Dig Dug is a classic game from Namco first released way back 1982, more then 30 years ago, in arcades around Japan, and it was later brought to the US on Atari 2600. The main objective of the game is to kill all the Pookas and Fygars that are hiding out underground, either by inflating them until they pop, or by having a rock fall on top of them. If you touch a Pooka or a Fygar, or a rock falls on top of you, then you lose a life. If you lose all 3 lifes, you are out, but you can gain extra lifes by getting a certain amount of points.

It is an extremely simple idea, but it makes for an amazing game. The graphics are good for its time, and the sound is great, improving the overall quality of playing the game. The star quality of the game, though, is its addictiveness. You get hooked on trying to beat your top score, and just make it to the one next higher level. You can use a lot of strategy, even for such a simple game, keeping the game interesting and fun, while making it a bit easier to play. You can challenge yourself to do crazy things, like trying to get all of the dirt off the whole level without letting a Pooka or Fygar out, or try to get past Level 50 without using rocks. It keeps the game engaging, and fun to play.

The game is quite simple, and doesn't have much depth, but it still does great. It gives you a level, a few enemies, a few rocks, and lets you do the rest, which makes it fun, even though it is so simple. Once you get the hang of it, it isn't too hard. There is a good learning curve for the game, and it really starts to challenge you as time goes on, while starting out just right for anyone to pick up the controller, and dig away.

All in all, I think Dig Dug is a great game, crafted with good sound and graphics, fun, engaging game play, and a learning curve that is just right for a majority of gamers. Although the game is simple, it creates a wonderful environment for hours of fun time spent playing. Dig Dug really is a timeless classic in video game history.

Decent review although I feel like the spacing could be fixed a little. This just looks like a big block of text.

Also I find that your layout makes this review harder to read.

As far as the game itself goes, I remember playing this as a kid in the arcade, not so much on the Atari.

Dig Dug is a simple formula that winds up making a great game. A classic. Still fun to play after all these years. A real salute to the developers.

Jordanv78 : Thanks for the suggestion. I need to find a good color that goes against green, black, and white well. I should probably tab over the paragraphs one more, and double space in-between paragraphs though. Thanks !
