While I love Led Zeppelin, Rush, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, AC/DC, Steppenwolf, Wishbone Ash, Atomic Rooster, King Crimson, Wolfmother, Thin Lizzy, Hawkwind, Stray, Dream Theatre, Focus, Muse, Journey, Soundgarden, Blue Oyster Cult, Van Halen, Foreigner, Cream, Pearl Jam, Mountain, Audioslave, Pat Benetar, The Raconteurs, Heart and many more, I wouldn't consider any of them as heavy metal, more like heavy rock

Then there are different genres and sub-genres of heavy metal such as Thrash Metal, Death Metal, Glam Metal, Black Metal, N.W.O.B.H.M. Deathcore, Prog Metal, Death Grind, Doom Metal, Speed Metal, Industrial Metal, Nu Metal and others

Of those I like Iron Maiden, Metallica, Slayer, Angelwitch, Megadeth, A Perfect Circle, Praying Mantis, Pantera, Dredg, Arch Enemy, Motorhead, Whitesnake, Helmet, Tygers Of Pan Tang, Wrathchild, System Of A Down, Faith No More, Iron Butterfly, Queensryche, Cradle Of Filth, Trivium, M.S.G. Venom, In Flames, Rainbow, Opeth, Children Of Bodom, Alice, Cooper, The Deftones, Slipknot, Y & T, Porcupine Tree, Exodus, Metal Church, Kiss, Riot, Judas Priest, Mudvayne, Krokus, The Scorpions, Dio, Isis, Hanoi Rocks, Nine Inch Nails,  Girlschool, U.F.O. Korn, Diamond, Head, Rage Against The Machine, Def Leppard, Guns 'N' Roses, Motley Crue, Accept, Kiss, Aerosmith, Tool, Anthrax, Elf, Rammstein, Gillan, Marilyn Mason, Saxon, and many more

So I find it very difficult to pick just one with such a wide choice

I really love Metallica, Dio, SOAD and Iron Maiden. Also the heavy stuff like Heaven Shall Burn, Killswitch Engage and Parkway Drive to name a few, but my heart belongs to a not so typical metal band: Dream Theater.

I stopped liking metal when I was on ninth grade but still, Iron Maiden ofcource!

I'm not a teen anymore so it's hard to pick one out of the bunch.
I've Been jamming to metal Since the 1990's. (Some of the 80's too, but honestly the 1990's marks the start of my taste-buds developing, and metal was the sound that felt right.)
I could bring up Names Like Ozzy,Matalica, Pantera, Five Finger Death Punch and so fourth and so fourth. But the list would be too long.
Forget about it.
Hold up the "Metal Fingers" and Rock on Mates.

There's only one I like that's metallica

I don't listen to much metal, compared to other genres of rock, but when I do, it's usually bands like Guns N Roses, Iron Maiden, or more recently, Slayer. Other times, it's just random songs from various bands on a radio station, Nya~.

I'm a huge fan of power and progressive metal. My favorite bands are Stratovarius, Sonata Arctica, Edguy, Gamma Ray, and Avantasia.

Probably Sonata Arctica. It is a power metal band, but also has some heavy/death metal songs, plus a lot of their songs have deep meanings.

Oh so many to choose from.. xD and the genres in metal alone are so vast and different. o.O But I'll give this a shot and try and name a few from different types of metal. I'll start with the classics: Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, Dio, Judas Priest, (old) Metallica, Motley Crue, Van Halen,  Megadeth, Motorhead. Progressive: Dream Theater, Ayreon, Queensryche, Opeth. Symphonic: Nightwish, Within Temptation. Other mentions: Otep, Eths, Testament, Obituary, The Gathering (although they might be more prog/goth Rock)

DEATH (BEST EVER) slayer, kreator, warbringer, lich king, Children of bodom, dragonforce, cannibal corpse, and sodom

I am glad to see that this thread hasn't turned into a "that's not metal, that's *insert [sub]genre*... this IS metal *insert band here*!!"

I listen to a wide variety of metal/extreme subgenres. It can vary from industrial all the way to death. I listen to stuff that had been branded nu-metal, and I listen to stuff that isn't even branded metal at all... yet still embraced by most metalheads - i.e. Tool.

With that, I won't bother listing all of the things I listen to. Too many to list and too broad of a spectrum. I will say that the Defones are my favorite band, followed closely by Nine Inch Nails. I have followed/been a fan of both musical projects for almost 2 decades now.

My favorite metal band would have to be SikTh, just because of how unique their music was. It was a crying shame when they broke up.

Mudvayne, Megadeth, Slayer, Lamb Of God, Slipknot, and Chimaira. 

I'm more into the older stuff (before 1995). Metallica, Iron Maiden, some Mega Death. However, I don't care for death metal (or, as I call it, screaming)

My favorite band is Nightwish, but not the current lineup, only the original, I mean Tuomas, Emppu, Jukka, Tarja and Sami.


Other bands that I listen are Cadaveria, Draconian, Moonspell, HammerFall, King Diamond, Diablo Swing Orchestra, Tristania, The Sins Of Thy Beloved and a few more.

I cannot get enough Dream Theater, personally. They are a perfect medium between heavy and melodic. Other metal bands that I like are Metallica (which was the first one I listened to), Dio, Megadeth, Ozzy Osborne, Slipknot, and Avenged Sevenfold.
