This is another case of where I didn't go into much detail in the original review, so I will be editing this ENTIRE review, to get you the facts you need about this game. The legend of Zelda ocarina of time has a lot of controversy about it, although there is some good controversy and some bad controversy. The bad controversy comes from things like the dead hand and the dying soldier. Since I already have an article abou the dead hand and other disturbing things in Zelda games (feel free to check that out) I will talk about the dying soldier. After obtaining the instrument from the title, and before you pull the master sword, if you wander through the back alleys of castle town, you will see a solder slumped on the wall, if you talk to him he will talk about ganondorfs uprising and then yeah...he dies. Right in front of you, in 3D. I don't know about you guys, but that's not something I would want my children to see. Next the good controversy, to be honest, I think this game gets a little too much credit, yes it brought the series into 3D, yes it was a really fun game. But it was not as perfect as everyone says. Lets start the review.
Graphics- Again, this game brought the series into that wonderful third dimension. And by the standards of the N64, this game is beautiful. This game was an N64 game though, and it had some limitations. This brings us to castle town, in the original ocarina of time, quite a but of castle town was cardboard. Maybe you didn't notice it as a kid, but it really annoyed me the second I saw it. The rest of the game looks really good though. It has great looking bosses, enemies, and environments.
Sound- Oh, the music. For this category I will be splitting into 2 parts.
Overhead music- This is the music you hear while in places like kakariko village, hyrule field, or lake hylia. This music is... okay. I think it set the mood pretty well, and it was certainly good to listen too. But I'm not as crazy as everyone else is. Although, I did very much like the opening theme, which you guys should really check out.
Dungeon music- This was music I was more crazy about. I liked the dungeon music very much. And it set the mood very well for each dungeon.
Ocarina music- This is music I loved to no end. Even though the were just a series of short notes. These songs were just fantastic. Songs like the song of time, Zelda's lullaby, and the bolero of fire would probably be my favorites and you should definitely check those out.
Addictiveness- If I still had an N64, I would play this game again and again. It is an insanely fun game with intuitive game play, fun dungeons, and great side quests. This game really never gets old (that was literal although it could also be a pun about the fact that this game gets a remake about every 10 seconds)
Story- oh boy, I couldn't wait to talk about this part. This game has one of the best stories of all the Zelda games. This story has so many twists and action and surprises that you literally wont be able to put it down. This game also contains no "Triforce shard times" as I like to call them. These Triforce shard moments are times when you are given something extremely hard to do that isn't really important to the story, and the name comes from collecting the triforce shards in wind waker. This game follows link, a boy who sets out on a quest to stop the evil ganondorf, the gerudo king of thieves. Though after link unwittingly opens the sacred realm, ganondorf seizes power, and then link must stop him.
Depth- There is so much to do in this game. There are plenty of heart pieces. Tons of dungeons. Plenty of side quests to do and much, much more.
Difficulty- This game was really hard. The dungeons were very complicated. The heart pieces hard to collect, and the side quests very difficult. Next we have the water temple, this temple drove me crazy as a kid, it has over 80 rooms of incredibly complicated puzzles.
Game play- This game brought the series into 3D, and as such uses a targeting system which allows you to keep track of your enemy and feel like a ninja as you jump around and fight.
Okay guys, that's all for this redo review and I will see you next time.
