Double Dragon was a famous arcade machine that made the beat um up genre popular. It had many ports some crappier than others. I am about to review the NES version. Hope you enjoy.

GAMEPLAY B: Beating the crap out of things in a video game is always fun. In Double Dragon, the satisfaction in doing this is high. The game has some interesting concepts that are unique. You get experience points for beating up every enemy, and once you reach a 1000 you get a new attack to use on your foes. These range from headbutts to being able to throw an enemy. That's only a couple. As the game progresses, you will notice some platforming elements in the game. Giving it a neat twist. One problem I found in the gameplay was the cheap hits. It seems like you can't attack an enemy without getting your life bar drained.

GRAPHICS C-: This game looks nothing like the arcade original, the characters are small, but they are detailed. The backgrounds have little details in them too. Unfortunately the amount of break up is sickening and there can only be 2 enemies displayed on the screen at a time! The NES could handle more, but the visuals are okay I guess.

SOUND B+: The music is the most advanced the NES has seen, but it is memorable and enjoyable to listen too. I even got it on my computer. The sound effects are not much, but they help make the game more satisfying. I always liked hearing the crunching of an enemy whenever it gets hit.

ADDICTIVENESS B+: This game is very addicting. Not only is it fun to see what happens next, but this game is great for highscore contests. So the game has medium replay value.

DEPTH C-: There are only 4 stages, which is pretty lame. This was an arcade game though. The 4 stages are unique and special in their own way. So the game is not to short, but not long enough to satisfy any gamer.

DIFFICULTY MEDIUM: The difficulty is fair. There are cheap hits. There not so bad though.

OVERALL RATING B

Pokemon Stadium (N64)
Mortal Combat (Genesis)
Virtua Fighter (Arcade)
Qix (NES)
Video Pinball (Atari 2600)
Dig Dug (Atari 5200 & 7800 in that review)
Sonic Spinball (Sega Master System)
Cool Spot (Genesis)
Mega Man (Sega Game Gear)
Super Metroid (SNES)

If you have a game you want me to review, just let me know and I will put it in my upcoming reviews list. I am currently thinking of extra things I can add to my reviews, if you have any ideas on that. Just let me know. I hope you enjoyed.
