Remember those times when you played Super Mario World on a SNES (or recently played it on Vizzed RGR if you are young)? Do you like those times, or prefer those new COD,Uncharted,Assassin's Creed, and other modern games?

The old retro games have been probably the best stuff. It was a simpler time when things didn't have to be "realistic", just fun. Nowadays, that's a top priority. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the modern games/technology quite a bit, but I prefer the retro era.

Personally, I prefer modern. Most games are much less predictable. But, the classics are fun too. Otherwise, I would not be at this site. Really, it is a tie, but the vote goes to modern.

I don't know if I have a real preference. Games are games.

Now games transcend reality, which is great, but the gameplay isn't as fun.

Whereas games back then were fun... but weren't all too realistic.

I guess I prefer retro.

I like new games, but I don't think graphics really matter as much as gameplay, gameplay can can still be fun with new games, but I prefer retro games like ALTTP, Super Mario World (My name makes that obvious) and Earthbound.

A good game is good, regardless of it's date of release.

Conversely, a bad game is bad, regardless of it's date of release.

When it comes to retro versus modern games, I have no preference. If I think a game is good, I'll play it. If not, I'll avoid it. Flashy graphics don't but my affections when it comes to a game, though that doesn't exclude graphics when I consider what games to play. Were I to post a list of my all-time favorite games, one would find just as many older games as they would newer. That said, I must confess a predilection toward older games. Call it nostalgia, if you will. Sometimes, I just like to take that little trip down memory lane.

I loved the retro games in SNES and PS1. The RPG games back then were epic! It would take months to complete one of those games! Now you spend like 2 days on a game and you pay more for it! It's a real shame that it's hard to have good games like the old days.

Developers need to get back to story line, characters, and game play. They are too focused on graphics... Blah!

I prefer Retro, gameplay and story was way better. many good games, but also a bunch of bad ones.
and you actually had to use your brain to think about what you need to do

it seems like modern games are made for people that can barely think for themselves, yet make simple actions. close to being lobotomized
ya know graphics aren't everything, but it's what the kids like nowadays and well kids are the future(which I have little hope for)

I was born in 1994 but I didn't start out playing retro games .
I started to play modern games first . So I would have to say
modern games . I know retro games are better and made what
video games are today but I grew up on modern video games .

I always liked retro games because the gameplay is more fun. I don't care about graphics and realism because it just seems more and more like real life and I do not appreciate that.

It's a difficult question, really.

Even though both eras are "Video Games" in general, there are major differences in them, which time takes the credit for. Example, yes the NES was fun, but I loved the SNES and N64 more than anything else, which both are right in between (SNES and N64 are still retro respectively, but I'm referring to being in between a timeline where gaming became mainstream after the crash).

What the NES did was introduce the major selling IPs for Nintendo, that most of them still live today as icons. Few would say the NES versions of those IPs are the best because that's where they started. As much as I respect their decision making, I still think it's wrong to think like that. There have been rare occasions where a new IP started out bad/mediocre/not renown enough and eventually end up being a very popular series. That is to say the opposite didn't NEVER occur, but I believe you get the point.

Now, the reason I like the SNES and N64 is because most of these iconic IPs had their best games on those 2 systems. Some may disagree with my choices, but I digress. Super Mario World was, and still is, my favorite 2D Mario platformer while SM64 is my favorite 3D Mario platformer with SMG not too far behind it. Ocarina of Time is just amazing (no Zelda debates please, I seen enough to know how horrible they turn out to be) while Majora's Mask was very good; not AS good, but still fun to play.

Then there are other games like Goldeneye, the iconic FPS of its era and SMW2: Yoshi's Island, where I spent hours on end playing trying to get 100% on every level. A link to the past was also another very fun Zelda game. It was the first Zelda game I actually beat and then Zelda for NES right after, THEN OoT.

IDK, I just felt gameplay and controls during the SNES/N64 stages were one of the best and that the other consoles, in comparison, aren't as good. Granted they still hold very fun games with nice gameplay, but the two just take the cake for me, IMHO.

I'm all for playing a brand new game on my PS3 or whatever, but I grew up on the retro games, this is why I'm constantly looking for new hacks, and when I find them I add them to the RGR.

I'd much rather play a brand new "retro" game than a 3D modern one.

I voted retro, but I also like modern a lot, they have better story's( most of them anyway) and with graphics it is easier to be immersed, like Assassin's Creed 2, or Red Dead Redemption. But retro games are just plain fun to play, and where more creative.

I sorta like modern better. There's just so much new stuff, its sometimes hard to go back to retro. I am growing up with modern, not to mention. So I wasn't around when retro games weren't retro yet.

There are some great modern games, but I find it sad that for modern games so much time and effort is being put into graphics that people forgot the main reason to play video games: having fun. I realize better graphics can immerse you into an experience more but not every game needs mind blowing graphics and average gameplay. There are so many retro games that have amazing gameplay and really try new things, which you don't see a lot of today. There are new things happening in games, but it is mostly riffing on an already done genre. Open world, shooter..both are probably the top two most popular genres and both are great but recently nothing insanely great has been achieved. Retro games I feel myself having more fun playing..that's just me. I will admit that stories have been better than retro games recently. I don't know, I guess classic games will always be my favorite. But I do think that gaming is an ever expanding place, and continues to be great. But overall I choose classic games.
