of those games I don't think I have ever beaten. I only cheat on games after I have beaten them, and they are starting to lose their appeal. This game keeps me coming back for more, even though I have such a hard time with it.

The hardest game I have ever played was battle toads on the NES. To make it worse, my brother and I always played together. Sure, we had good times killing each other, but when we actually tried to play... we would lose SO MANY LIVES on the levels where you have to dodge things on the cars... So many deaths... SO MUCH ANGER!

There are some games that are made to be very hard, some built with a terrible layout of controls to make you slip up. But you can put all of the to a side when you play a Kazio Mario hack.

The worst case of this is the one of Super Mario World. Starting the game is quite hard since everything is Japanese (unless you do actual speak japanese). When you get onto the first level you notice you have to jump a wall of bullet bills which tower up to one black above your jump height. This means you have to bounce off one and since their launch times are almost the same (so much you can not tell). The level and all the others continue with very tricky obstacles and timed jumps. You are pretty screwed if you are not very fast on the save states, also you may need to start again if it comes to it. You can easily miss a crucial enemy to jump on if you spend a little too long on obstacles.

You can actual play it on the Retro Game Room - https://www.vizzed.com/playonlinegames/game.php?id=8016
