Virtua Fighter was one of the first games to feature 3D polygon graphics. There were a few others like Virtua Racing, and Hard Driv'in. Those were racing games though. This is a fighting game. Street fighter and Mortal Combat were also fighting games that made the genre popular. What made Virtua Fighter special, was that it had full 3D graphics. It mainly focused on the realism of fighting. Instead of things like fireballs in Street Fighter or death moves in Mortal Combat. For a 3D game released so early when the technology was not as common as it is today. Virtua Fighter has aged remarkably well, along with Virtua Racing.

GAMEPLAY B-: The gameplay is slower then the 2D fighting games back then. It's still fun though. The realism in the fighting is incredible. There's only a few buttons to use, which keeps things simple. The controls however are not quite as responsive as they should be. Another problem I noticed. Was how hard it is to just do a jumping attack. The jumping attacks have that floating feel. Which can get annoying at times. Virtua fighter has solid gameplay with a few rough edges.

GRAPHICS A: I feel unlucky to have been born in a time where gamers are so ungrateful for everything it seems like nothing truly stands out anymore. When this game came out it really blew peoples minds with its smooth 3D polygon graphics. The fighters are smoothly animated and they actually look pretty good. The scenery is not elaborate, but who cares. The simple backgrounds are just enough to give you that feeling of realism. In level 3 I actually felt like I was high up in the sky.

SOUND B+: The music sounds pretty good, I really don't have much to comment on the sound. I noticed that the voice samples are a little muffled but in general the sound is pretty good.

ADDICTIVENESS B+: This game is quite addicting, but it has low replay value. I actually did not want the game to end, but there's no point in playing the game again. There is not even points.

DEPTH A-: For an arcade game, Virtua Fighter has quite a bit to offer. There are 8 characters to choose from, each has a different style of fighting. There are 9 rounds, the last round is where you fight a mysterious metal person called Dural.

DIFFICULTY MEDIUM HARD: This game was quite a challenge. The game starts out pretty easy and then gets quite tough as you go along. There are some cheap hits which can get annoying.

OVERALL RATING B+
