You can't say that it's not possible.
I mean, look at Conkers Bad Fur Day!
It started out as an innocent kids game (Conkers Pocket Tales), then all of a sudden was strictly an adults-only game. (It even said it on the cover.)
Now, I'm not saying they should make a Rated-M Mario, I'm just saying that I think they might make a darker game.
Something like Majora's Mask.
Now tell me that game wasn't dark. Especially for a Nintendo game!
I don't know, the question just popped up in my head.
What does everybody else think?

An official dark Mario game would probably never ever happen, since it would only appeal to hardcore gamers and tarnish Mario's reputation forever. Nintendo wouldn't want that, especially considering the "family friendly" route it has been taking recently.

Now, I wouldn't doubt that there could be a fan game like that. Maybe a hack of SMRPG but with different lines and events. Or either way, it's not impossible. It's something that I'd like to see from the fans.

Nah, Mario is already perfect... He doesn't need a darker game. I think that would ruin the franchise and that the fans will be Mad about that... Just look at Bomberman... They made a dark theme game, and fans didn't like it. Also, it was pretty bad.

I don't think they should make a "dark" Mario game, per say, but I think they should take what they did with Mario in SSB, make it a bit more action based, with actual moves, not just jumping on their heads. If they took SMB and made it more like SSB, I think it would be a win in everyone's book.
