Sonic Adventure is often described as one of the best Segways in gaming, along with Ocarina of Time and Super Mario 64. For 1998/99, this game probably had the best graphics of any game ever. The sound kicked ass along with a unique style of game play, as you see, Sonic games are normally Platformers but Sonic Adventure is entirely different: Read the review to find out why!
Let's start off with the
Graphics of Sonic Adventure.
Sonic Adventure must've been the best looking game of all time when it launched in 1998. It completely out mastered anything the PlayStation or Nintendo 64 could do, even a game like Majora's Mask couldn't beat this in terms of graphics. The animations are very hit or miss, especially the mouth movements, but the game set the standard for future DC games, including the MUCH better looking Sonic Adventure 2.Each of the environment's and HUB Worlds (I'll get to them) have a really good atmosphere around them and none of them really look the same.
Sonic Adventure's
Sound was ear melting.
Honestly you only have to look at the song
Open Your Heart by Crush 40 (Who debuted in this game, so extra points go towards that!!!) to prove that Sonic Adventure has a kick ass soundtrack. Along with great level songs like
Azure Blue World....for Emerald Coast, Windy and Ripply.....for Emerald Coast and, of course, going up and down and all around with the song
Run through the Speed highway....for Speed Highway are all major standouts in my opinion. What brings down a few points is the Voice Acting. You can't help but cringe or laugh at some of the lines in this game. It's not as bad as Sonic '06 but still, it's not very good.
Was Sonic Adventure
Addictive?
I Wasn't a big fan of the HUB Worlds (or Adventure Stages as the game calls them). I mean, they were very varied and large enough but they just felt really bland in my opinion. The actual platforming segments I could replay over and over again trying to beat my High Scores and times and it really kept me playing the Dreamcast longer than I thought I Would play. It's a really addicting experience and the story isn't that bad!
Speaking of the
Story....
Well to be fair the story wasn't that bad, I mean sure it's laughable at some points but in all fairness, this is the only Sonic game that's tried to go dark and it actually worked. Without spoiling too much; EGGMAN/ROBOTNIK IS TAKING OVER THE WORLD USING SOME GIANT BLOB OF WATER AND SONIC WANT;S TO STOP HIM. I say that sums it up without revealing too much.
Was Sonic Adventure a
difficult game?
Not really. Sure, some of Amy and Big's stages were kinda hard but overall it's not that bad. If a game has a pretty easy final boss, I think it's safe to say the rest of the game is extremely easy.
Overall?
Sonic Adventure is a must own for DC Owners. YOU MUST GET THIS GAME!!!!!!
